
178 5G stations in Buraimi, up from 28 in 2020: TRA
Buraimi – All schools in the Governorate of Buraimi are now connected to high-speed Internet, according to the latest services report of Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).
The authority confirmed that 100% of schools in the governorate are now covered – 15 schools via fiber optics and 16 via 5G technology.
In the residential sector, 85% of homes are now covered by fixed broadband services via 5G and 71% through fiber optics, while 53 villages are served via satellite technology.
The figures were released during a visit of Omar bin Hamdan al Ismaili, CEO of TRA, who reviewed the governorate's telecom service needs.
A TRA official noted a sharp rise in the number of 5G stations in Buraimi – from 28 in 2020 to 178 in 2024 marking an increase of nearly 500%. The number of 4G stations also rose significantly – from 143 in 2020 to 310 in 2024 – an increase of 117%.
In 2024, the authority carried out 32 projects in the governorate, including installation of 25 new telecom towers, expansion of fiber optic network and upgrading six stations to support 5G services.

Top performing service providers get awards
Muscat Governorate, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, honoured the best public service providers in Muscat Governorate for 2024. This initiative aims to encourage ministries and public authorities to excel in providing the best services to the people. The event was held under the auspices of Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality. Eight public service providers were recognised for reaching the highest levels of excellence in delivering government services in Muscat Governorate. This event is part of an effort to strengthen the institutional excellence system and motivate entities to improve performance efficiency and the quality of government services. The winners included the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the National Museum, Al Amal Club - the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Education, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and the Consumer Protection Authority. The selection process was based on a comprehensive evaluation that considered performance indicators, operational efficiency and beneficiary satisfaction surveys. Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, expressed that this recognition acknowledges the sincere efforts and commitment of the institutions to provide excellent services to citizens and residents.
