178 5G stations in Buraimi, up from 28 in 2020: TRA

Buraimi – All schools in the Governorate of Buraimi are now connected to high-speed Internet, according to the latest services report of Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).
The authority confirmed that 100% of schools in the governorate are now covered – 15 schools via fiber optics and 16 via 5G technology.
In the residential sector, 85% of homes are now covered by fixed broadband services via 5G and 71% through fiber optics, while 53 villages are served via satellite technology.
The figures were released during a visit of Omar bin Hamdan al Ismaili, CEO of TRA, who reviewed the governorate's telecom service needs.
A TRA official noted a sharp rise in the number of 5G stations in Buraimi – from 28 in 2020 to 178 in 2024 marking an increase of nearly 500%. The number of 4G stations also rose significantly – from 143 in 2020 to 310 in 2024 – an increase of 117%.
In 2024, the authority carried out 32 projects in the governorate, including installation of 25 new telecom towers, expansion of fiber optic network and upgrading six stations to support 5G services.

MUSCAT: The National Competitiveness Office has released the third annual report on Oman Competitiveness 2024, highlighting the Oman's performance in various global indicators. The report reveals that Oman has achieved remarkable progress in several global indices. Among the most notable advancements is the Network Readiness Index, where Oman moved up four positions, ranking 50th globally. The country excels in sub-indicators such as government promotion of investment in emerging technologies (ranked 9th globally), gender gap in Internet usage (ranked 11th globally), and ICT skills in education (ranked 23rd globally). According to the Future Growth Index, Oman scored 50.59 out of 100, surpassing the global average. Furthermore, Oman ranked first globally in sub-indicators such as ICT capital (in US dollars) and electricity access in rural areas. The country recorded 70.2 out of 100 in the Rule of Law Index, 66.5 in Regulatory Quality, and 62.2 in Government Effectiveness. Dr Salim bin Abdullah al Shaikh, spokesperson for the Ministry of Economy, emphasised that the National Competitiveness Office continues to monitor Oman's position in key international rankings. He noted that these indicators receive global attention from thousands of individuals and organisations. Speaking to Oman News Agency, Dr Al Sheikh stated: "The office is actively working with national teams to strengthen Oman's position in global indices through various programmes and initiatives while addressing challenges that may arise." Oman's continued efforts in improving competitiveness reflect its commitment to achieving sustainable economic and developmental progress on a global scale. The report aims to increase awareness among the local community about international rankings, serving as a reference for government and private institutions, as well as researchers interested in Oman's positioning compared to other nations. The project utilises cost savings from a deferred royalty rate increase to upgrade connections for several telecom towers, improving stability and performance. TRA completes first phase of initiative to improve telecom services at Comprehensive Service Areas
Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has completed the first phase of a joint national initiative between the government, the TRA and licensees to improve telecommunications services offered at underdeveloped geographic locations known as Comprehensive Service Areas . The initiative seeks to enhance the quality of services provided to beneficiaries in areas facing infrastructure and coverage challenges. The initiative focuses on utilising the savings made from the postponement of hikes on royalty rates that are typically charged upon the conversion of connections of telecommunication station from 'satellite technology' to 'fibre optics'. This procedure will enhance the performance of telecommunication towers and achieve a more reliable and stable user experience. The initiative opens up vistas for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to implement businesses and provide services in Comprehensive Service Areas, including telecom services, maintenance and project management. The initiative will also enable SMEs to offer direct and indirect employment opportunities through the implementation of related projects.
