'We are very fortunate': Hornell McDonald's back in business after contractor plugs leaks

Yahoo18-02-2025

Loyal McDonald's customers in the Hornell area did not have to wait long for the return of Big Macs, Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, Egg McMuffins and hot apple pie.
The same goes for the roughly four dozen Hornell McDonald's workers, who were returning to their jobs Tuesday after the 950 state Route 36 store was forced to close Sunday morning when the restaurant's ceiling sprung multiple leaks.
The closure turned out to last only 48 hours.
While there was some worry that the leaks would keep the restaurant closed for an extended period of time, Rochester-based Leo J. Ross Corporation sent a crew to Hornell on Monday to repair the roof, according to the City of Hornell Codes Office.
The roofing crew was able to complete the job in one day and the Hornell Codes gave the all clear after inspecting the work.
The McDonald's lobby was warm and dry Tuesday morning as Hornell codes official Larry Bacon removed the no occupancy sign on the front entrance at about 8 a.m. Store employees then began trickling in.
Hornell McDonald's Supervisor Tina Peaty said the focus was on the safety of McDonald's employees and customers throughout the entire situation.
Peaty said she's grateful the problems were identified and remedied so quickly.
"We are very fortunate that they came out and worked in this weather," Peaty said.
The Hornell Fire Department responded at 8:05 a.m. Sunday to the restaurant's report of water dripping into the business at several locations. Restaurant workers and employees were evacuated and there were no injuries.
Hornell emergency officials attributed the leaks to the accumulation of snow and ice on the building's roof from the frequent February storm blasts.
Peaty praised Hornell city officials, including codes and the fire department, for working with the restaurant and keeping everyone safe.
"Larry has been wonderful assisting us," she said of Bacon.

The store employees about 50 people and there are currently openings to fill, Peaty said.
Located at the shopping plaza anchored by Walmart and Wegmans, the Hornell McDonald's lobby is open from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. seven days a week. The drive-thru is open until midnight.

Evri to hire thousands more couriers after deal with DHL

Evri is set to expand its courier network with a recruitment drive for 5,000 new couriers, as the company looks to compete in the business letter market. The Yorkshire-based parcel firm recently announced a collaboration with DHL's UK ecommerce division, creating one of the UK's largest delivery networks. The addition of these new roles will bring Evri's total number of self-employed couriers to 33,000. These positions will be available across the UK, with a focus on areas such as Plymouth, Bury, Hastings, Dover, and Scarborough. Approximately 1,000 of the new jobs will be permanent, while the remainder will be flexible roles designed to accommodate the increased demand during the summer and other peak delivery periods. Couriers who commit to working five or more days a week, including Saturday and Sunday, are also given the chance to opt in to its revamped 'Evri Plus' scheme, which includes paid holiday and automatic enrolment into a pension scheme. Evri, which was previously part of the Hermes parcel group, was bought by US private equity firm Apollo for around £2.7 billion last year. It announced plans last month to merge with rival DHL's UK ecommerce business to create a combined company set to deliver more than one billion parcels and one billion letters each year. The deal means Evri will enter the UK business letter market for the first time, bolstering its competition to Royal Mail. Evri has spent £32 million on improving its customer service offering and has seen an improvement in its ratings over recent years, but has said there is 'more to do' to improve with customers continuing to report delivery issues. Chief executive Martijn de Lange said: 'We know that service, reliability and quality are critical factors for our clients and consumers, and so by expanding our self-employed network further, we remain focused on delivering in each of those areas.' Couriers typically earn about £20.90 an hour on average, according to Evri. Sign in to access your portfolio

Evri to hire 5,000 more couriers after agreeing DHL tie-up

Evri is planning to hire 5,000 couriers in a fresh recruitment drive as the parcel giant takes on rivals after entering the business letter market. The Yorkshire-based firm recently announced it was joining forces with DHL's UK ecommerce arm to form one of the country's biggest delivery firms. It said the new roles would bring its total self-employed courier network to 33,000, its highest number. The roles will be available throughout the UK, with a focus on regions including Plymouth, Bury, Hastings, Dover and Scarborough. About 1,000 of the new jobs will be permanent, while the rest are set to be flexible positions to cater to the typically busy summer months and other peak periods for deliveries. Upcoming Stock Splits This Week (June 9 to June 13)

These are the upcoming stock splits for the week of June 9 to June 13, based on TipRanks' Stock Splits Calendar. A stock split is a corporate maneuver that increases the number of shares outstanding by issuing more shares to existing holders, all while keeping the company's total market value unchanged. This lowers the price per share, often making the stock more affordable and potentially more appealing to retail investors. Confident Investing Starts Here: In contrast, a reverse stock split reduces the number of shares by consolidating them, which raises the price per share without affecting the company's valuation. Companies typically turn to this strategy to meet stock exchange requirements – like Nasdaq's minimum price threshold – and avoid delisting. Whether intended to boost investor interest or maintain compliance with exchange rules, these adjustments often serve as key signals for traders tracking a company's strategic direction. Let's take a look at the upcoming stock splits for the week. Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR) – Nektar Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company developing novel drug candidates. Following stockholder approval on May 23, the company formalized a 1-for-15 reverse stock split. The split takes effect on June 8, with trading on a split‑adjusted basis beginning June 9. Fangdd Network Group (DUO) – China-based Fangdd is a technology-driven real estate platform. The company confirmed a 16-for-1 reverse share consolidation, effective June 9, aimed at boosting its share price and maintaining compliance with listing standards. Bone Biologics (BBLG) – Bone Biologics develops orthobiologic products for spinal fusion procedures. After gaining shareholder approval on May 30, the company filed for a 1-for-6 reverse stock split, which takes effect on June 10. The goal is to elevate its share price back into compliance with Nasdaq's minimum pricing rules and enhance its appeal to institutional investors. Cero Therapeutics Holdings (CERO) – Cero Therapeutics is a biotech firm developing engineered T-cell immunotherapies for cancer. Following shareholder approval in November and board action on December 25, it enacted a 1-for-100 reverse stock split effective on January 8, consolidating every 100 shares into one. The move aimed to boost the stock above $1.00 and secure compliance with Nasdaq's listing standards. Inuvo, Inc. (INUV) – Inuvo specializes in AI-powered marketing technologies and is gearing up for a 1-for-10 reverse stock split on June 10. The move is designed to lift its share price, restore Nasdaq compliance, and strengthen its financial foundation for future growth. O'Reilly Automotive (ORLY) – O'Reilly Automotive is a specialty retailer of automotive aftermarket parts and accessories. On March 13, the company declared a 15-for-1 forward stock split, with the distribution of additional shares set for June 9 and split-adjusted trading beginning June 10. SaverOne 2014 (SVRE) – Israel-based SaverOne develops driver safety systems that block mobile-device distractions in vehicles. The company executed a 1-for-3 reverse ADS split, effective June 11, adjusting its American Depositary Share ratio to strengthen its Nasdaq standing and enhance market appeal. China Natural Resources, Inc. (CHNR) – China Natural Resources is focused on mining exploration in Inner Mongolia and is working toward picking up Zimbabwe's Williams Minerals lithium mine for up to $1.75 billion. The company executed an 8-for-1 reverse stock split effective June 12 to meet Nasdaq's $1 minimum bid price requirement, converting every eight shares into one to boost its per-share value and comply with listing rules
