DMW to Open Migrant Workers Office in Nigeria for 7,000 Filipinos
A delegation led by DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac will visit Nigeria and Liberia until August 19, 2025, to strengthen bilateral labor relations and directly engage with Filipino communities. This mission follows directives from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Secretary Cacdac stressed that while the DMW does not actively promote overseas employment, it prioritizes the protection of OFWs—especially through safe and ethical recruitment, ensuring they are documented and safeguarded.
The planned MWO in Abuja will serve about 6,000 OFWs in Nigeria and 150 in Liberia, providing faster access to legal, medical, financial, and humanitarian assistance via the AKSYON Fund. Services will also extend to seafarers affected by piracy and undocumented OFWs under third-country hiring.
Currently, the DMW's presence in Northern Africa is through its MWO in Rabat, Morocco, which covers several other countries. The Abuja office will expand coverage to an estimated 7,000 Filipinos across West Africa.

Marcos to showcase the Philippines 'as it is' during ASEAN chairmanship in 2026
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced his plan to present the Philippines authentically when it takes the helm of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2026. Marcos emphasized that the country does not need to prove its value to its Southeast Asian neighbors but should simply demonstrate its capabilities. 'I want them to see the Philippines as it is. I'm so proud of the Philippines. It doesn't need — the expression in English is 'gilding the lily.' Pinapaganda mo pa, magandang-maganda na,' he said during part four of the BBM Podcast's third episode. The President expressed confidence that ASEAN member states already recognize the 'beauty of the Philippines,' particularly the Filipino people's hardworking nature and kindness. He also highlighted efforts by his administration to deepen foreign relations with other countries. 'What I really want to show is that the Philippines has now come together. A kind of social pact with each other na magtutulungan na tayo dahil naman tama naman ang tinutunguhan natin. And that's the most important thing,' Marcos said. In his message for the ASEAN's 58th founding anniversary, Marcos pledged to build upon the regional bloc's legacy by addressing evolving priorities and emerging challenges as the Philippines prepares to assume the chairmanship next year.

PBBM Urges Filipinos to Use eGovPH App, Says It's as Simple as Facebook
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has encouraged more Filipinos to use the eGovPH app, assuring that it is as easy to navigate as popular social media platforms like Facebook. In Episode 3 of the BBM Podcast aired Thursday, Marcos said he had instructed developers to make the app simple enough for non-tech-savvy users to complete government transactions conveniently. Citing a government study estimating that 89 million Filipinos use Facebook, the President emphasized that the same skills can be applied to using eGovPH. The app consolidates multiple government services into a single mobile platform, in line with the administration's push for improved public service delivery and digitalization. Marcos said the goal is to reduce physical visits to government offices, even for older citizens or those unfamiliar with computers. He added that expanding online transactions is vital for the Philippines to compete globally and conduct business efficiently. 'It's absolutely imperative now that children know how to use a computer, the internet, and to work online. It's not an option anymore,' the President said.

OFW Serbisyo Caravan Brings Government Help to Jeddah
The Bagong Pilipinas whole-of-government team successfully delivered essential and timely services to over 500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East during the first day of the 'Bagong Bayani ng Mundo: OFW Serbisyo Caravan' held at Ladunna Hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on August 8, 2025. Led by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Assistant Secretary for Reintegration Atty. Francis Ron C. De Guzman, the event gathered multiple government agencies—including OWWA, PAO, DSWD, SSS, PSA, LandBank, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG Fund—to provide a one-stop shop of assistance. To ensure smooth operations, the DMW-Migrant Workers Office in Jeddah used QR code pre-registration, distributed participant checklists, organized event space by sections, and enlisted OFW volunteers as guides. A total of 525 OFWs availed services on the first day, with more expected on the second day. De Guzman emphasized that the caravan is part of the DMW's commitment to consistently serve OFWs, saying, 'Kami po ay palagiang babalik… laging nakabukas ang mga opisina para patuloy na makapagserbisyo.' The OFW Serbisyo Caravan, a flagship DMW program, offers services such as membership registration, renewal of documents, legal aid, financial and psychosocial support, and reintegration assistance.
