We hit 28 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now
No. 28
Who's wearing it now: RB Sincere McCormick
The former undrafted free agent out of UT San Antonio spent the last two years with the Raiders, but finally got signed to the active roster. After two games elevated from the practice squad, he was signed on December 3 to the roster. In those three games, he ran for 175 yards averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Then he went down with injury and missed the final three games of the season. Now he's back in the mix trying to earn a spot on this team behind starter Ashton Jeanty and veteran Raheem Mostert.
Who wore it best: RB Josh Jacobs
Last season the Raiders had the worst rushing team in the league. But a few years ago they had the league's rushing champ. Jacobs ran for a league-leading 1653 yards with 12 touchdowns and added another 400 yards receiving to surpass 2000 yards from scrimmage. Becoming just the third ever Raiders back to lead the league in rushing along with Marcus Allen (1985) and Clem Daniels (1963). And his season rushing total is second only to Allen's (1759). Jacobs's 4740 career Raiders rushing yards is fifth in franchise history. His 40 career rushing touchdowns is third.

Raiders rookie OT Charles Grant isn't ready and that's okay
The Las Vegas Raiders selected offensive tackle Charles Grant with the No. 99 overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft. A small-school product out of William & Mary, Grant is an athletic specimen who needs to continue refining his game. That much was evident during the Raiders' Week 1 preseason tie with the Seattle Seahawks. Grant played a hefty 43 snaps against the Seahawks. The former Tribe standout looked ill-equipped to be playing professional football at this time. Even The Athletic NFL analyst Ted Nguyen noticed how raw Grant looked in his official NFL debut. Grant allowed four total quarterback pressures (three hurries, one hit), according to Pro Football Focus. He was assigned a lackluster pass-blocking grade of 40.7. Grant was also whistled for one penalty, and struggled as a run blocker too. The Raiders drafted Grant as a depth player and potential future solution at offensive tackle. He'll be a reserve throughout his rookie season behind starters Kolton Miller and DJ Glaze. With Miller recently signing an extension, the LT spot isn't changing hands anytime soon. The Raiders knew Grant was raw when they drafted him. His preseason Week 1 debut confirmed the obvious. The Raiders will continue trying to develop Grant behind the scenes.

Efton Chism continues strong push to make Patriots roster
Efton Chism is making a strong push for a spot on the Patriots' 53-man roster out of training camp. After an impressive preseason debut Friday night for New England, the undrafted rookie made a jaw-dropping catch in Sunday's practice. Chism led all Patriots receivers in Friday night's 48-18 preseason win over the Washington Commanders with six receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. He recorded three first downs for New England, and showed off his elusiveness when he shed a tackle after bringing in a crosser from Ben Wooldridge before scampering in for a 12-yard touchdown reception. Chism followed his big game inside Gillette Stadium on Friday night by making the "Catch of the Day" in practice behind the stadium on Sunday. Chism showed off his ups as he made a leaping touchdown snag in the back corner of the end zone over slot corner Marcus Jones. He had to box out Jones to bring in Josh Dobbs' pass, as Chism caught the ball at its highest point and brought it down for the biggest play of Sunday's practice. In addition to being a speedy pass-catcher out of the slot, Chism has also been chipping in on special teams, which will really help his push to make the New England roster. He had an 11-yard punt return Friday night, and could share return duties with Jones during the regular season. "Efton is doing everything we're telling him to earn a role on special teams. Whether that's at returner, whether that's at the two on kickoff or at gunner," Patriots special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer said of Chism ahead of Monday's practice. "Know the details, and go earn that roll by playing full speed and make great decisions. He's doing that above and beyond. He's trying to earn a role right now and I'm happy where he's at." Chism, who went undrafted out of Eastern Washington, is among the 11 receivers in a heated roster battle in New England this summer. He's battling with the likes of Ja'Lynn Polk (who was injured Friday), Javon Baker, Kendrick Bourne, Jeremiah Webb, and John Jiles for one or two spots on New England's 53-man roster. If Chrism continues to be productive in practice and in the team's last two preseason games, it will make the roster decision easy for Miek Vrabel and Eliot Wolf come August 26. To many, a decision on Chism should have already been reached. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss -- along with WBZ-TV's Dan Roche -- have been pushing for Chism to make the roster since his impressive spring. With Chism's performance Friday night, Reiss says the team cannot risk exposing him to waivers ahead of the regular season. "He has to be on this team in my opinion," Reiss said during Sunday night's Sports Final on WBZ-TV. "I know people are saying we're getting too excited about a player that is only playing against second- or third-string players. But the short-area quickness, the anticipation, the spatial awareness -- it's a player, to me, it would be too risky to expose him to waivers." Former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria says Chism's consistency sets him apart from the other receivers battling for a spot in New England. "You know exactly what you are getting with him, and that's what coaches want," Fauria said on Sports Final. "Everyone can make the routine catches. At his positions, he needs to go above and beyond. He's showing if they give him a chance, he's not going to make them regret it."

Tom Brady burns Jets fans once more during statue ceremony
Tom Brady had 30 victories in games against the New York Jets throughout his career and had one more zinger for Gang Green as his statue was unveiled outside of Gillette Stadium. The ceremony took place before the New England Patriots opened their preseason slate on Friday night against the Washington Commanders. Brady, widely considered to be the greatest quarterback of all time, won six Super Bowl titles with the Patriots. While he will become a Hall of Famer soon, he will forever be immortalized in bronze outside the Foxborough, Massachusetts, stadium. He said in his speech that the statue wasn't just for Patriots fans. "In the end, this statue isn't just for Pats fans," Brady said. "It will also give all the Jets fans something to throw their beers at as they leave the stadium every year, probably in the second quarter, maybe the third." Brady was 30-7 against the Jets in his career. He had 60 touchdown passes against New York. He only threw more against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins (72). The Jets suffered a ton of torment as Brady led the Patriots. From 2000 to 2019, the Jets made the playoffs six times and reached the AFC Championship twice. New York made the conference title game in back-to-back years (2009 and 2010) but was never able to punch through into the Super Bowl. In the same span, the Patriots made the playoffs 17 times and won the Super Bowl six times. New England even made it back to the postseason under Mac Jones. The Jets haven't been to the playoffs since the 2010 season.
