India's Gen Z is growing up in a world of constant connectivity, but they are drawing their own digital boundaries. According to the findings of the first edition of
ET Snapchat Gen Z Index
, this generation is not just adopting new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR), but is also showing a growing awareness of screen time and digital balance.
The study, powered by Kantar, highlights a contrast in Gen Z's digital life — while they lead in adopting new tools and experiences, they are also building habits to control how much time they spend on screens. This balance between tech enthusiasm and self-regulation defines how India's young users engage with the digital world.
The ET Snapchat Gen Z Index has been mapped to record changes over a 3-month period.

AI and AR use is becoming mainstream
The research shows that a whopping 81% of Gen Z respondents are already using AI or AR in their everyday lives. Whether it's through voice assistants, virtual try-ons, or smart content tools, the line between physical and digital experiences is becoming thinner.
Live Events
This adoption points to a generation that is not only digitally fluent but comfortable integrating new technologies into routine decision-making, entertainment, and learning.
Gen Z is watching their screen time
Even with their strong connection to technology, Gen Z is not losing control of their time. The study notes that 82% of respondents are actively monitoring or limiting their screen time.
This level of awareness reflects a shift toward digital discipline. Rather than treating technology as something to escape into, many Gen Z users are setting personal boundaries — using app timers, break reminders, or self-imposed rules to reduce overload.
They are not rejecting technology but are choosing how and when to engage with it more mindfully.

Social media is still present — but more selective
Gen Z still uses social media regularly, but not in the way earlier generations did. Even though 72% of the repsondents said they were comfortable sharing personal life updates on social platforms, 76% made it clear that they were sharing the updates only with family and close friends.
At the same time, 80% of Gen Z said they use social media to engage with opinions or conversations that interest them. This suggests that Gen Z treats social platforms like spaces for exploration and discussion with targetted personal broadcasting.
Their preference leans toward participating in meaningful, interest-based interactions rather than constantly documenting their lives.
A generation choosing balance
The study presents a picture of a generation that is deeply connected but not consumed. Gen Z is creating a digital lifestyle that reflects awareness, not addiction.
Their willingness to embrace new technology, while also tracking their own usage, shows a maturity that's shaping a new kind of digital identity — one based on intention, not just access.
The ET Snapchat Gen Z Index shows that India's Gen Z is not just tech-savvy, but tech-aware. They are integrating AI, AR, and social tools into daily life — but they are also pulling back when needed.
This digital generation is learning not just how to stay connected, but how to stay in control.

How Gen Z and AI Are Redefining Astrology in India: The Rise of AstroTech

Last Updated: Gen Z and AI are rewriting the future of astrology in India—making it smarter, more personal, and deeply relevant for today's digital generation. In India, where astrology has long guided personal and societal decisions—from marriage to career to investments—a new era is dawning. A powerful convergence of Gen Z's digital fluency and artificial intelligence is reshaping how astrology is experienced, accessed, and understood. What was once viewed as an esoteric, often static tradition is being transformed into an intelligent, interactive, and emotionally resonant service—available at your fingertips. At the heart of this transformation is Gen Z, a generation that grew up with technology, questions norms, and seeks deeper meaning. 'Gen Z is our fastest-growing user base, growing at a staggering 11% month-over-month," shares Punit Pandey, Founder and CIO of AstroSage AI, one of India's leading AstroTech platforms. 'These users aren't looking for generic sun sign horoscopes—they want personalized, empathetic insights that fit into their fast-paced, emotionally complex lives." For Gen Z, astrology is no longer just about prediction; it's about personal narrative. Queries on AstroSage AI are dominated by themes like career uncertainty, mental health, toxic relationships, and spiritual healing—signs of a generation seeking clarity, not clichés. To meet this demand, AstroSage AI has built a powerful backend where AI-driven astrologers analyze celestial data from over a billion birth charts and real-time user behaviour to offer hyper-personalized, conversational insights. 'These aren't cookie-cutter predictions," Pandey explains, 'They're intuitive responses to deeply personal life moments. On any given day, our AI handles over 500,000 user questions—each one tailored to individual astrological patterns and emotional contexts." Indeed, a new crop of young Indian developers is decoding ancient texts, building tools that use machine learning to match birth charts, and crafting interactive readings with generative AI. What once required visits to traditional astrologers and deciphering Sanskrit mantras can now be done through immersive mobile apps, voice assistants, and even AI avatars. Reinventing the Astrological Experience AstroSage AI has embraced this shift by reimagining the interface of astrology. Long-form horoscopes are still available, but Gen Z prefers something more immediate and immersive. 'We've launched AI avatars with distinct personalities like Krishnamurti for KP astrology and Dr. Raman for classical Vedic," Pandey shares. 'Users can choose the voice that best fits their worldview." With support for 11 Indian languages and several international ones like French, Japanese, and Portuguese, the platform is also taking Indian astrology global. Bindra echoes the potential of such innovation, noting, 'AstroTech has the potential to transform a centuries-old tradition into something truly future-facing, combining cultural continuity with technological innovation in a uniquely Indian way." A Tech-Driven Spiritual Future—With Caution But this rapid evolution isn't without its challenges. Bindra cautions: 'AI still has a propensity to hallucinate, and when dealing with sensitive belief systems like astrology, accuracy and trust become paramount." Issues around data quality in Indic languages, ethical AI behavior, and emotional sensitivity are critical to address. AstroSage AI, which has crossed 65 million app downloads and handles over 1 million daily active users, is tackling these concerns head-on. 'Every AI response is reviewed for accuracy and empathy," says Pandey. 'We've built filters, added disclaimers, and offered direct access to human astrologers. Our goal is guidance—not dependence." What's Next: Proactive Astrology and Predictive AI Looking ahead, the future of AstroTech goes beyond reactive consultations. 'Our next leap is proactive, agentic AI—autonomous avatars that track live astronomical data, user patterns, and even social sentiment to offer preemptive guidance—before a question is even asked," Pandey reveals. This signals a shift not just in how astrology is delivered, but in when and why. Imagine a world where your digital astrologer nudges you before a stressful day at work or suggests introspection before a tough conversation. The AstroTech revolution is more than a trend—it's a new paradigm. What once lived in almanacs and temples is now in your pocket, driven by data, shaped by empathy, and inspired by tradition. As Bindra aptly puts it, 'This evolution isn't about replacing belief systems, but about augmenting them… and perhaps, in the process, creating a global blueprint for how ancient systems and modern intelligence can co-evolve." For India and the world, the stars haven't changed. But how we understand them is being rewritten by a new generation, one swipe at a time. 'Today, AI is like an intern that can work for a couple of hours…,' says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

The world is steadily transitioning towards embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI), slowly adopting tools and automation processes in day-to-day lives. While the technology is simplifying business processes and tasks, people are now fearing that AI could replace jobs in future. However, many industry experts also assure that AI will work alongside humans. Now, at the Snowflake Summit 2025, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shares greater insight on how people will start to embrace AI in real time. Reportedly, Altman provided a statement that AI could replace entry-level jobs or interns. However, Gen Z could actually benefit from the technology. This claim also supports the recent Oxford Economics study, which talks about how companies are hiring fewer college graduates in recent times. Know what the OpenAI CEO said more about AI taking human jobs. Also read: Google pauses 'Ask Photos' AI Feature to address performance issues Sam Altman chaired a panel with Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy at the Snowflake Summit 2025, during which he said that AI could perform similar tasks to junior-level employees, eventually replacing the hours of work done by interns. Altman stated, 'Today AI is like an intern that can work for a couple of hours, but at some point it'll be like an experienced software engineer that can work for a couple of days.' He further added that AI could resolve business problems and that 'we start to see agents that can help us discover new knowledge.' Also read: Microsoft launches Xbox Copilot beta on Android app to assist gamers with real-time support While it seems like a very practical prediction, it is not the first time we have heard something like this. As businesses and companies are heavily investing in AI tools, it is not only saving them money on hiring resources, but it is so fast tracking certain tasks which used to take hours with human intelligence. But how is Gen Z vastly embracing AI? At Sequoia Capital's AI Ascent event, Altman highlighted how different generations of people are using AI in the real world. He said, many are using AI as a replacement for Google. However, Gen Z is using AI as an advisor, whereas younger generations are using the technology as an operating system. Therefore, people in their twenties are heavily relying on AI tools like as ChatGPT to perform the majority of tasks. This also showcases a great example of how AI will work alongside humans, but this could also create an imbalance in the job market, especially for people who are just starting new in the job industry.
