Andhra Pradesh government to develop greenfield semi ring road between Rambilli & Bhogapuram near Vizag

Time of India12-05-2025

Visakhapatnam: Aimed at enhancing connectivity across Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram districts, the Andhra Pradesh govt has decided to undertake an access-controlled, greenfield semi ring road project from Rambilli (where a naval alternate operating base is under development) in Anakapalli district to Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district. The
Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority
(VMRDA) has been entrusted with the task of appointing consultancy services to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for this road initiative.
Accordingly, the VMRDA has issued a request for proposal to select a technical consultant for DPR preparation. The proposed route is expected to run west of the existing national highway, starting from Rambilli and passing through Kothavalasa and other regions in Vizianagaram district, ultimately culminating in Bhogapuram, where an international airport is currently under development.
With a six-lane highway already operational between Anakapalli and Anandapuram, this new road is intended to complement existing infrastructure and improve regional transportation efficiency.A ring road project has long been a demand of several people's representatives of the erstwhile combined Visakhapatnam district, given the growing traffic needs. Even though the project does not directly connect to Vizag city, it will provide an alternative route for people living along the stretch from Rambilli to Bhogapuram, alleviating congestion. This will also spur economic development in the region, particularly on the Bhogapuram side of the proposed alignment of the road.Speaking to TOI, VMRDA chairperson Pranav Gopal said that the selected consultant will prepare a DPR outlining key aspects of the project, including estimated costs, financial viability, land requirements, alignment options, route length, and the areas to be covered. "The report will be submitted to the state govt, which will take the final call on the project. The approximate length of the road to be studied is 90 kilometres," he said,"A greenfield alignment may be pursued only if traffic projections indicate a need for future expansion beyond four lanes. If the greenfield option is chosen, the entire right of way will be acquired to accommodate up to an eight-lane main carriageway, including provisions for service roads. Initially, a four-lane carriageway with four-lane structures will be developed, with space reserved in the median for future expansion. Inhabited areas will include service roads with a minimum width of 10 meters, while ensuring maximum access control for the main highway. Access to towns, cities, and establishments along the existing national highway will be provided via spurs from the greenfield route," Pranav Gopal said."First, a feasibility study must be completed. Only after specific instructions from VMRDA, based on the outcome of the study, will the consultancy move forward with DPR preparation," added the VMRDA chairperson. To fund the semi ring road project, a value capture finance (VCF) strategy is likely to be adopted. The VCF model is expected to reduce reliance on traditional government funding and loans, while encourage private sector participation and development along the corridor. This may ultimately support long-term sustainability through a self-financing infrastructure model.

Consumer forum orders refund after Covid-19 disrupts travel plans

In a classic case of vacation plans gone viral, the Ghaziabad Consumer Forum has ruled in favor of Ishan Pratap Singh, a traveler who was forced to cancel a family trip to the Maldives in 2021 after testing positive for Covid-19—just a day before departure, reported TOI. Singh had booked the dream getaway from Mumbai through Ineedtrip , a Ghaziabad-based travel agency, coughing up a hefty Rs 1.9 lakh as an advance (and even taking a Rs 1.4 lakh loan to fund it). But when he tested positive via an RT-PCR on March 12, he requested the agency to reschedule the trip originally planned for March 13–17, as per the TOI report. Though he tried to shuffle the dates—first aiming for May, then April, and finally November 2021—he was met with repeated refusals. The agency cited expiry of certain travel packages and warned of forfeiture by the partner hotel after September. Despite these pandemic-related hurdles and Singh's continued EMI payments for the loan, Ineedtrip refused to refund the money. They also skipped responding to the consumer forum's notices. Unimpressed, forum members Praveen Kumar Jain and RP Singh passed an ex parte order, declaring Ineedtrip's actions a clear 'deficiency in service' under the Consumer Protection Act. Live Events Now, the travel agency must refund the Rs 1.9 lakh within 45 days, plus 6% interest from the date of the order until the amount is paid. To top it off, they've been ordered to shell out Rs 5,000 more for Singh's legal costs and mental agony. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

Rs 4.58 crore siphoned off - over 100 accounts of customers accessed - fixed deposits broken: This is not some movie plot - it's a stunning fraud that a former ICICI Bank relationship manager pulled off! The multi-crore fraud continued for over two years. The accused, Sakshi Gupta, who served at ICICI Bank 's Shriram Nagar branch in Kota's DCM area from 2020 to 2023, was taken into custody by Udhyog Nagar police on May 31, 2025 after a thorough investigation. According to a TOI report, police records indicate that the fraudulent activities were initially discovered on February 18. Following ICICI Bank's internal probe that identified Sakshi Gupta, who previously worked as a relationship manager at the bank's DCM branch in Kota, as the primary suspect in a significant financial fraud affecting customer accounts, the Kota police have begun their enquiry. The authorities are examining potential accomplices and have asked the bank to furnish pertinent documentation. How former ICICI Bank relationship manager committed fraud: 10 Points The investigation revealed that Sakshi Gupta had gained unauthorised access to more than 110 accounts of 41 customers and executed multiple illegal transactions. Investigators found that she had diverted the misappropriated funds into stock market investments, which subsequently resulted in substantial financial losses. In order to hide the deception, Gupta allegedly substituted the registered mobile numbers of various bank accounts with those of her family members. The actual account holders were unable to receive transaction notifications and one-time passwords (OTPs) due to this modification, according to police reports. The investigation revealed multiple fraudulent activities by Gupta, including unauthorised activation of overdraft facilities across 40 accounts.
