Impact on Delhi's borders?
In big relief for lakhs of office-goers and daily travellers, the government has approved the long-pending move to shift Gurgaon's Kherki Daula toll plaza to Pachgaon, beyond Manesar, on the busy Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48). The move will ease traffic congestion and cut costs for those commuting between Delhi and Manesar.According to a report by TOI, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has cleared the plan. To avoid future traffic jams at the new location, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will set up a Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system. In this system, vehicles won't need to stop, cameras will read registration numbers and deduct toll from FASTag wallets directly.Once the toll plaza is moved over 15 km away from Gurgaon, people travelling between Delhi and Manesar won't have to pay any toll at all. Locals have been demanding this change since 2014, arguing that the toll has already recovered more money than what was spent to build the road. In fact, the government told Lok Sabha in March that Rs 2,775 crore had been collected from tolls, which is 11% more than the Rs 2,489 crore spent on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.Sources told TOI that the Haryana government has given around 28 acres of land to the NHAI for the new toll plaza. It will be set up near the Pachgaon interchange, where the Western Peripheral Expressway meets NH-48. The location was chosen to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and to avoid further tolling for those coming from the Dwarka Expressway side and heading towards Jaipur. The MLFF system will bring a big change. Since there will be no physical barrier or stopping point, traffic jams like the ones currently seen at Kherki Daula can be avoided. A source also said that once the annual toll pass for private vehicles is introduced, many current issues will be resolved automatically. The decision fulfils a promise made several times over the past 7–8 years by both Haryana and central governments. Locals near the Kherki Daula toll plaza have long protested, saying toll operators have made enough profit and that the tolling has caused daily inconvenience.TOI also reports that this move could now increase pressure on the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to remove physical toll booths on the capital's borders. These booths often cause major traffic jams, which defeat the purpose of building high-speed expressways for faster travel.Inputs from TOI

RBI Cuts Repo Rate: Major Banks Slash Lending Rates; Know Objective Behind It

RBI Repo Rate Cut: In a bid to boost economic momentum, several major banks have followed the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) lead after it cut the repo rate by 50 basis points. Among them, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of India, and UCO Bank have announced reductions in their lending rates. The RBI's move is aimed at making borrowing easier and more affordable for both individuals and businesses. Wasting no time, Punjab National Bank was quick to respond, bringing down its repo-linked lending rate from 8.85% to 8.35%, setting the tone for others to follow. Bank of India Repo Rate: Bank of India responded to the RBI's repo rate cut by lowering its repo-linked lending rate from 8.85% to 8.35%, as disclosed in a stock exchange filing. However, the bank chose to keep its base rate and marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) unchanged. UCO Bank Reduces MCLR Across All Loan Tenures Taking a slightly different path, UCO Bank opted to reduce its MCLR by 10 basis points across all loan tenures. This move, effective from June 10, aims to ease borrowing costs for various types of loans, including home and personal loans. Specifically, UCO Bank trimmed its overnight MCLR from 8.25% to 8.15%, the one-month rate from 8.45% to 8.35%, and the three-month rate from 8.6% to 8.5%. The six-month and one-year MCLRs were also adjusted to 8.8% and 9%, respectively. Bank of Baroda Repo Rate: Adding to the trend, Bank of Baroda announced a 50 basis point cut in its repo-linked lending rates for select loan tenures. These rate revisions follow the RBI's latest decision—announced by the Monetary Policy Committee led by Governor Sanjay Malhotra—to lower the repo rate, the key policy rate at which the central bank lends to commercial banks. The broader goal: to ease borrowing costs and stimulate economic activity. Objective Behind Cut In Repo Rate The objective behind the rate cut is to energise the economy by encouraging spending and investment through cheaper loans. In addition to the repo rate cut, the RBI also reduced the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by 100 basis points, from 4 per cent to 3 per cent. Repo Rate Reduction In Four Phases This reduction will be rolled out in four phases and is expected to inject Rs 2.5 lakh crore of liquidity into the banking system. The CRR is the portion of bank deposits that must be maintained with the RBI, and lowering it allows banks to lend more. (With Inputs From IANS)

Chhattisgarh high court declines to intervene in tata projects and CHiPS bank guarantee dispute

RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh high court disposed of a writ petition filed by Tata Projects Limited, directing the company to seek remedy before the Commercial Court. The petition concerned the encashment of a performance bank guarantee of Rs 167.46 crore by the Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society (CHiPS), the nodal agency for driving IT growth and implementing IT and e-Governance initiatives in the state. A division bench of Justice Narendra Kumar Vyas and Justice Amitendra Kishore Prasad heard the petition filed by Tata Projects. The company sought restoration of the status quo ante, asking for the return of the Rs 167.46 crore to State Bank of India and the issuance of an identical bank guarantee. Alternatively, Tata Projects requested CHiPS to deposit the amount in an interest-bearing account until the dispute's resolution. According to court records, CHiPS issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the selection of a Master System Integrator (MSI) for the BharatNet Phase-II Project in Chhattisgarh. A dispute arose between Tata Projects and CHiPS during the commercial contract. Previously, Tata Projects filed a writ petition, in which a single bench of the high court on 2 July 2024, granted interim protection, restraining respondents from encashing the performance bank guarantee. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This writ petition was later disposed of on 30 April 2025, with the court re-delegating the parties to approach the Commercial Court. Subsequently, Tata Projects filed an application under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The Commercial Court, on 3 May 2025, ordered an interim status quo regarding the invocation of the bank guarantee. However, after the respondents filed their reply, the Commercial Court disposed of the application on 6 May 2025, vacating the status quo order. The initiation of the bank guarantee encashment process led Tata Projects to approach the highcourt. Senior Counsel Kishore Bhaduri, appearing for Tata Projects, argued that CHiPS's conduct was fraudulent and high-handed, misleading the court and misusing its power by attempting to invoke the bank guarantee. Counsel for the respondents and the state argued that the writ petition was not maintainable, as Tata Projects had remedies available under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, or under the Chhattisgarh Madhyashtham Adhikaran Act, 1983. The high court observed that an arbitration clause existed in the agreement and that Tata Projects already approached the Commercial Court. The court ruled that the writ petition was not maintainable at this juncture. However, it granted Tata Projects the liberty to pursue statutory remedies before the Commercial Court. The court also clarified that the respondents were free to raise objections regarding the maintainability of any application. The high court directed the Commercial Court to consider and decide any interim application or application under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, filed by the petitioner expeditiously and in accordance with the law. The high court also made it clear that it did not express any opinion on the merits of the case, leaving it to the Commercial Court to decide independently.

Ajit Jogi statue uprooted in Gaurela: Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) alleges government shielding culprits, warns of protest

RAIPUR: Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) State President Amit Jogi on Sunday strongly condemned the uprooting of former chief minister Ajit Jogi's statue in Gaurela and accused the state government of shielding the culprits. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He warned of a major agitation if the statue is not reinstalled at Jyotipur Chowk, Gaurela, by 25 June. Addressing a press conference at his Raipur residence on Sunday, the former MLA, Amit Jogi, alleged that the statue of Ajit Jogi, which stood on private land owned by the Jogi family, was uprooted using a hydra machine in the intervening night of 25 and 26 May, and dumped in garbage. He claimed the act was carried out in collusion with local officials and said the culprits were later seen having tea with the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in-charge minister at a guest house, instead of being arrested. 'It has been over two weeks, yet the statue hasn't been reinstated, nor have the accused been apprehended. Everyone sees them, except the police,' Jogi said, calling the incident a 'deliberate insult' to Ajit Jogi and his legacy. He clarified that the statue was legally installed on land privately owned by the Jogi family and not on government property. The land, he said, was part of a property acquired before 1932 by the late Menzies and later transferred through a valid Power of Attorney to Atul Arthur in 2020. In 2021, a No Objection Certificate was issued by the landowners for the installation of a garden and Ajit Jogi's statue. Funds for the statue's platform and garden, amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh, were sanctioned from former MLA Dr Renu Jogi's MLA fund, with Gaurela Municipality appointed as the construction agency. Amit Jogi rejected claims that the statue was removed to install one of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, saying the municipal resolution pertained to Tikar Bypass, not Jyotipur Chowk. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'We support installing both statues, but they must be placed at their rightful locations,' he said. He further accused BJP leaders of engaging in 'statue politics' and urged them to act ethically. 'Ajit Jogi belongs to every Chhattisgarhi. Uprooting his statue is not only illegal and insensitive, but it also reflects a narrow, destructive mindset,' he said. Jogi announced that if the statue is not reinstated at its original spot by 25 June, it would be brought to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's residence in Raipur, demanding its formal unveiling. 'The CM once promised to visit Gaurela for the unveiling. Since he didn't, we'll bring Jogi Ji to his doorstep,' he added. He concluded by forgiving those involved in the act and said copies of a book authored by Ajit Jogi would be sent to them, urging them to 'read Jogi Ji and understand him.' Dr Renu Jogi also condemned the act and appealed for swift justice and reinstallation of the statue.
