RAIPUR: Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) State President Amit Jogi on Sunday strongly condemned the uprooting of former chief minister Ajit Jogi's statue in Gaurela and accused the state government of shielding the culprits.

He warned of a major agitation if the statue is not reinstalled at Jyotipur Chowk, Gaurela, by 25 June.
Addressing a press conference at his Raipur residence on Sunday, the former MLA, Amit Jogi, alleged that the statue of Ajit Jogi, which stood on private land owned by the Jogi family, was uprooted using a hydra machine in the intervening night of 25 and 26 May, and dumped in garbage. He claimed the act was carried out in collusion with local officials and said the culprits were later seen having tea with the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in-charge minister at a guest house, instead of being arrested.
'It has been over two weeks, yet the statue hasn't been reinstated, nor have the accused been apprehended. Everyone sees them, except the police,' Jogi said, calling the incident a 'deliberate insult' to Ajit Jogi and his legacy.
He clarified that the statue was legally installed on land privately owned by the Jogi family and not on government property. The land, he said, was part of a property acquired before 1932 by the late Menzies and later transferred through a valid Power of Attorney to Atul Arthur in 2020.
In 2021, a No Objection Certificate was issued by the landowners for the installation of a garden and Ajit Jogi's statue.
Funds for the statue's platform and garden, amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh, were sanctioned from former MLA Dr Renu Jogi's MLA fund, with Gaurela Municipality appointed as the construction agency.
Amit Jogi rejected claims that the statue was removed to install one of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, saying the municipal resolution pertained to Tikar Bypass, not Jyotipur Chowk.

'We support installing both statues, but they must be placed at their rightful locations,' he said.
He further accused BJP leaders of engaging in 'statue politics' and urged them to act ethically. 'Ajit Jogi belongs to every Chhattisgarhi. Uprooting his statue is not only illegal and insensitive, but it also reflects a narrow, destructive mindset,' he said.
Jogi announced that if the statue is not reinstated at its original spot by 25 June, it would be brought to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's residence in Raipur, demanding its formal unveiling.
'The CM once promised to visit Gaurela for the unveiling. Since he didn't, we'll bring Jogi Ji to his doorstep,' he added.
He concluded by forgiving those involved in the act and said copies of a book authored by Ajit Jogi would be sent to them, urging them to 'read Jogi Ji and understand him.' Dr Renu Jogi also condemned the act and appealed for swift justice and reinstallation of the statue.

BJP demands special assembly session over Bengaluru stampede, seeks ₹1 cr relief for victims' kin

Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka on Sunday demanded that the government call a special session of the state legislature for three days, to discuss the June 4 stampede that killed 11 people, as he pointed out that people are seeking answers. The BJP leader, who reiterating the demand for resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, also announced that all his party legislators will contribute a month's salary to the kin of those deceased, who are in need, while urging the government to enhance the compensation to ₹1 crore if it is not bankrupt. Also Read | Sunil Gavaskar's bold perspective on tragic Bengaluru stampede: 'If RCB had won in first few years, there would…' The stampede occurred on June 4 evening in front of the Chinnaswamy stadium here, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's IPL victory celebrations. Eleven people died and 56 were injured in the incident. "People of the state are raising questions: who was at fault? So, call a special session of the legislature, let there be a discussion as to who was at fault, all the violations or flouting of laws need to be discussed, whether it was by police permission, DAPR, all of this should be discussed," Ashoka said. Speaking to reporters here, he said, let there also be discussion regarding providing compensation and all about the three inquiries that have been ordered -- magisterial enquiry (to be done by Deputy Commissioner), CID probe, and one-man inquiry commission under retired High Court judge John Michael D'Cunha. Also Read | 'Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar are the main culprits': BJP protests at Vidhana Soudha over Bengaluru stampede tragedy "All inquiries are being given to Cunha, he is had sought for an inquiry headed by a sitting judge of the High Court, we will continue to demand for it. Three days special session has to be called immediately. Leader of Opposition in Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and I will write a letter in this regard to the Assembly Speaker, Council Chairman and Chief Minister," he added. Pointing out that the government has announced compensation of ₹25 lakh to the kin of the deceased after criticism, Ashoka said, his party demands compensation of ₹1 crore each if the government is not bankrupt. A team of BJP leaders will visit the families of the deceased and try to console them, he added. Citing DCP Vidhana Soudha letter to the Secretary to the government on June 4, Ashoka hit out at the Siddaramaiah administration, and said the government did not consider what the police had said, and disregarded the conditions laid out by them to organise the victory celebrations. The DCP's letter clearly states that as the celebration event is being organised on the grand stairs of the Vidhana Soudha in a "hurry", he said, it warns that lakhs of people may gather, about the shortage of security staff, and that there will be a problem in providing bandobast. The officer further stated that, even if the event has to be held, the issuing of online or offline passes for visitors to Vidhana Soudha should be completely stopped. Also, as there are chances of the secretariat staff bringing their family members for the event, an order should be issued aimed at ensuring that this doesn't happen. It also seeks a holiday to be declared for secretariat staff to ensure that they too don't come, Ashoka pointed out. "The letter also calls for installation of more CCTV cameras in the vicinity of Vidhana Soudha and nearby places, given the large gathering expected, and highlights the need for an anti-drone system," he said and alleged that the government threw all these conditions into the "dustbin" and organised the event. Also conditions laid down by the PWD department that only 25-30 guests would be allowed on the dias was also completely violated, Ashoka said, "when the rules were flouted on the dias at Vidhana Soudha event, do you expect rules to be followed by the people at the KSCA stadium event, as you have blamed over crowing for the tragedy?" "You people (in the government) took the lives of innocent people, but police officers and the police commissioner were suspended," he chided. The victory cup was won by Virat Kohli and the RCB team but the CM and Deputy CM tried to gain credit from it by organising victory celebrations at haste, Ashoka alleged and said, "If there was no friction between these two power centres, such a situation and deaths wouldn't have happened. Because of the friction between these two, we have seen the deaths." "Instead of attending to the situation with deaths happening, and consoling the families of the deceased, while one went to the stadium to attend the victory celebrations there and kissed the trophy won by the RCB, the other had gone to eat Dosa," he alleged indirectly referring to the Deputy CM and CM. He slammed them for going on with celebrations both at Vidhana Soudha and the stadium thereafter, despite deaths due to a stampede, and called them "inhuman".

With AIADMK Back, Amit Shah Charts Course To Dismantle DMK In Tamil Nadu Polls

Last Updated: While addressing a rally in Madurai, Shah took a jibe at Stalin and said that Tamil Nadu chief minister rightly says that he (Shah) cannot defeat the DMK. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday vowed to end Chief Minister MK Stalin rule in Tamil Nadu and asserted that BJP is going to form a government in the state. Riding high on confidence on the back of the BJP's recent election wins in Odisha, Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi, Shah vowed the saffron party will also be successful in defeating their rivals in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal next year, and form government. While addressing a rally in Madurai, Shah took a jibe at Stalin and said that Tamil Nadu chief minister rightly says that he (Shah) cannot defeat the DMK. This is because the people of Tamil Nadu would hand a loss to the DMK in the assembly elections next year. 'The NDA government of the BJP-AIADMK alliance will be formed here in 2026. I live in Delhi, but my ears are always on Tamil Nadu. MK Stalin says that Amit Shah cannot defeat DMK. He is right. It's not me, but the people of Tamil Nadu will defeat you," he said as quoted by news agency ANI. #WATCH | Madurai, Tamil Nadu | Union Home Minister Amit Shah says, 'The NDA government of the BJP-AIADMK alliance will be formed here in 2026. 'I apologise to my BJP workers of Tamil Nadu as I cannot talk to them in one of the greatest languages of India – Tamil," he said. The Union Minister further demanded the Staling government that the medical and engineering be taught in the Tamil language soon. 'I want to repeat my demand from the Tamil Nadu government that medical and engineering be taught in the Tamil language soon. PM Modi respected Tamil Nadu by installing Sengol in parliament, and I expect MK Stalin to write a letter to the PM to thank him for it," he said. Shah further launched a scathing attack on DMK saying that it crossed all limits of corruption in the last four years of its tenure. 'The DMK government in Tamil Nadu has crossed all limits of corruption. They committed a huge scam by handing over the Rs 450 crore nutrition kits provided by the Central government to a private company, and deprived the poor of food," Shah alleged while addressing party workers. He also claimed that the state government also committed a sand mining scam to the tune of Rs 4,600 crore, causing poor people of the state to buy sand at inflated prices just to help the ruling party to mint money. BJP-AIADMK Alliance After two years, the BJP and the AIADMK have formed an alliance again to contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for next year. The BJP and AIADMK contested together in the 2021 Tamil Nadu elections when Palaniswami was the Chief Minister. However, the NDA lost the elections to DMK and its alliance partners, only managing to win 75 seats out of 234 constituencies. The AIADMK won 66 seats, while the BJP managed only four seats. The two parties went solo in the Lok Sabha and failed to win a single seat in Tamil Nadu. However, the BJP's vote share in the state increased significantly under K Annamalai's leadership.
