Gruesome way hiking influencer Hannah Moody was found dead

News.com.aua day ago
The family of US hiking influencer Hannah Moody have shared a moving post on the 31-year-old's Instagram, in the months following her tragic death.
Ms Moody, who goes by Hannah Rose on social media, was previously reported as a missing person on May 21 just before 8pm local time by concerned friends.
Tragically, her body was discovered 550-metres off-trail the following day by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Air Unit, near the Gateway Trailhead of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Arizona.
Doing what she 'adored', the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office said the experienced hiker was found 'deceased and decomposing' after she failed to return from the trail in late May.
It is understood that at the time Ms Moody was hiking near Scottsdale in the state of Arizona, temperatures likely reached a high of 40 degrees celsius for significant periods of the day.
As reported by People last month, the medical examiner's office previously concluded that Ms Moody's cause of death was 'environmental heat exposure' and that the manner of death was determined to be 'accidental'.
But the full post-mortem analysis in late July now specifies that her body was discovered with 'decompositional changes' and 'abrasions of the right shoulder and lower extremities.'
In addition, the woman's toxicology results were negative for 'ethanol, screened drugs of abuse, and select therapeutic medications' and that she only had 'minimally elevated creatine and urea nitrogen'.
Posting to the hiker's Instagram page, family said Ms Moody died doing what she loved and that she is now with Him.
'She died doing what she adored – hiking the Arizona mountains,' the post, which received more than 55,000 likes, read.
'Know that you were all precious and loved by her and that she would want nothing more than for each of you to find Jesus and to know His great goodness and love for you.
'We miss Hannah terribly, but we know she is in a place so beautiful that this earth pales in comparison. Rest in His peace, sweet girl; we'll see you on the other side.'
A week after her death, Ms Moody's mother Terri told local media Arizona's Family that they were trying to piece together what had happened.
'We're trying to piece it all together because we don't know of any conditions that she had or anything like that, that would have caused anything,' Terri said, adding that at the time they assumed 'it was heat-related' and 'that there were no signs of foul play'.
The most recent post on Ms Moody's Instagram was met with hundreds of comments, with many followers saying they were 'heartbroken' by the news.
'She was such a light and left an incredible impact through her social media presence,' one wrote.
'My heart absolutely aches for you and your family in so many ways,' another added.

Washington DC launches court challenge against Trump administration police takeover

Washington DC has challenged US President Donald Trump's takeover of its police department in court, hours after his administration stepped up its crackdown on policing. District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb said in a new lawsuit that Mr Trump was going far beyond his power under the law. Mr Schwalb asked a judge to find that the district still controls the department and sought an emergency restraining order. "The administration's unlawful actions are an affront to the dignity and autonomy of the 700,000 Americans who call DC home," he said. "This is the gravest threat to Home Rule that the District has ever faced, and we are fighting to stop it." The lawsuit comes after Federal Attorney General Pam Bondi said Thursday night, local time, that Drug Enforcement Administration boss Terry Cole would assume the "powers and duties vested in the District of Columbia Chief of Police." She said the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) "must receive approval from Commissioner Cole" before issuing any orders. It was unclear where the move left the city's current police chief, Pamela Smith, who works for the mayor. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser pushed back, writing on social media that "there is no statute that conveys the District's personnel authority to a federal official." Justice Department and White House spokespeople did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment on the district's lawsuit. Mr Schwalb said late Thursday that Ms Bondi's directive was "unlawful," arguing it could not be followed by the city's police force. He wrote in a memo to Ms Smith that "members of MPD must continue to follow your orders and not the orders of any official not appointed by the Mayor," setting up the legal clash. Ms Bondi's directive came even after Ms Smith told MPD officers hours earlier to share information with immigration agencies regarding people not in custody, such as someone involved in a traffic stop or checkpoint. The Justice Department said Ms Bondi disagreed with the police chief's directive because it allowed for continued enforcement of "sanctuary policies," which generally limit cooperation by local law enforcement with federal immigration officers. Mr Trump's Attorney General said she was rescinding that order as well as other MPD policies limiting inquiries into immigration status and preventing arrests based solely on federal immigration warrants. All new directives must now receive approval from Commissioner Cole, the attorney general said. The police takeover is the latest move by Mr Trump to test the limits of his legal authority. The DC population, already tense from days of ramp-up, has begun seeing more significant shows of force across the city. National Guard troops watched over some of the world's most renowned landmarks and Humvees took position in front of the busy main train station. Volunteers helped homeless people leave long-standing encampments, but it was unclear where they were moved to. Department of Homeland Security police stood outside Nationals Park on Thursday during a game between the Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies. DEA agents patrolled The Wharf, a popular nightlife area, while Secret Service officers were seen in the Foggy Bottom neighbourhood. National Guard Major Micah Maxwell said troops would assist law enforcement in various roles, including traffic control posts and crowd control. The Guard members have been trained in de-escalation tactics and crowd control equipment, Major Maxwell added. AP

‘You're a f**king coward': Shocking footage of Olympic champ's arrest

Bodycam footage of Sha'Carri Richardson's recent arrest has been released amid her domestic violence altercation with her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Richardson is seen in the video arguing with a responding police officer and calling her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, a 'coward', the New York Post reports. UFC 319: Du Plessis vs Chimaev | SUN 17 AUG 12PM AEST | UFC Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis puts his title on the line against undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. | Order Now with Main Event on Kayo Sports. 'This is the position that Christian puts me into,' Richardson said to the police in the Seattle airport, according to bodycam footage. 'Because he's a coward and I don't want anything to do with him from this point going forward. 'My name is Sha'Carri Richardson. Have no problem with letting you know who I am. 'Haven't put my hands on him. We had an argument, I will be honest about that.' Richardson, 25, then gave her identification to the officer who was moving on to talk to Coleman. 'But yeah, you're a coward,' Richardson said, now turning to talk to her boyfriend. 'You're a f**king coward. … I will never f**k with you again.' When she was placed under arrest, she began yelling at him as officers put handcuffs on her. 'You're under arrest for assault,' one officer said to her. Richardson then denied assaulting him when another officer said: 'We have video cameras.' She continued, saying: 'Christian, are you serious right now? 'Christian, I am going to go to jail because of you right now.' Richardson then asked if she could get bail from the officers, who told her that would not be happening. The Olympic gold medallist continued as she got put in the back of the police car, asking if she could take her handcuffs off, but she was also denied that request and began crying. 'My name is Sha'Carri Richardson … I don't have anything on me. Can you please take these off? I am not a criminal. I had an argument with my boyfriend,' she said. Surveillance footage shows Richardson shoved Coleman multiple times, even once shoving him into a wall as he continued to walk away. Richardson has since apologised for the ugly incident. 'I apologise to Christian. He came into my life & gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I've experienced in the past,' she wrote. 'Due to my past trauma & pain, I was blind & blocked off to not only receive it but give it. 'I love him & to him I can't apologise enough. 'My apology should be just as loud as my actions honestly louder. 'To Christian I love you & I am so sorry.' Richardson, a two-time medallist in the Olympics with one gold and one silver, said she is actively seeking help on the matter.

Rudy Giuliani sells NY home for $7.62m

Rudy Giuliani is finally bidding adieu to his stately Upper East Side co-op — and New York altogether. For the two-time NYC mayor and one-time personal lawyer to President Donald Trump, selling his long-troubled penthouse was less of a victory lap and more of a clearance sale, the New York Post reports. The former Hizzoner, 81, parted with the three-bedroom spread at 45 E. 66th Street for US $4.95 million (AUD $7.62m), lawyer Gary Rosen, Giuliani's representative in the sale, confirmed. The buyer remains unnamed. Once touted at US $6.5 million (AUD $10m) in 2023, the more-than-10,000-square-foot top-floor residence in the landmarked Fred Leighton Building saw its price chipped away through multiple relistings, brief withdrawals, and, finally, a March return to market at US $5.2 million (AUD $8m). Rosen declined to comment on the final markdown — or the purchaser. The apartment's many enviable qualities — a wood-paneled library, formal dining room, city views and Yankees memorabilia — were long overshadowed by Giuliani's legal troubles. The property was nearly seized by Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who won a US $146 million (AUD $225m) defamation judgment against Giuliani — after he accused them of ballot tampering. In testimony, the pair said his unfounded claims 'helped unleash a wave of hatred and threats we never could have imagined.' A judge had ordered the home handed over, along with other valuables — but a confidential settlement earlier this year allowed Giuliani to keep it. Eventually, he decided to offload the home anyway. Before waving goodbye to the prime Madison Avenue address, Giuliani took full control of the property from his third ex-wife, Judith, paying her US $2.5 million (AUD $3.85m) in July, records show. 'He got the apartment, and she got some Hamptons property,' Rosen said. Records show Giuliani originally paid US $4.8 million (AUD $7.39m) for the apartment in 2002 — the same year he finalised his second divorce from Donna Hanover. With the deal done, Rosen said Giuliani will now make Florida his primary address — trading Central Park views for palm trees.
