BJP councillors begin strike at JMC-H over corruption

1 2 Jaipur: Over 20 BJP councillors began an indefinite strike against JMC Heritage mayor Kusum Yadav, at the municipal corporation headquarters Wednesday, accusing the civic body of being neck deep in corruption and holding it responsible for poor sanitary conditions in Jaipur's Walled City area. Councillors sang hymns and offered prayers for the mayor and commissioner. Yadav, an independent councillor from ward 74, was made the mayor in Sept 2024 with support of councillors from BJP. In JMC Heritage, the current board has BJP in majority. "In the current board, fake land leases are being issued, and despite councillors informing the administration about the issue, no action is being taken. This is blatant corruption as land leases are issued only after all officials and the mayor sign it," said Subhash Vyas, a councillor part of the protest. Councillors demanded that a fair investigation must be conducted by an agency and wrongly issued leases must be cancelled. Councillor Manoj Mudgal, who is also the chairperson of the encroachment prevention committee, said, "In the general body meeting of JMC Heritage, a proposal of allotting Rs 1 crore for development work in each ward was passed. The amount was also sanctioned, but now funds are not being issued. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Fazendo a diferença no ambiente corporativo Siemens Energy Learn More Undo Sanitation conditions have already been deteriorating, and recently chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also expressed displeasure over it. " They further said that beat sanitation workers are also not being given to councillors. For every ward, five beat sanitation workers, apart from regular waste collection, were also approved by the board. Councillors said that until their demands are met, the protest will continue, and they threatened to go on a hunger strike in the coming days. "Corruption is taking place openly, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances. In the Civil Line Zone, fake leases of govt land worth crores of rupees have been issued, which must be investigated impartially," added Mudgal. Councillors from different wards, including Suresh Navriya, Uttam Sharma, Manak Sharma, Santosh Kanwar, Anshul Sharma, Jyoti Chauhan, Vikram Singh, Subhash Vyas, among others, joined the protest. Despite attempts, mayor Yadav and commissioner Nidhi Patel, did not respond to calls for a comment. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Haryana identifies 91 bank branches with ‘mule accounts': 26 of them in Gurgaon, 24 in Nuh

Chandigarh: Haryana Police have identified 91 bank branches across the state where suspected "mule accounts" are being operated by cybercriminals for large-scale fraudulent transactions. Of these, 26 branches are in Gurgaon and 24 in Nuh district. Special teams of the cybercrime wing are conducting examinations of the records to ensure negligence or deliberate collusion of bank staff are not facilitating cybercriminals. The teams are scrutinising lapses in KYC compliance, procedural violations in account opening, the role of bank employees, and any signs of negligence. Continuing the drive, raids were conducted in districts of Karnal and Yamunanagar on Wednesday. In Yamunanagar, investigations revealed that a firm having a current account, officially shut down in March 2025, carried out transactions worth Rs 43 lakh. Nationwide, eight complaints were registered against this firm. Another current account was found to be opened on a fake address, and transactions worth Rs 2 crore made in just three months. The account has 33 complaints filed against it across the country. Haryana director general of police Shatrujeet Kapoor said a robust and multi-pronged strategy has been devised to clamp down on cybercrime. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This includes strict monitoring of bank branches, rapid analysis of suspicious transactions, regular raids, and ensuring adherence to banking regulations. VVCMC case: ED probing if bribes totalled 275 cr

Mumbai: While requesting the special court to remand the arrested ex-VVCMC (Vasi-Virar civic body) chief and IAS officer Anil Pawar in judicial custody along with three other accused, the ED said that during his tenure, he granted building commencement certificates for 5.51 crore sq ft of built-up area in urban and green zone areas after charging bribes. Earlier, the ED stated that Pawar charged commissions up to Rs 50 per sq foot. According to that calculation, ED is investigating if the bribe amount collected by him and his junior, deputy director of town planning Y S Reddy, from builders is over Rs 275 crore. During the remand hearing, the plea submitted by the special public prosecutor for the ED, Kavita Patil, stated that the proceeds of crime have cross-border implications, leading to the utilisation of crime proceeds not only in India but also abroad, which is part of their investigation. The court remanded four arrested accused, including Pawar and Reddy, to jail custody. The prosecution requested the court to grant it the right to seek further custody of the arrested should it become necessary. The accused were arrested on Aug 13. In the remand application, ED stated that Reddy functioned as deputy director of the town planning department of VVCMC and, along with Anil Pawar, was neck-deep in corrupt practices. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo The ED investigations revealed they created an organised mechanism for collection of bribe amounts for various permissions like commencement certificates, occupancy certificates, and revised development permissions granted for different layout and building plans. In the demand, the ED said, "Investigation so far has revealed that Pawar... in connivance with Reddy, granted commencement certificates for a total built-up area of 5,50,43,263.59 (5.51 crore) square feet in urban and green zone areas wherein bribe in the form of commission was charged at fixed rates." The investigations revealed that he used to patronise unauthorised construction activity in lieu of a hefty bribe amount where the rate of bribe was much higher than that in the civic body's town planning department.
