Wrexham coach hails Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney impact
Former Premier League midfielder and now first team coach at The Racecourse, Jones is looking forward to the next chapter on the Reds' amazing progress since the Hollywood movie stars became owners. 'Rob and Ryan have been superb from the beginning,' said Jones, who has just returned from America after taking charge of the Red Dragons' sevens team in a $1m North Carolina TST tournament. 'Their enthusiasm, drive and commitment to the club has inspired everyone connected with Wrexham. 'On the footballing side, they have brought in a quality manager in Phil Parkinson, who has now been promoted six times in his career, as well as the experienced Steve Parkin and Aidan Davison, who have great knowledge of the game. 'The players that have been integrated into the squad over the last few seasons have been a mix of youth and experience, which has proved very successful.' Jones, who was promoted to the Premier League four times as a player, says another key factor of the success is how the owners have always fully embraced Wrexham's proud history. 'Off the pitch Shaun Harvey and Michael Williamson have both used their areas of expertise to take the club forward while strengthening the link between the fans, players and staff. Humphrey Ker, who has been here since the takeover, has been a very calming and consistently supportive influence around the place as the football club has grown. 'There are people who have been at the club for many years still working here including the head groundsman Paul Chaloner, kit man Iwan Pugh-Jones and Cledwyn Ashford in youth development not to mention the support and wisdom on offer from Brian Flynn, Joey Jones and Mickey Thomas,' added Jones. 'These colleagues and Wrexham legends are the fabric of the club and the owners recognise the importance of these people'. A former pupil at Darland High School in Rossett, where Wrexham's Academy graduates now hang out, Jones began his footballing journey at Wrexham as a nine year old before being signed by Manchester United a year later. He went onto make four first team appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson before being bought by Derby County for £1.5 million in 2007. He made over 400 career appearances during spells at Wolves, Blackburn, Burnley, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday before heading to Wrexham where he volleyed in a debut goal in Parkinson's first match in charge - a 2-2 draw at Solihull Moors in 2021.

Bradley Barcola and PSG respond to Liverpool interest in £100m transfer
Bradley Barcola is not interested in a move to Liverpool this summer with Paris Saint-Germain adamant he is not for sale. The 22-year-old enjoyed a sensational campaign in the French capital, helping the club finally clinch the Champions League with a wonderful return of 21 goals and 19 assists during the 2024-25 campaign. With PSG boasting perhaps the most exciting forward line in European football, Barcola was competing with Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for a starting berth with one of that quartet usually left on the bench. Barcola was the unlucky man in the Champions League final against Inter earlier this month, still coming off the bench to grab an assist. While there has been no indication he is unhappy with the situation in Paris, reports have claimed Liverpool will look to tempt him to Merseyside in a £100million deal once they have wrapped up a deal for Florian Wirtz. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. The France international is also on Bayern Munich's radar with the German champions eager to freshen up their wide options. Both clubs are set to be disappointed, however. Foot Mercato report PSG have ruled out any possibility of Barcola leaving the club this summer with the youngster considered integral to the team by head coach Luis Enrique. Barcola is also eager to remain at PSG with both parties 'sharing the desire to continue the adventure together'. While Liverpool are making a sizeable investment in bringing Wirtz to the club for what will be a record Premier League fee, their summer transfer window is unlikely to end there. More Trending Another attacking option is being considered with Luis Diaz also thought to be eager to leave to join Barcelona. Liverpool are keen on an ambitious move for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, who Newcastle United value at over £150million. Arsenal have already thrown in the towel in their pursuit of the Swede with that price tag surely placing him out of Liverpool's reach too. Darwin Nunez is available for transfer and expected to leave, while Liverpool will also consider bids for Diogo Jota. Hibs face transatlantic competition for their top transfer target, with multiple MLS clubs showing an interest in Sunderland midfielder Nectar Triantis. The Socceroos hopeful has two years left on his contract with the Premier League-bound Black Cats but, with chances to break into the first team at the Stadium of Light likely to be limited, other options are being actively explored. After two loan spells at Easter Road, Triantis remains open to the idea of a third stint in the capital. Hibs have been in negotiations with Sunderland, who would expect up to £1 million in compensation for any transfer, about both a permanent move AND the possibility of another season-long loan. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Triantis, who has just turned 22, was an absolute stand-out for Hibs last season, picking up Young Player of the Year honours at the club's annual awards and making the short list for the Scottish Football Writers' Association Player of the Year. The defensive midfielder became absolutely central to David Gray's plans as the former captain pulled off a remarkable turnaround in fortunes in his first season as manager, climbing from the relegation zone in early December to finish third in the Scottish Premiership. Triantis earned a first Australia call-up off the back of his performances , with Socceroos boss Tony Popovic publicly crediting the player's showing in February's 2-1 home win over Celtic as a factor in the former youth international's recruitment to the senior squad. An unused sub in his country's March wins over China and Indonesia, he was called up again for the make-or-break World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Saudi Arabia. Triantis has 'a lot on his mind' in potentially decisive summer But he withdrew from the squad to focus on the decisions he's facing in a crucial summer, with Popovic revealing: 'He just said he's got a lot of things on at the moment, a lot on his mind in terms of what he wants to do. We have to respect that, and we'll see what happens.' Popovic's men secured qualification for their sixth consecutive World Cup Finals appearance with this week's victory in Jedda, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Hibs stars Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller . Gray remains hopeful that the lure of playing alongside established Socceroos regulars, keeping him very much on Popovic's radar, will be the deciding factor for a player who is focused on representing his country in next summer's finals in Canada, Mexico and the USA. With fellow Hibee Jack Iredale also earning his first Australia recognition last season, they've made a strong case for Easter Road as the ideal platform for any World Cup hopeful. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Interest in Triantis has been widespread, with a number of UK clubs joining continental suitors in exploring the possibility of a loan, at least. And it is understood that at least two Major League Soccer clubs have expressed an interest in offering a starring role to the former Central Coast Mariners prospect. Hibs are also keeping an open mind over a potential Easter Road turn for Ryan Porteous. Talks with out-of-contract regulars Rocky Bushiri and Junior Hoilett, meanwhile, remain ongoing just over a week before the bulk of the first-team squad return to East Mains for pre-season training.
