'As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.
The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.'
Elon Musk exits DOGE earlier than expected
Musk was appointed as a Special Government Employee by the
Trump administration
to work a federal job for 130 days each year. Had he stayed, the limit would have been reached by late May, based on Trump's January 20 inauguration.
His exit comes just one day after he voiced "disappointment" with the president's budget plan, which features sweeping tax cuts and expanded military spending.
Elon Musk said he is 'disappointed' with One Big Beautiful Bill
In an interview with CBS scheduled to air on June 1, Musk said 'I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, which increases the budget deficit, not just decrease it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.'
'I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don't know if it could be both,' he added.
The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (H.R.1) was recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on May 22, 2025, by a narrow 215–214 vote. The bill aims to make permanent the successful 2017 Trump tax cuts and includes critical pro-growth policies that will cut taxes by an additional $1,300 for a family of four and deliver higher wages and incomes for millions of Americans.

Metrowater tanker operators to strike work from tomorrow

Chennai: Metrowater tanker operators are set to launch a strike starting this Sunday, protesting the delay in finalizing tenders and issuing work orders. P S Sundaram, president of Metrowater Tanker Owners' Association, said that around 450 tankers of varying capacities currently operate under contract with Metrowater. The last tender period ended in Feb last year. Though officials promised to call for fresh tenders by Aug 2024 and reportedly completed the tender process by Nov, no work orders have been issued so far. This prolonged inaction has forced many tanker owners into debt, as several of them purchased new vehicles in anticipation of renewed contracts. With no official communication from Metrowater, over 350 newly acquired vehicles are lying idle in sheds across the city. "The inaction not only left many contractors in a financial bind but also led to issues in the new vehicles that haven't been operated for months," said one of the contractors. He added that in June last year he purchased a tanker, which has now developed a fault despite being unused. "Even the manufacturer is unable to identify the issue," he said. On average, each tanker operates up to eight trips a day, supplying water to areas without piped water. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologista recomenda: simples truque elimina o fungo facilmente Acabe com o Fungo Undo "If the strike goes ahead, it will directly affect those who depend on Metrowater's free water supply," said a senior Metrowater official. With no response from the authorities, the association has announced that tanker operations will be suspended starting June. Unless swift action is taken, the worst-hit will be households relying on govt's free tanker service, operators said.

Goa police use multilingual app to help tourists, hasten response

Panaji: Goa police have covered most tourist areas by using an app for better communication between international and domestic tourists, locals, and cops. Through the app, Goa police have set a national example of inclusive, tech-enabled public service. Currently, Goa police are among the largest users of the Bhashini app, developed by the Union ministry of electronics and information technology. Police cited the example of a Russian tourist's experience to demonstrate the efficacy of the app. The tourist was lost on Candolim beach due to some family issues. 'Upon seeing her in distress, the inspector of the tourist police unit, with his subordinate, tried to communicate with her using the Bhashini app,' police said. 'It turned out to be a valuable tool for bridging linguistic diversity and promoting digital inclusivity.' In Jan, chief minister Pramod Sawant launched the app in the state. Bhashini congratulated Goa police for embracing technology to eliminate language barriers and enhance citizen-centric policing. 'By using this app, we can translate anything in real time and interact with citizens easily and effectively,' DGP Alok Kumar said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo 'It has become easy to communicate with people who don't understand the local language.' Kumar said that during the DG/IG conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon state police forces to use the Bhashini app developed by the IT ministry to converse with citizens and tourists who may not speak the local language. 'This app has been downloaded by police stations, the PCR, the Pink Force, and tourist police personnel so that any language barrier between the citizen/tourist in need of assistance is removed to provide quick relief,' Kumar said. 'The app can translate most Indian languages and five foreign languages. It can be a path-breaking tool, making an effective bridge for languages between people who seek our assistance and the police personnel on the ground. ' Bhashini said, 'From the vibrant beaches of Baga to the cultural hubs of Panaji, Goa police have seamlessly integrated the Bhashini app to communicate with citizens and tourists in their own languages. Real-time translation is empowering officers to respond faster, understand concerns better, and serve more effectively.' It added, 'The app is transforming policing in Goa — where language is no longer a barrier to safety, service, and trust.' DIG Varsha Sharma said, 'The app is very much required for Goa police as we have a high footfall of tourists around the year. The tourists speak different languages.' Sharma said, 'We were able to use the app in creating awareness on the implementation of new criminal laws, cybercrime, and the ill effects of drugs.'
