FedExCup Playoffs: Scottie Scheffler's caddie returns for Tour Championship after absence

Ted Scott has made it to Atlanta this week to rejoin Scottie Scheffler in his quest for a second straight FedExCup. The top ranked golfer in the world will have his usual caddie on the bag with him at the Tour Championship this week. Scott left Scheffler ahead of the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship two weeks ago and was not with him when he won the BMW Championship last week while tending to a family emergency at home in Louisiana. Michael Cromie, Chris Kirk's usual caddie, stepped in to replace Scott last week in Maryland. The duo then rolled to the win at Caves Valley Golf Club, which gave Scheffler his fifth win of the PGA Tour season. That win earned Cromie a $360,000 paycheck, too. Scheffler has not gotten into specifics about Scott's absence, and he likely won't when he speaks to reporters on Wednesday. 'I think Ted's where he needs to be right now, and I think caddying is probably the last thing on his mind, as it should be,' Scheffler said before the BMW Championship. 'I've been able to talk to him a few times. The family is in good spirits. Everybody seems to be doing well.' Scheffler has now won 12 times over the past two seasons on Tour, three of which were major championships. He's now just a U.S. Open win away from becoming the seventh golfer in history to complete the career grand slam. He's finished inside the top 10 in every start dating back to the Texas Children's Houston Open in March, too. While Scheffler won't have a starting strokes advantage this week at East Lake — the Tour did away with its old format this season and will have every golfer in the 30-man field start at even par — he's easily the favorite to repeat as the FedExCup champion. That's something that's never been done in back-to-back years since the format was introduced in 2007. Now with Scott back by his side, it seems only more likely that Scheffler will be in position to pull that feat off come Sunday afternoon.

Scottie Scheffler Appears To Have Called Out European Golf Fans

Scottie Scheffler Appears To Have Called Out European Golf Fans originally appeared on The Spun. Scottie Scheffler continued his incredible hot streak over the weekend after overcoming a four-stroke deficit in Sunday's BMW Championship to secure his 18th PGA Tour win. Like with most things over the past few years, Scheffler made it look easy as he punctuated his walk down of Scotland's Robert MacIntyre with an outstanding chip-in on No. 17 to put the dagger is his opponent's hopes. This past weekend marked the fourth time in his career that Scheffler had come back from four strokes or more through 54 holes. And it also gave him his fifth victory on the PGA calendar — making him the first golfer since Tiger Woods to post back-to-back seasons of 5+ wins. At one point during the tournament, MacIntyre turned and shushed a fan after draining a putt on No. 14 to save par — something Scottie was given a front row seat to — and it led to Scheffler recalling his own experience with a fan across the pond at this year's Open Championship. Golf fans in the U.S. tend to be viewed as more rowdy than the typical overseas spectator — especially with events like the WM Phoenix Open. But the four-time major champion says he's received his fair share of heckling from fans all across the globe. Scheffler calls out 'silly' European fan "I didn't see any of that. I played with Bob when we were in Scotland. I heard some fairly choice words when I was leading the tournament in Ireland," Scheffler told reporters Saturday. "I think it's part of it. People have a tendency to say things that are dumb. I can think of a few things that were said to me in the final round in Ireland that were very far over the line," he added. "If you're a fan, it's only going to fire the guy up more, and I think just do your best to behave out there. It can be a little bit silly sometimes." Whatever the fan said certainly didn't appear to affect Scottie too much, as he coasted to a 17-under win to capture yet another major for his growing trophy case.
