The BJP on Sunday said that it has no plans to use Col Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh as party's campaign faces.This came after a media report claimed that Col Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh, who led India's press briefings on Operation Sindoor, will be the faces of an ambitious women-centric campaign to be rolled out by the BJP on the completion of 11 years of the Modi government on June 9.Commenting on the media report on X, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya said, "This is Fake News."The BJP has no plans to use either Col Sofia Qureshi or Wing Commander Vyomika Singh as campaign faces, he asserted."The comments made by BJP Minority Morcha president Jamal Siddiqui have been misconstrued. He simply made a limited point about highlighting Col Qureshi as an example of an empowered Muslim woman within the community," Malviya said.

A day after INDIA bloc parties wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss the developments following the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Opposition parties Wednesday hit out at the government for announcing the dates of the Monsoon session 'so much in advance' and alleged that it was done to dilute the demand for the special session. Barring AAP and NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar, all other INDIA bloc parties had signed the letter. The AAP is learnt to have sent a separate letter raising the same demand. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju Wednesday announced that the Monsoon session of the Parliament will commence on July 21 and conclude on August 12. Criticising the government action, Congress communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh said that 'usually the dates of the Parliament session are announced a few days in advance'. 'But this time, the dates were announced 47 days before the session began — this has never happened before,' Ramesh said. He alleged that the decision was taken by the government only to avoid the demand of the India alliance to convene an urgent special session of Parliament. 'Serious issues including the failure of the government to bring to justice the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack, impact of Operation Sindoor and the situation that arose thereafter and blatant politicisation of Operation Sindoor should be discussed in Parliament,' the Congress MP said. 'All these issues, which are of supreme national interest, will remain the focus of discussion during the monsoon session as well. After six weeks, the Prime Minister will have to answer some difficult questions,' said Ramesh. Samajwadi Party MP Javed Ali Khan said the government 'wants to dilute the Opposition's demand for a special session'. 'This is unprecedented,' he said. TMC Parliamentary Leader in Rajya Sabha Derek O'Brien said 'the government is scared'. 'Usually, a Parliament session is announced around 19 days ahead. This time, they announced it 47 days ahead. So scared,' said O'Brien. AIMIM chief and MP Asadduddin Owaisi said that during the Monsoon session, there must be a debate on the Pahalgam attack, the alleged security lapse, and those accountable for it. AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said that the Monsoon session is a regular session, and the government was not doing any favours by announcing it now. 'We will continue our demand for a discussion in (Parliament) on the issues related to Pakistan,' said Singh. RSP MP N K Premchandran also criticised the government action.

The government in the meeting also reviewed pressing issues related to developmental projects. The Ministry of Jal Shakti gave a detailed presentation on India's water management strategy, including a status update on the Indus Waters Treaty and other key infrastructure projects. According to sources, the presentation covered both India's diplomatic positioning and internal preparedness on water sharing and conservation, especially concerning cross-border rivers. Presentations were also made by other ministries, focusing on critical sectors ranging from infrastructure and energy to social welfare. Ministries were instructed to align their communication strategies with the government's larger public engagement goals. Importantly, all ministers were directed to take the government's achievements over the past 11 years directly to the people. The Prime Minister stressed the need for unified messaging and on-ground outreach to showcase development work and reforms under the NDA regime. With the strategic and administrative roadmap laid out, the Council of Ministers now enters what is expected to be a crucial phase of implementation and public engagement in PM Modi's third term.

Bengaluru stampede: CM Siddaramiah, PM Modi, RCB, BCCI express grief
Eleven individuals lost their lives and 33 were injured in a stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a large crowd had gathered to see the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team following its first Indian Premier League (IPL) title win. According to reports, thousands had assembled outside the stadium, and police attempted to manage the situation. Force was used as crowds surged against the entrance gates. Eyewitnesses stated that fans arrived in large numbers at the felicitation venue. Visuals showed police personnel moving the injured and unconscious to nearby hospitals using ambulances. An RCB fan outside the stadium said, "I don't know what we did had tickets." Another, Prashant Shetty, said, "We came to watch our stars. I bought tickets for the function but was not even able to enter the stadium. Police suddenly blocked all the roads and closed all the entrances to the venue, and suddenly they started lathi-charging near the main gate." RCB extends condolences to the affected families, ''We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team's arrival this afternoon. Saikia added, "When one organises a victory celebration of this and security measures need to be taken." Opposition slams state govt The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised the Congress-led government in Karnataka, demanding that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara accept responsibility for the incident. Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said on X: "It is extremely painful to see innocent lives lost even before the celebrations could begin. The primary reason for this massive tragedy is the lack of proper planning and complete failure to take precautionary measures. The state government, led by @INCKarnataka, must take full responsibility for this disaster."
