Suspects in JonBenet Ramsey's Murder Identified in Spreadsheet Created by Late Homicide Detective

Yahoo10-07-2025
Nearly three decades after the horrific Christmas Day murder of 6-year-old pageant princess JonBenét Ramsey, dedicated investigators have identified her killers and are gathering critical DNA evidence that they believe will lead to an arrest.
The National Enquirer can reveal that the names of dozens of suspects are detailed in a spreadsheet compiled by late homicide detective Lou Smit, who before his 2010 death was hired by JonBenét's father, John Ramsey, to investigate the case.
Armed with the spreadsheet, which contains approximately 600 critical line items — including suspect names and important evidence details — Smit's daughter, Cindy Marra, is heading the team of sleuths, who are relentlessly tracking down leads and chasing DNA.
'They should restart the investigation from scratch using Lou's list of suspects,' a source familiar with the spreadsheet tells the Enquirer.
'They had the name of the person of interest during the first week of the investigation, so that alone says the suspect is on Lou Smit's list because he had access to the police files.'
Marra told Denver 7 News, 'We decided the best thing we could do is work off the spreadsheet he developed.
'We have been able to eliminate from our list probably 25 people based on DNA.'
The explosive new breakthrough reignites one of America's most haunting murder mysteries that made international headlines after JonBenét's strangled, beaten and abused body was discovered on Dec. 26, 1996, in the basement of her family's home in Boulder, Colorado.
John and his wife, Patsy, who died of cancer in 2006, were initially considered suspects but were eventually cleared. But critics have long accused blundering lawmen of allowing the true culprits to get away with the brutal crime.
Smit, a seasoned Colorado Springs homicide detective, began compiling the vital information after being pulled out of retirement by JonBenét's frustrated dad, who insisted she was attacked by intruders who left behind DNA evidence on the child's underwear and underneath her fingernails — and that the DNA didn't match any of the Ramsey family.
Before his passing, Smit implored anyone who visited him, 'Please don't let this die,' and revealed to his daughter and others a list of approximately a half-dozen 'priority one' suspects, the insider exclusively tells the Enquirer.
In December, the Enquirer revealed that one of Smit's suspects was David Cooper, the alias of a man who contacted Ramsey 20 years ago and claimed to be a professional killer hired by one of his disgruntled ex-employees.
Cooper first contacted Ramsey by telephone, providing chilling details about his family home that had never been made public. Despite the compelling details, Boulder police shockingly asked the grieving father to do their jobs for them — even suggesting he bring the creep to the stationhouse for questioning.
'The police had no interest in looking at him,' Ramsey, 81, told the Enquirer in December.
After the Enquirer's exposé, Ramsey and a DNA expert met with new Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn to discuss running existing forensic evidence through a commercial genetic lab to see if the killers' relatives can be identified.
'It was a good meeting,' Ramsey told Denver 7 News about his two-hour showdown with the chief in January. 'I was impressed. They were not arrogant, cocky, big egos. They were eager to talk and get the case solved.'
Ramsey, however, admitted to the outlet that the police didn't openly 'talk about everything they're doing.'
Investigators have received more than 21,000 tips, analyzed hundreds of DNA samples and traveled to 19 states to question more than 1,000 people.
Still, they remained tight-lipped about the case when contacted by the Enquirer, refusing to say if they've identified a person of interest.
'Because this is an open and ongoing investigation, the Boulder Police Department is unable to give any interviews or comment on specific aspects of this crime,' Public Information Officer Dionne Waugh told the Enquirer via email.

Someone reportedly fired a shot into Andy Reid's office in 2024 while the Chiefs coach was inside

Someone fired a shot into the office of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in 2024 while the Chiefs coach was inside, The Kansas City Star reports. Neither Reid nor anyone else was injured, but he now sits behind bulletproof glass in his office window, according to the report. Citing "several sources," including a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, the Star reported Wednesday that the shooting took place in May of last year. Per the report, Reid was working alone in his office at the Chiefs practice facility after midnight on May 4 when someone from outside the building fired a shot through a window in his office. The bullet then lodged into the wall between the door to Reid's office and his bathroom, roughly 15 feet away from Reid's desk, per the report. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The shooting had not previously been reported or publicly disclosed until Wednesday. Investigation is ongoing KCPD spokesperson Capt. Jacob Becchina told The Star that no arrests have been made or charges filed, and that an investigation is ongoing. The Chiefs declined to comment to the Star about the incident. The motive for the shooting is unclear. 'There is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization," Becchina told the Star. 'Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault." Per the report, two other bullets were fired at the building during the shooting. One hit the third floor, one floor above Reid's second-story office. The other hit an outdoor air-conditioning unit. Kansas City's practice facilities reside at the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, which sits between the Chiefs' home field at Arrowhead Stadium and Kaufmann Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals. The facility also houses the Chiefs' front-office staff and corporate offices. Reid, 67, has coached the Chiefs for 12 seasons. He's led the Chiefs to five Super Bowl appearances and three Super Bowl victories in the last six seasons. He was three months removed from leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at the time of the shooting. The Chiefs are currently preparing for their third and final preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Friday. The Chiefs will open their regular season at home against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5.

49ers WR Demarcus Robinson suspended 3 games following DUI charge, team trades for Chiefs WR Skyy Moore

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson will miss the first three games of the season. The NFL suspended Robinson for three games on Wednesday following his DUI arrest last November, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed. Robinson is expected to appeal the suspension. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] 'D-Rob, we're not going to have him through the first three weeks,' Shanahan said on KNBR radio, via ESPN. 'You can always appeal it, so we'll hope for the best on that, but that's what we are planning for.' Robinson was arrested in November on a DUI charge when he was still playing with the Los Angeles Rams. He was pulled over hours following a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles after officers said they saw him driving more than 100 miles per hour on a Los Angeles-area freeway. He was cited and then released. The Rams did not suspend him for his actions. Robinson later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor DUI. He signed a two-year, $9.5 million deal to join the 49ers in free agency. With the plea deal behind him and the case now closed, the punishment is something that many had expected to be coming down before the start of the 2025 campaign. "[I'm] pretty anxious," Robinson said earlier this month about the impending suspension. "Just waiting on the outcome to see what happens with that. I really don't know the timeframe. Waiting to hear from them, obviously. It's all up to whatever the league says.' Robinson had a career-high 505 yards and seven touchdowns on 31 catches last season with the Rams. The former Florida standout was first selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent six seasons there, and then played one year with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Rams in 2023. Assuming the three-game suspension is upheld, Robinson will be eligible to return and make his debut with the 49ers on Sept. 28 when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars. 49ers trade for Chiefs WR Skyy Moore With Robinson out for the start of the season and other big injuries at the position, the 49ers made a move to bolster their wide receivers room on Wednesday afternoon. The franchise struck a deal to land Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. In exchange, the teams will swap late-round draft picks in 2027. Moore had 244 yards and a touchdown on 21 catches during the 2023 season, his second with the Chiefs after they took him out of Western Michigan the year prior. Moore appeared in just six games last season and didn't make a catch, however, while being extremely limited with a long core muscle injury. Moore should provide some much needed depth for the 49ers, who are very limited at wide receiver to start the year. Star Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from a torn ACL and MCL injury in his right knee, though he's hopeful to be back on the field around Week 6. Jauan Jennings is dealing with a calf injury amid his push for a new deal, and rookie wide receiver Jordan Watkins is recovering from a sprained ankle. The 49ers — who went 6-11 and missed the playoffs last season, just a year removed from their run to the Super Bowl — will open their season on Sept. 7 against the Seattle Seahawks.
