Dak Prescott's message to Micah Parsons amid Cowboys contract feud
The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons are officially at odds, with the latter holding in while waiting for Jerry Jones and Co. to negotiate a contract extension.
At times this offseason, it seemed as though the two sides might be able to reach a deal without protracted negotiations or hard feelings. However, that's not really how the Cowboys roll.
For yet another summer, Dallas is engaged in a public battle with one of its best players. Two years ago, Zack Martin held out until he agreed with a reworked deal in mid-August; last offseason, it was top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott, whose negotiations lasted until Aug. 26 and Sept. 8, respectively, before they signed some of the richest deals at their positions.
With Prescott having dealt with something similar just last year, he signaled support for Parsons when speaking with the media.
'I think Micah is doing a helluva job with being here,' Prescott said, via the Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins. 'He's a great teammate, he shows up, not just on the practice field and being focused, being the camaraderie [with the players], [going to] dinner. He's not just doing it to sign off and say, 'Hey, Jerry, look at me.' He wants to be out there practicing and honestly I'm glad he's not. He can't do that to himself.'
An interesting part of the Cowboys-Parsons negotiations is that there aren't any negotiations, not yet anyway. ESPN's Adam Schefter recently reported that Dallas hasn't offered Parsons a deal and, as a result, was not close in extending the All-Pro edge rusher.
The long summer with no contract talk has seemingly frustrated both sides, with Jones taking an unexpected shot at Parsons for missing four games last season, while Parsons has repeatedly criticized Jones for not engaging with his agent, David Mulugheta.
While the barbs will likely continue at least for a while, Prescott reaffirmed his desire to see Parsons sign a big deal and return to the Cowboys.
'That's the business of it,' Prescott said. 'That's the business of a holdout. I think he's taking some great steps in being here. I don't know if there's a correct way to handle it, to be honest with you. I will say that, I think he deserves to get paid. He should get paid and ultimately, going off the history from what I've seen, he will get paid. Hopefully it's sooner than later.'
The Cowboys' first preseason game is Aug. 9, while the season opener is Sept. 4 vs. the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Jets' Mason Taylor and Tyrod Taylor miss practice with injuries
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor sat out practice Monday with an ankle injury and backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor didn't participate with a knee ailment. Coach Aaron Glenn spoke to reporters before the session, and neither player's injury was mentioned. Glenn is expected to provide updates after practice Tuesday. Mason Taylor has been one of the Jets' standout performers during training camp, with the second-round draft pick out of LSU expected to play a major role in the offense with quarterback Justin Fields. Tyrod Taylor was on the field and in uniform throughout the session, but didn't take any snaps as Brady Cook and Adrian Martinez worked behind Fields during team drills. Glenn said wide receiver Xavier Gipson and cornerback/special teams ace Kris Boyd will be out this week after they both injured a shoulder during the Jets' scrimmage Saturday. Neither will play in New York's preseason opener at Green Bay on Saturday night. 'We will re-evaluate those guys going into next week,' Glenn said. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (calf) and left guard John Simpson (back) will also sit out this week. Rookie safety Malachi Moore, who has been sidelined with an oblique issue, will be worked back into practice this week. It's unclear how Glenn will approach the preseason opener, as far as who might play, after he declined to provide details on his thinking. 'I will answer that question later on in the week,' Glenn said. Shaky Fields The Jets' passing offense has struggled in the past few practices, with Fields looking out of sync at times with his receivers. It hasn't all been on Fields, who dislocated a toe on his right foot early in camp. There have been drops, bad routes and mental errors. But it hasn't been smooth lately for Fields, who was unofficially 4 of 16 in team drills Monday. 'I think he's really improving, I really do,' Glenn insisted. 'I'm excited about that player. I'm excited about the things that he is going to be able to create for us. And every day, man, he's just got to continue to keep chopping wood. And the type of person that he is, he's going to continue to do that.' Second-year cornerback Qwant'ez Stiggers echoed his coach's sentiments — and took it a step further. NBA Spurs agree to four-year extension with Fox: reports
NBA All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox has agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs worth $229 million, according to multiple reports on Monday. Fox, who would have become a free agent next year but is now set through the 2029-30 campaign according to ESPN and The Athletic, was obtained in a trade with Sacramento last February. The 2023 NBA All-Star and 2024 league leader in steals averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game in 17 appearances for the Spurs last season before season-ending surgery on his left pinkie finger last March. Fox spent more than seven seasons in Sacramento and has career averages of 21.5 points, 6.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals a game.
