French league launches own channel to broadcast Ligue 1
An agreement was struck for a "TV and digital platform entirely dedicated to Ligue 1" following a meeting of club presidents, the LFP's board of directors and representatives of its commercial arm, LFP Media.
The new channel will show eight of nine matches each weekend, with Qatar's beIN Sports keeping the rights to broadcast the remaining game.
Clubs in April voted for the large part in favour of ending the previous deal with streaming platform DAZN after a breakdown in relations between the two parties. It had only been agreed last July, a couple of weeks before the 2024-25 season started.
That arrangement promised Ligue 1 clubs just 400 million euros ($471 million) a year.
Adding in other deals, including with international broadcasters, the French league was still far short of its stated ambition of bringing in one billion euros annually from TV.
As a result, Ligue 1's TV deal last season was down on its previous contract, leaving France trailing even further behind Europe's biggest leagues — the Premier League's upcoming domestic rights deal for the next four years is valued at 2.02 billion euros per season. —

Turtles turn the tide after coach Badrul's halftime call
PETALING JAYA: A simple halftime reminder proved the spark for Terengganu's dominant 3-0 win over Penang in their Super League opener on Sunday. In a rain-soaked encounter at the City Stadium in Georgetown, the first half was lively but goalless, with the Turtles carving out numerous openings through French striker Yan Mabella and Brazilian winger Gabriel Silva. Penang goalkeeper Khairulazhan Khalid produced a string of excellent saves, while both teams were denied potential penalties by referee Khairulsyahmi Ahmad Khalidi. At the break, Terengganu coach Badrul Afzan Razali kept his message clear – be patient. 'I reminded the boys to be a bit more patient in the second half. Palace's Europa League demotion would 'devalue the competition', says keeper Henderson
LONDON: Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson said that the club's drop from the Europa League would "devalue the competition", as they await the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) decision on their appeal against UEFA's ruling in a multi-club ownership case. Palace were demoted to the Conference League, the third-tier European competition, by UEFA's Club Financial Control Body in July because John Textor, president of the Eagle Football Group, majority owners of Olympique Lyonnais, also has a controlling stake in the London club. Ligue 1 club Lyon, which also qualified for the second-tier continental competition, was allowed to compete. Palace have appealed to CAS against UEFA's decision to remove them from the Europa League, with a closed-door hearing taken place on August 8. A decision is expected on Monday. "We win the FA Cup, we are justified to be in the Europa League," Henderson told BBC Radio 5 Live after leading Palace to a FA Community Shield victory over Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday. "For football purposes, we deserve to be in the Europa League. I think it would devalue the competition unfortunately if we weren't in the Europa League." Palace said in June that New York Jets co-owner Robert Wood "Woody" Johnson had signed a legally binding agreement to buy Eagle Football Holding's stake in the club. Palace, however, missed the March deadline to comply with the multi-club ownership rules before winning the FA Cup in May to earn their place in European competition.
