NBA All-Star 2025: Chris Paul, Victor Wembanyama disqualified from Skills Challenge for not taking shots
The final stage of the three-part Skills Challenge involves shooting, but to get through the relay with as fast a time as possible, Wembanyama and Paul didn't actually shoot the balls from the rack. Instead, they flung the balls quickly toward the basket, not engaging in any sort of shooting motion.

Team Spurs was booed by the fans at the Chase Center and received disapproval from their fellow competitors for trying to circumvent the rules and get through the relay quickly. Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell was seen giving the Spurs duo a thumbs-down — two thumbs-down, actually — for their attempt to create a loophole.
Paul tried to plead his case and get the disqualification overturned, but with no success.

If not Savinho, Spurs have these two players on their radar
By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on August 21, 2025, 09:25 IST Tottenham Hotspur remain active in the transfer market as they look to bolster their attacking options. While Savinho, the highly-rated Brazilian winger currently shining in Europe, has been a top target for the North London club, the deal has hit complications. Manchester City, who have significant influence over the player's future, are understood to be reluctant to green-light a move, making Spurs' pursuit extremely challenging. With the Savinho chase stalling, Tottenham are exploring alternatives. Two names have emerged as potential backup options — Tyler Dibling and Morgan Rogers. Dibling, the young Southampton talent, has been attracting attention from several Premier League clubs. Known for his dribbling flair and confidence on the ball, the teenager could be a long-term investment for Spurs. However, Everton are believed to be leading the race for his signature, putting Tottenham in a difficult position to hijack the move. Meanwhile, Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers has also been linked. The versatile forward has enjoyed a breakout spell and impressed with his ability to operate across the frontline. At just 22, Rogers has plenty of room to develop, and his playing style could fit into Ange Postecoglou's attacking philosophy. Despite Spurs' interest, a transfer is considered unlikely given Villa's stance and the player's growing importance to their squad. The Spurs are the league's new young core with expectations
With a little over a month to go to training camp, talking heads and experts around the NBA are starting to make their predictions for next season. Every offseason, people ask the same questions. Which team that didn't make the playoffs last year will make it next season? What young team is ready to make the leap? This summer, the answer to those questions has almost unequivocally been the San Antonio Spurs. Former players like Jeff Teague and national talking heads like Zach Lowe have said the Spurs are a team likely to go from playing for lottery odds to playoff seeding. San Antonio's win total has been set at 43.5 by most sports books. Last season, 43 wins would earn a Western Conference team the 9th seed and a spot in the Play-In Tournament. The hype is on the Spurs' side. We've seen this before. The Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, and Memphis Grizzlies, in recent memory, went from plucky young squad to a playoff team written in Sharpie by the national media. Those teams all had multiple young stars and an exciting young core. San Antonio follows in those footsteps with Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox leading the way, backed up by a young core of Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan. But are the Spurs ready to make that leap? They were just 5 games out of the play-in last season, and you could argue that had Wembanyama and Fox not experienced season-ending injuries, San Antonio was in line to earn a play-in spot. A full season with their stars, a second-year leap from Castle, and contributions from new additions like Harper, Luke Kornet, and Kelly Olynyk, even in a tough Western Conference, could be enough to help them live up to the hype. It'll be a make-or-break season for a lot of Spurs, and those expectations could help them sink or swim. Harrison Barnes is entering a contract year and is no stranger to playing on contending teams. Sochan has yet to sign his contract extension. If he doesn't, he's slated for restricted free agency in the summer of 2026, and just ask Josh Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga how that has turned out for them. He needs to have a big season if he wants leverage in contract disputes next year. Even Vassell, who is locked into a solid contract, could feel pressure to keep his spot in the starting lineup, and could face harsher scrutiny if he goes on a cold streak. Expectations for young teams bring about criticism. With Wembanyama, the Spurs will be under the magnifying glass of the national media all season long. With 22 nationally televised games, the team will be under the critical eye of fans who don't watch the team night in and night out. This team has the talent to handle it. They wouldn't be identified as the young team to watch if they didn't. This Spurs squad has officially moved out of the intriguing young core, to a legit playoff contender in the West.

Cruiserweight Jake Paul and Lightweight Gervonta Davis To Fight on Nov. 14
Professional Boxing Cruiserweight Jake Paul and Lightweight Gervonta Davis To Fight on Nov. 14 Published Aug. 20, 2025 5:37 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link YouTuber-turned-cruiserweight boxer Jake Paul and undefeated WBA lightweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis have agreed to fight on Nov. 14 at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. Paul's promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, and Netflix announced the highly unusual matchup Wednesday. Netflix will stream the fight worldwide to its more than 300 million subscribers. The 30-year-old Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), a three-division world champion, would be the first star near his ostensible prime to face Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), the online celebrity who has become one of the world's highest-paid combat sports athletes despite never fighting an elite boxer. Netflix and Nakisa Bidarian, Paul's business partner, did not refer to the fight as an exhibition, but it's unclear how Georgia officials would allow the matchup to be held as a competitive bout, given the fighters' dramatic difference in size and experience. Paul typically weighs more than 200 pounds in the ring, while Davis is a 135-pound champion who has never fought above 140 pounds. The fighters did not announce a contracted weight or the number of rounds in their planned bout. ADVERTISEMENT The fight would mark a return to Netflix for the 28-year-old Paul, whose victory last November over the then-58-year-old Mike Tyson drew an estimated 108 million viewers globally. After Paul beat a tepid Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by decision earlier this summer, he entered the World Boxing Association's cruiserweight rankings at No. 14, making him eligible to fight for world titles. Instead of pursuing a cruiserweight belt, Paul recently discussed a fight with two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua — a more logical opponent in terms of size and strength — but shifted his focus to the popular Davis, who has jousted with Paul on social media for years. Perhaps Paul can look inside his own family for a plan: His older brother, Logan, weighed 189 pounds before fighting Floyd Mayweather at 155 pounds in an eight-round exhibition bout in 2021. Promoters said the spectacle sold more than 1 million pay-per-view buys and made more than $80 million. Davis has been billed by his promoters as "the modern-day Mike Tyson" because of the frequency with which he has won by knockout, but his career and life have been rocky in 2025. He struggled to a shocking draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in his most recent ring outing in March, and he was arrested on a domestic violence charge in Florida last month before the misdemeanor battery case was dropped last week. Bidarian said Paul and Davis are "favorites of the Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences," and that their bout will "determine the true face of boxing's next generation." "This isn't just a fight, it's a spectacle that brings together two of the most electrifying figures in boxing today," Netflix vice president Brandon Riegg said. Reporting by The Associated Press.
