TikTok's ‘I'll Be There' Trend Hints at Teens' Obsessions (& Annoyances!) Right Now
The 'I'll Be There' trend utilizes a viral sound by 'Moldy Egg,' which features soft music and the words, 'Every night, at dinner, I'll be there. Every birthday part, I'll be there. Every Christmas, I'll be thereeeeee.' The sound itself comes from a clip from Boss Baby, where Boss Baby (voiced by Alec Baldwin) promises his older brother Tim Templeton that he will never be able to escape his younger sibling. Teens are using it to show the things they will never escape in their lives, too.

For example, one girl shared a video that says, 'How it feels to always have a double chin' set to the sound. She shares photos of herself from prom, graduation, and other places, then zooms in on her double chin during each of the 'I'll be there' parts of the sound.
Another teen jokes that she always has this accessory with her. 'pov you chronically wear your airpods,' she wrote over a video featuring pictures of her giving blood, dressing up, and even getting her driver license photo taken with an Airpod in her ears.
One girl with chapped lips said in a video, 'How it feels bringing Aquaphor EVERYWHERE.' On the football field after graduation, eating at a restaurant, going to the beach, and more, she had a tube of Aquaphor in her hands.
In the spirit of Boss Baby, another funny video showed her twin brother by her side all the time. 'being a twin means never having your own birthday party,' she wrote, alongside photos of her and her twin brother throughout childhood.
Realizing these little obsessions we have (or annoyances) is a great way to find the humor in life, and we love seeing the silly and funny side of teen culture right now.
Gen Z seems to be experts at finding old quotes from movies and TV shows and repurposing them into funny new trends. Like how teens are saying, 'start digging in your butt, twin,' from an old SpongeBob SquarePants episode or 'rhymes with Grug' from The Croods.

Splash pad in Davis that honors fallen police officer Natalie Corona opens
A splash pad is officially open, honoring fallen Davis police officer Natalie Corona six years after she was killed in the line of duty while responding to a crash in 2019. "She had a joyful spirit, that is the vibe and the energy that we see here today," said Deanne Machado, the parks director for the City of Davis. "So it is a perfect match to honor who she was and her spirit." The project was five years in the making. More than half a million dollars raised through community support brought the project to life. Local artists added personal touches in tilework as each piece was designed with the help of the people who knew Corona best. "There are so many easter egg moments in the tiles that represent stories that her friends, family, and the community know about," Machado said. Corona's best friend, Mariah Diaz, said when the water started flowing, memories flooded her mind. "It felt like that was me and her right there," Diaz said. "It was all meant to be. I truly feel her spirit here with us, she's looking down on us and has the biggest smile on her face." Her friends and colleagues at the Davis Police Department see the splash pad as a fitting tribute to the young officer who wanted to serve this community. "The closure of this project is sort of a symbolic closure of a really big chapter, too, but a joyful one," Machado said. The splash pad, located in Central Park in Davis, is free and will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily during the summer.

Greg Iles, Mississippi author of ‘Natchez Burning' trilogy, dies of cancer at 65
Greg Iles, the Mississippi author of the 'Natchez Burning' trilogy and other works, has died. He was 65. Iles died Friday after a decades-long battle with the blood cancer multiple myeloma, his literary agent Dan Conaway posted Saturday on Facebook. Initially diagnosed with the incurable condition in 1996, he kept his illness private until completing his final novel, 'Southern Man,' which was published in 2024. Iles was born in Germany but moved to Natchez, Mississippi, with his family when he was just three years old and developed a deep connection with the region. Many of his stories are set in Mississippi, including the 'Natchez Burning' trilogy, historical fiction suspense novels exploring race and class in the 1960s Jim Crow South. Conaway described Iles as 'warm, funny, fearless, and completely sui generis.' 'To be on the other end of the phone as he talked through character and plot, problem-solving on the fly, was to be witness to genius at work, plain and simple,' he wrote on Saturday. 'As a writer he fused story-craft, bone-deep humanity, and a growing sense of moral and political responsibility with the ferocious precisions of a whirling dervish or a master watchmaker.' In March 2011, Iles suffered a ruptured aorta and a partial leg amputation and spent eight days in a medically induced coma after another driver struck his car on Highway 61 near Natchez. He eventually recovered. Iles performed with the musical group The Rock Bottom Remainders along with popular authors Stephen King, Amy Tan and others.
