Former Texas A&M lefty promoted to Seattle Mariners' Triple-A affiliate

USA Today8 hours ago

The big-league news continues for the Texas A&M baseball program, as a former Aggie arm was promoted to the Seattle Mariners' Triple-A affiliate on Tuesday afternoon.
After he posted a 1.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts across 9.0 relief innings for the Double-A Arkansas Travelers, left-hander Brandyn Garcia got the call from the franchise to pack his bags and join the Tacoma Rainiers. Since being drafted by the Mariners with the No. 337 pick in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Garcia has secured a 10-7 record with a 2.50 ERA, 175 strikeouts and seven saves.
The 6-foot-4-inch lefty from Granby, Connecticut, began his collegiate career at Quinnipiac before transferring to Texas A&M ahead of the 2023 campaign. In his lone season in College Station, Garcia struck out 56 batters in 43.2 innings of work and posted a 5.56 ERA.
While his college numbers didn't jump off the page, Garcia flashed quality stuff out of the bullpen and showed consistent improvement during his stint with the Aggies. Before stepping onto a college diamond, he was ranked as the No. 48 overall player in Connecticut via Perfect Game USA.
Since joining the Mariners' organization, he has rapidly climbed the minor league ranks and continues to prove his value as a reliever. In a recent outing against the Wichita Wind Surge, Garcia entered in relief and immediately made a statement, securing the victory for Arkansas.
He might not be the most flashy pitcher in the MiLB, but Garcia's stuff gets the job done. His confidence on the mound speaks volumes, proven by his incredible performances during his time with the Travelers. Now, it is time for Garcia to show what he can do on the next big stage with the Rainiers.

Aaron Rodgers says DK Metcalf influenced his decision to join Steelers

DK Metcalf is one of the most exciting Steelers acquisitions this offseason — but he apparently helped bring a certain four-time MVP to the Steel City. On Tuesday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, new Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers revealed that Metcalf — and his work ethic — played a role in getting him to Pittsburgh: "DK is a lead-by-example guy,' Rodgers said. 'He's a big reason I'm in Pittsburgh as well — conversations that we had and just the kind of person that he is. At the start of the year, I didn't really know DK at all. He's like, 'I work out at six a.m. every day.' I'm like, okay, this guy has discipline, this guy has a drive. I said, 'How about eight o'clock because I'm gonna have to drive from Malibu to UCLA?' He said, 'Yeah, that's fine.' He's not just a specimen, but he's a really solid human being. He's a solid, solid dude, and he leads by example.' It's this apparent 'lead-by-example' attitude from Metcalf — coupled with Rodgers' admiration of HC Mike Tomlin — that helped piece together the exciting QB-WR duo in Pittsburgh. Fever vs Storm: How many points did Caitlin Clark score tonight?

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark's shooting slump continued on Tuesday night. After shooting just 1-of-17 from 3-point range in consecutive losses at Golden State and Las Vegas, Clark struggled through another icy shooting night from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. Clark misfired on all six of her 3-point tries at Seattle and finished just 3-of-13 from the floor overall. The 6-foot guard finished with a season-low six points. Clark did register nine assists and three steals and the Fever won 94-86 over Seattle to move back to .500 on the season at 7-7. But, turnovers were also a problem as Clark finished with eight. Indiana was led by forward Aliyah Boston's 31 points on 13-of-18 shooting and guard Kelsey Mitchell's 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-7 3-pointers. Fever guard Lexie Hull and forward Damiris Dantas each finished in double-figures as well with 15 and 10 points, respectively. It was a drama-laden day for Indiana as reports surfaced that two-time WNBA champion and six-time All-Star DeWanna Bonner isn't planning to return to the Fever. Bonner was one of Indiana's prized offseason signings on a one-year, $200,000 deal. But, the 37-year-old veteran forward may be exiting Indiana after just nine games played and three starts. Bonner has missed each of the past five Fever games and is currently averaging 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds on a career-worst 34.5% field goal shooting. LSU Football Preview 2025: Brian Kelly Has Been Better Than You Think

It's so easy to dunk on Brian Jesus knows, Notre Dame fans love to spend their idle time doing just that, as they meme away about how their program is rocking and rolling under Marcus Freeman, while LSU played for the Texas provides plenty of material with a screamy rant here, a punched table there, and a few goofy-fun things to lighten the mood. Such is the life of being a high-profile head coach at a school that demands national titles, or at least College Football Playoff appearances. But Kelly has been better so far than he gets credit for ... sort of. X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN LSU Offense BreakdownLSU Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to SeasonLSU has yet to win an SEC Championship, and it hasn't been all that close to winning a national title. It got to the 2022 title game and lost to Georgia 50-30, right after losing to a Texas A&M team that finished with a losing is 0-3 now at LSU in season openers, last year's team collapsed just when it was time to kick it in, the defenses haven't been great, and … Nick Saban went 28-12 in his first three seasons at LSU. Brian Kelly is three seasons, Kelly has half as many double-digit win runs at LSU as Kentucky has enjoyed in 109 years of college football, half as many as South Carolina has put up in 117 seasons, one fewer than Mississippi State has logged in 120 years, two more than the none from Vanderbilt in its football history, as many as Auburn has scored since the 2010 national title campaign, and …Texas A&M has as many double-digit win seasons since leaving the Southwest Conference as Brian Kelly has cranked out in the last three years. There's a LOT to criticize Brian Kelly about - I can not believe how much I defend him - but the dude is the winningest head football coach at the University of Notre Dame, and last year was the first in eight seasons that he didn't win double-digit games - he won just about any other school, considering the crash at the end of the Ed Orgeron era, there would be statues created for a coach who won 39 games with three bowl victories - and a Heisman winner - in his first three years. But this is LSU. The school's last three head coaches all won national titles. Orgeron did it in his fourth full season. Les Miles won it all in Year Three, but Saban did it in his fourth is Brian Kelly's fourth season in Baton Rouge. It's National Championship Winning time.(Or, by any reasonable standard, at least get to the College Football Playoff.)
