Uttarakhand flash floods: 164 airlifted from Dharali and Harshil to ITBP Matli; SDRF searches for stranded survivors
According to the Uttarakhand government, a total of 164 people have been brought from Dharali-Harshil to the ITBP Matli helipad.
Officials told ANI that all essential items are being delivered to the affected areas by helicopter, while those rescued are receiving first aid before being safely sent to their destinations, as per their convenience.
The state government said that, along with rescue teams, the availability of all types of relief material is being ensured in the disaster-affected areas of Harshil-Dharali.
Under 'Operation Dharali', the Army has successfully restored mobile and internet connectivity in Harsil by repairing an optical fibre cable, originally meant for Army communication, that was damaged by the floods.
Army signalers carried out the work in the middle of ongoing rescue operations, restoring a critical communication lifeline to the area.
In another major effort, bridges near Limchigad, close to Harsil, that had been destroyed by the floods were repaired at night on August 8, despite heavy rain. The repairs were carried out jointly by Army personnel and the civil administration to restore road connectivity.
Four days after the floods hit, a total of 566 people had been evacuated from the affected areas by Friday noon.

Rescue operations are still under way for another 300 people who remain stranded.
At least five people have lost their lives and 50 others are still missing. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is using advanced tools, including a victim locating camera and a thermal imaging camera, to search for survivors. Dog squads are also assisting the teams on the ground.
While the mobile network in Harsil valley has been restored, landslides triggered by the disaster have disrupted the Char Dham Yatra.

The flash floods in Uttarkashi have left many locals homeless, sweeping away people, houses, and entire families. Adding to their distress was the issuance of Rs 5,000 cheques as 'immediate relief" on Friday—an amount many felt was grossly inadequate given the scale of the tragedy. According to a report by The Times Of India, several people refused to accept it and called it an 'insult" to their 'suffering". 'We have lost everything: our families, homes, businesses worth crores. This amount is an insult," one villager was quoted as saying. The area has no electricity, and they received candles four days after the disaster battered the place. 'We spent those nights in darkness. Used firewood to heat food. Govt talks about ration, but that, too, has not reached us. We had to go door to door looking for it," one of the villagers said. This also sparked a protest as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced Rs 5 lakh compensation. Speaking to ANI on Saturday, CM Dhami asserted, 'More than 1000 people have been rescued. All the devotees and pilgrims from all across the country, who were stuck there, have been rescued… All the injured people have been shifted to hospitals. Connectivity was completely destroyed in Harsil. It was restored there yesterday. A Bailey bridge will be installed by evening near Lachi Gad, which will help reconstruct roads till Harsil." He added, 'We have decided to provide affected families with rations for the next six months… A three-member committee is being formed under the chairmanship of the Revenue Secretary… They will see how the affected family can be rehabilitated and the extent of the loss incurred… We will also provide a relief package to those in need." Earlier on Saturday, CM Dhami met the state Governor, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Gurmit Singh at Raj Bhavan in Dehradun to take stock of the situation. In a post on X, Dhami wrote, 'I met the Honourable Governor @LtGenGurmit (Retd.) at Raj Bhavan. At least 15 workers injured as under-construction structure collapses in Maharashtra's Nagpur
At least 15 workers were injured on Saturday when a part of an under-construction gate collapsed on the Khaparkheda–Koradi Temple route in Maharashtra's Nagpur. Inspector Krupal Mule of the 5th Battalion, Pune NDRF, said the structure had already collapsed when their team reached the site.(ANI) Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) Chairman Sanjay Meena said the rescue and clearance operations are ongoing. The initial reports suggest that the vibrations from the construction equipment may have triggered the collapse, he said, adding that no fatalities have been reported so far. '15-16 people were injured. There are no grievous injuries. They are in the hospital. The collector has given his official statement. Construction work of Koradi temple was ongoing here. Contractors under NMRDA were working here. How this happened can be spoken about only after a complete inquiry. We will have a detailed inquiry. There are no casualties so far,' Sanjay Meena said. The NDRF and police have commenced a rescue operation and clearing a huge pile of debris. The incident occurred between 8.00 and 8.15 pm on the Khaparkheda–Koradi Temple road. Nagpur district magistrate Vipin Itankar told ANI, 'When RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) for the slab was being put in, it collapsed. The labourers who were working suffered minor injuries. They were 15-16 in number. Some have been shifted to Nandini Hospital, and some to Max Hospital.' NDRF says it has rescued all trapped people Nagpur district magistrate said, 'As per protocol, NDRF, Police Department and Revenue Department are present here. The debris is being removed with the help of machines.' He also appealed to the public not to circulate misinformation. 'I have a request that the rumours should not be spread that there are so many 50 people, 15-16 have been shifted and have minor injuries, and the work of removing the debris is going on.' Inspector Krupal Mule of the 5th Battalion, Pune NDRF, said the structure had already collapsed when their team reached the site. Mule told ANI, 'When the team of 5 Battalion NDRF reached here, the structure had completely collapsed. When we asked, we were told that everyone who was working here was injured, but all of them were rescued. Nobody was found trapped here. We first conducted a physical search here, followed by a canine search. There doesn't seem to be anyone trapped here so far. But we will first have to clear the debris, and only after that can a comment be made…' When asked about the cause of the collapse, he said, 'It is being said that construction work was ongoing and due to vibrations (of equipment), it all collapsed at once. Assam: 5.2 hectares of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary cleared of Parthenium
Morigaon (Assam) [India], August 10 (ANI): As a part of a three-day campaign of Parthenium Free Pobitora, on the first day on Saturday, about a 5.2 hectares area of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam's Morigaon district was cleared of Parthenium or Congress grass, an invasive weed, by the forest to the authorities of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, about 40 forest staff members of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary were led by Range Officer Pranjal Baruah within six hours of Invasive Alien Species (IASE) Eradication Drive.'Special precautions have been taken for the forest staff to get rid of the parthenium allergy during the drive. On August 10, the team will carry out a special drive to eradicate Parthenium from the Tamuliduva area with Members of EDCs and Pobitora Jeep Safari Association," Pranjal Baruah, Range Officer of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, further said that special emphasis has been given by the Wildlife Sanctuary authority for improving the habitat of Rhinos and other animals of the Sanctuary by way of weed eradication, soil moisture conservation, etc, so that the carrying capacity of the ecosystem can be Wildlife Sanctuary is known for holding the highest density of great one-horned rhinoceroses in the to the data of the last rhino population census conducted in 2022, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is home to 107 Indian one-horned rhinoceroses, and the wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 38.81 sq km.
