Rekha Gupta plants sindoor sapling at Govt school
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday planted a 'sindoor' sapling at a government school in her Shalimar Bagh constituency as part of a government campaign on planting trees. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had planted a 'sindoor' sapling, presented to him by a group of women who had ‹shown remarkable courage during the 1971 war, at his residence on World Environment Day on June 5. The gesture was seen as a nod to the recent Operation Sindoor. Gupta said, 'Our prime minister had planted a 'sindoor' sapling. I also wanted to do the same. It is as if God heard my prayers. Today morning during a public hearing, some people gifted me a 'sindoor' sapling. I planted it to kickstart the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign 2.0,' she said. The chief minister thanked Modi and the armed forces for Operation Sindoor. 'Our armed forces and Modiji kept the dignity of our sisters. I would like to thank them for launching this operation,' she added. India named its military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack Operation Sindoor as the terrorists had gunned down 26 civilians, all men and mostly tourists, and the devastated wives of several of the victims became the face of the tragedy. Gupta said the previous AAP government did not plant trees as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign in Delhi. 'The campaign is aimed at protecting our environment. We are launching this campaign,' she added. Under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, people plant trees in the name of their mothers -- a symbolic gesture to honour the role of mothers in nurturing life and address the pressing need for environmental preservation. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasised the importance of the campaign and criticised the inaction of the previous Delhi administration. The symbolic act of planting trees under this initiative is not just an environmental measure but also a tribute to mothers and Mother Earth. It reflects the government's renewed commitment to sustainability and ecological preservation. Earlier, on World Environment Day (5th June), the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' was officially launched as the second phase of a movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The campaign encourages every citizen to plant a tree in the name of their mother or Mother Earth. This year, the initiative will run from June 5 to September 30, with an ambitious target: each school is expected to plant at least 70 saplings. The designated areas for plantation include school campuses, nearby open lands, village panchayat-marked zones, areas near water bodies, public spaces, parks, smart city zones, city forests, green belts, and roadsides.

A big heartfelt thank you to all those who took the time to watch my 4 hour plus podcast with @rajshamani 20 million views on YouTube alone in 4 days and god knows how many more reposts on Instagram and… — Vijay Mallya (@TheVijayMallya) June 9, 2025 Mallya, who has been living in the United Kingdom since March 2016, had said in the podcast that he would 'seriously consider' returning to India if he is assured of a fair trial and a dignified existence in his home country. With nearly a million views, Mallya's latest post quickly gained traction and prompted mixed reactions. 'You deserve justice. Let's see when GOI support you. Good luck,' a user wrote. 'If you are really innocent a toy claim, hire the best lawyer, approach SC, and get a clean chit. You can then come back proudly with your head held high,' another user commented. 'You will always be remembered as a clown. That podcast had zero impact on mature people, only underage RCB fans might have believed it,' a third user reacted. A key accused in a major bank loan default case involving over Rs 9,000 crore linked to the Kingfisher Airlines, Mallya fled from India in 2016. He faces serious allegations of cheating, criminal conspiracy, money laundering, and the misuse of loan funds provided by a union of Indian banks, led by the State Bank of India (SBI). ‘Mai pagal nahi hun': Indian student ‘mercilessly pulled, cuffed and tied' at US Airport, Indian Consulate reacts

The post shows the Indian national pinned to the floor and handcuffed in the airport premises. The incident may have happened around June 7. An X user said in a June 8 post that he witnessed "a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night— handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal." "He came chasing dreams, not causing harm. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken. This is a human tragedy," the user said. He shared some videos and sought the Indian embassy's help in reconciling him with his parents. The harrowing visuals showed the student pinned to the ground as at least four officials held him down. "This poor guy was speaking in Haryanvi language. I could recognise his accent where he was saying 'में पागल नहीं हूँ , ये लोग मुझे पागल साबित करने में लगे हुए हे [I am not mad, there are trying to prove that I am mad],' the user posted in a series of tweets. The student seems "disoriented" during the incident. "This poor kids parent won't know what's happening to him. @IndianEmbassyUS @DrSJaishankar he was to be boarded last night in the same flight with me but he never got boarded. Someone needs to find out what's going on with him at New Jersey authorities. I found him disoriented," the X user said. As the Indian Consulate General took notice of the incident, the witness said in another post, 'This is the power of people! We need this kid back safely ot his parents. thats all. His poor face is still haunting me every moment, and I refuse to rest until I know his current status." "They mercilessly pulled him with both hands and legs, cuffed and tied,' the witness alleged. The Consulate General of India in New York posted on X, saying, "We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard." "The Consulate remains ever committed for the welfare of Indian Nationals," the statement added.
