Scotland's best pub named in prestigious hospitality awards
The Vengaboys and BGT star Vinnie McKee wowed guests with surprise performances at the awards ceremony in Glasgow
Glasgow stole the spotlight at this year's Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, with venues across the city picking up top accolades in what has become one of Scotland's most prestigious celebrations of nightlife and dining.
Among the standout winners were The Scallion in the city's West End, which was crowned Best Pub in Scotland, while the likes of BAaD, RED Sky Bar and Berlinkys also clinched key titles.
It wasn't just a Glasgow affair though. Ayr's Spudbuds, Aberdeen's Codona's and The Craftsman Company, The Golf Inn in Ladybank and The Bawbee in Stirling also walked away with honours.
The ceremony, held at Glasgow's DoubleTree by Hilton, brought in global pop icons The Vengaboys for a surprise live set, alongside a show-stopping performance from viral Britain's Got Talent finalist Vinnie McKee.
But the biggest applause of the night was reserved for hospitality legend Donald MacLeod, who received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long-standing impact on Scotland's entertainment scene.
Warren Paul, Director of the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards and the force behind several of the country's major award platforms, said the event was a vital chance to show appreciation for an industry under pressure.
'Congratulations to all who have won or come close especially and of course to Donald who has done and continues to do so much for hospitality and entertainment in Scotland,' he said.
'It is a very tough time for everyone right now but it does seem the hospitality industry are really feeling the heat – people simply don't have the money to go out as often as they did, or they're scared to spend the money they do have.
'We need to socialise, we need that break and to let off steam, escape all the day to day worries, and that's what our friends in hospitality provide.
'With many closures and difficulties, it's important to recognise those who go above and beyond to give the public that chance to zone out, relax and de-stress.
'That's what these awards are for, it's a nod and a thank you from the public to the place and people they appreciate, those who do it better than the rest or just offer something really special.
'So while we have big names performing here tonight, the real stars are the award winners from all over Scotland, venues and businesses who stand out every single day and night.
'Thank you to every winner, every highly recommended and every business who perhaps hasn't won tonight but is out there working hard every day to support us all, sadly there can be only one winner in each category and some are very close.'
Winners were determined through a mix of public voting and nominations, alongside visits from the judging panel, making each award a reflection of customer satisfaction and excellence.
Other winners included Best Day Out for Codona's in Aberdeen, Best Casual Dining for Our Place in Annan, and Best Team for Tempura in Ayr. McGoldricks Pool & Sports Bar in Rutherglen took home Best Sports Bar, while Cheers Bar in Coatbridge was named Best Music Venue.
BAaD, Barras Art and Design, was awarded Best Outdoor Space and newcomer Turkiye Efes in Uddingston won Best Newcomer.
Charcoals was recognised for Best Social Responsibility, while Hollywood Bowl Glasgow at Springfield Quay scooped Best Eco Friendly Venue. Trattoria Roma was named Best Family Restaurant.
Spudbuds in Ayr added another trophy to their growing collection by taking Best Takeaway, while CRU Hospitality was named Best Hospitality Employer. The Northern Way in Paisley won Best World Beer and Mini Grill Scottish Steakhouse was named Best Restaurant.
Other winners included Berlinkys for Best Late Night Venue, The Vault at Angels for Best Events Venue, and RED Sky Bar at the Radisson for Best Hotel Bar. St Machar Bar took home Best Speciality Spirit Bar.
Best Independent Bar awards went to The Craftsman Company in the North, Golf Inn Ladybank in the East, and The Smoking Goat Bar & Grill in the West.
Warren added: 'We have winners, highly recommended and indeed entrants from every corner of the country, but it does appear Glasgow's hospitality sector has really delivered in the eyes of customers and voters this time around.
'Congratulations to everyone recognised by the public and therefore by our awards, these titles really do mean a lot, thank you everyone who voted, and really everyone who has helped support the industry in these difficult times.
'There are amazing places all over Scotland waiting to welcome you and help discover next year's winners, we look forward to hearing from you all.'

A BBC presenter of 15 years has announced their extended break from their show after an 'incredibly rare' cancer diagnosis. Bryan Burnett, 59, presents the early evening Get it On show on BBC Radio Scotland weekdays from 6pm. The broadcaster, from Abderdeen, revealed on Thursday to his listeners that he had been diagnosed with appendiceal cancer earlier this year. Appendiceal cancer, or appendix cancer, is a type of cancer that grows from cells in the appendix — a small finger-shaped pouch at the end of the large intestine. Bryan will undergo treatment including chemotherapy and abdominal surgery. While the host recovers, his step-in presenter will be Grant Stott. He added: 'When they removed my appendix recently, they discovered a tumour and appendix cancer is incredibly rare but the good news is it is treatable but I do have to have some fairly hefty abdominal surgery next week.' Speaking about what he gone through in recent weeks, Bryan said: 'I've experienced the most incredible care and kindness from the NHS staff who have been looking after me. 'My surgeon is a Get it On listener so I know I'm in good hands. 'I will really miss the music and the chat when I'm off but our listeners have given me hundreds of great playlists so that will keep me going over the next few months.' He added: 'I want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all my brilliant producers for all the hand holding and all the encouragement they've given me since they found out my news. 'I'm sure they'll let you know how I'm doing over the next few weeks.' Bryan has worked with the Beeb for a number of years, and in particular BBC Radio Scotland. But his career started at Northsound Radio in Aberdeen. Bryan also presented the Top 40 chart show for Radio Clyde in Glasgow. The 2 Johnnies launched Pints in a Field 3 on the back of a Number One album, their fourth consecutive sold-out 3 Arena show and some amazing press reviews for their TV show Late Night Lock In. The third rendition of the show will bring The 2 Johnnies and The Junior B All Stars with special guests Vengaboys, Basshunter and many more, with music, comedy and guest appearances expected. Advertisement So, if you are headed to St Anne's Park for some Pints in a Field on Saturday, keep reading to find out everything you need to know. When and where is it on? The 2 Johnnies will take over St Anne's Park, Clontarf, Dublin on Saturday, June 7th 2025, for Pints in a Field 3, with doors opening at 5pm. When we get the official stage times, we will update this article with them. Are there tickets left? There are some tickets still available on so if you're interested in going, you can get them now. Concertgoers are advised to buy tickets from accredited sources only. Who are playing? The 2 Johnnies will of course perform, as will special guests the Vengaboys, Basshunter, Jimmy Buckley, Noel Furlong, and more. When should I arrive? Allow at least an extra two hours travel time to and from the venue. That means, allow two hours on top of the time Google Maps is telling you it will take. Advertisement When you get to either of the two entrances, you will have to walk an extra roughly 1.3km from the park entrance to the ticket scan/entry. There are two entrances: The green entrance is on Sybil Hill onto the main avenue, and the Blue entrance is on All Saints Road via Tennis Court entry. St Anne's Park is a residential area – organisers have appealed to all concertgoers to respect the local community by not littering, engaging in antisocial behaviour or parking illegally. Advertisement How do I get there and home again? Plan and book your travel arrangements in advance, allowing at least an extra two hours travel time to and from the venue. As traffic delays are inevitable, fans are encouraged by promoters to walk, cycle, use public transport and private coach services. By DART: The nearest DART station is Harmonstown Dart Station and they will run services to and from the concerts each day. By car: There is no public parking at the event, and car parks in St Anne's are not open to the public during events, so promoters have asked fans to use public transport and not to park illegaly or in residential areas as clamping will be in operation. By bus: You can get Dublin Bus No 6, H1, H2, and H3 to the venue from Abbey Street Lower. Marathon Coaches are also running return buses to and from the City Centre to St Anne's Park for the concert. Buses leave from Northwall Quay Bus Stop 7623 at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm on the day of the concert and drop off at St Paul's School, Clontarf. Return buses will be leaving the coach park at 11pm sharp. What's the story with security? Under-16s attending the concert must be accompanied at all times by an adult over 25. Unaccompanied under-16s will be refused entry without refund. Pints in a Field is a strictly 14 years and older event. No queuing is allowed prior to the gates opening, and attendees are advised to allow time for security checks on the way in. If you do turn up early, you will be turned away at restricted area points around the event site. Regardless, you should aim to be within the venue 30 minutes before the show starts. Advertisement Bags larger than A4 size will not be permitted. All bags may be searched, and this can be time-consuming, so consider going bagless for easier entry. There will be no cloakroom or storage facilities. No alcohol or food is allowed into the arena. Other banned items at the event include – but are not exclusive to – umbrellas, garden furniture, camping chairs, e-scooters, e-bikes, selfie sticks, flares, glasses or cans. There is also no re-admission to the concert, so if you leave, you cannot re-enter. Can I take photos at the concert? Smartphones and small digital cameras are permitted, but cameras with long or detachable lenses or recording equipment are not. GoPros and iPads are also prohibited. What's the weather giving? At the time of writing, rain and showers are expected a lot of Saturday, with temperatures ranging between 9 and 14 degrees. St Anne's Park is a standing-only venue, and all gigs take place outdoors on grass, so regardless of the forecast, dress accordingly for Irish weather – think wellies, boots or runners, layers, raincoats/ponchos and suncream.
