Scotland's best pub named in prestigious hospitality awards
Glasgow stole the spotlight at this year's Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, with venues across the city picking up top accolades in what has become one of Scotland's most prestigious celebrations of nightlife and dining.
Among the standout winners were The Scallion in the city's West End, which was crowned Best Pub in Scotland, while the likes of BAaD, RED Sky Bar and Berlinkys also clinched key titles.
It wasn't just a Glasgow affair though. Ayr's Spudbuds, Aberdeen's Codona's and The Craftsman Company, The Golf Inn in Ladybank and The Bawbee in Stirling also walked away with honours.
The ceremony, held at Glasgow's DoubleTree by Hilton, brought in global pop icons The Vengaboys for a surprise live set, alongside a show-stopping performance from viral Britain's Got Talent finalist Vinnie McKee.
But the biggest applause of the night was reserved for hospitality legend Donald MacLeod, who received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long-standing impact on Scotland's entertainment scene.
Warren Paul, Director of the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards and the force behind several of the country's major award platforms, said the event was a vital chance to show appreciation for an industry under pressure.
'Congratulations to all who have won or come close especially and of course to Donald who has done and continues to do so much for hospitality and entertainment in Scotland,' he said.
'It is a very tough time for everyone right now but it does seem the hospitality industry are really feeling the heat – people simply don't have the money to go out as often as they did, or they're scared to spend the money they do have.
'We need to socialise, we need that break and to let off steam, escape all the day to day worries, and that's what our friends in hospitality provide.
'With many closures and difficulties, it's important to recognise those who go above and beyond to give the public that chance to zone out, relax and de-stress.
'That's what these awards are for, it's a nod and a thank you from the public to the place and people they appreciate, those who do it better than the rest or just offer something really special.
'So while we have big names performing here tonight, the real stars are the award winners from all over Scotland, venues and businesses who stand out every single day and night.
'Thank you to every winner, every highly recommended and every business who perhaps hasn't won tonight but is out there working hard every day to support us all, sadly there can be only one winner in each category and some are very close.'
Winners were determined through a mix of public voting and nominations, alongside visits from the judging panel, making each award a reflection of customer satisfaction and excellence.
Other winners included Best Day Out for Codona's in Aberdeen, Best Casual Dining for Our Place in Annan, and Best Team for Tempura in Ayr. McGoldricks Pool & Sports Bar in Rutherglen took home Best Sports Bar, while Cheers Bar in Coatbridge was named Best Music Venue.
BAaD, Barras Art and Design, was awarded Best Outdoor Space and newcomer Turkiye Efes in Uddingston won Best Newcomer.
Charcoals was recognised for Best Social Responsibility, while Hollywood Bowl Glasgow at Springfield Quay scooped Best Eco Friendly Venue. Trattoria Roma was named Best Family Restaurant.
Spudbuds in Ayr added another trophy to their growing collection by taking Best Takeaway, while CRU Hospitality was named Best Hospitality Employer. The Northern Way in Paisley won Best World Beer and Mini Grill Scottish Steakhouse was named Best Restaurant.
Other winners included Berlinkys for Best Late Night Venue, The Vault at Angels for Best Events Venue, and RED Sky Bar at the Radisson for Best Hotel Bar. St Machar Bar took home Best Speciality Spirit Bar.
Best Independent Bar awards went to The Craftsman Company in the North, Golf Inn Ladybank in the East, and The Smoking Goat Bar & Grill in the West.
Warren added: 'We have winners, highly recommended and indeed entrants from every corner of the country, but it does appear Glasgow's hospitality sector has really delivered in the eyes of customers and voters this time around.
'Congratulations to everyone recognised by the public and therefore by our awards, these titles really do mean a lot, thank you everyone who voted, and really everyone who has helped support the industry in these difficult times.
'There are amazing places all over Scotland waiting to welcome you and help discover next year's winners, we look forward to hearing from you all.'

Strictly's La Voix is already getting hate – and the reason is depressing
Finally, Strictly Come Dancing has its first drag queen contestant in a regular season – La Voix. Real name Chris Dennis, the 45-year-old Drag Race star is reality TV royalty and the perfect choice to throw the first heel and wig through the glass ceiling of Strictly. She competed on RuPaul's Drag Race UK just last year, but has long been an icon in the community — easily one of the most well-known queens in the country. Unfortunately, the predictable hate she's received just for being her loud and proud self is a sign of the awful times we live in now. I truly hope it doesn't get to her, and that she can make history on the BBC's flagship entertainment show. I was familiar with La Voix before Drag Race. She'd competed on Britain's Got Talent in 2014, reaching the semi-finals with the London Gay Band — long before drag was as popular in the UK as it is now. Even without the platform that is Drag Race, she still managed to land big TV gigs on WOW's Queen of the Universe and ITV's Queens For The Night. But I didn't truly know her until Drag Race. I knew the name, but I didn't know the full extent of the talent. To say she was robbed of winning her series feels unfair – given the innovation and brilliant mind of champion Kyran Thrax — but La Voix was one of the best queens Drag Race has ever seen, on either side of the Atlantic. She's going to bowl Strictly fans over, if not with her moves, then with her soft heart and. La Voix is a triple-threat performer — dancer, singer, and actor — and has the sharpest humour of anyone who's taken to the BBC ballroom. But the importance of her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing can't be underestimated, even if it feels long overdue. In 2019, Courtney Act made history as the first ever drag queen on Australia's version of Strictly, called Dancing with the Stars. Unsurprisingly to anyone who watched her on Drag Race, she was sensational and an enormous hit with viewers, finishing in second place with her partner Joshua Keefe. It wasn't until a year later that Strictly welcomed its first same-sex couple, Nicola Adams and Katya Jones, then John Whaite and Johannes Radebe the year after that. Then on Christmas Day last year, Drag Race's Tayce competed in the show's annual one-off special. Not only was she absolutely sensational — she won. The latter is watched by so many more viewers and their names become fixed in people's homes for months. If there hadn't been a drag queen in this series, it would have felt like a kick in the teeth. It's a shame Tayce wasn't invited back — not only for the viewers' benefit, but because she clearly deserved it too. But thank god for La Voix, who will be the perfect representative of the drag community — a queen who was destined for Saturday night telly. And it's needed now more than ever. The drag community has been under attack for years. As soon as the culture started to become mainstream – through drag brunches and drag queen story time – it was deemed a threat to society. It's a heartbreaking battle and it's nowhere near over. Earlier this month, two drag queens were escorted out of a library by police because the overbearing chants of protesters won. Lady Portia Di'Monte — known as 'Northern Ireland's First Lady of Drag' — and Miss Dora Belle were booked by the library to read to children. Many parents would have taken their children specifically for drag story time, and I have no doubt their kids loved every second of it. But no matter how harmless — even beautiful — drag proves itself to be, its protesters seem to win more and more. Northern Ireland's Communities Minister, Gordon Lyons, later said the event was 'not appropriate for children' and 'should not have taken place'. The queens were reading The Chronicles of Narnia and Dear Zoo, yet they were treated as though they were performing explicit excerpts from gay erotica. I don't think any of the comments on the BBC's announcement are worth repeating — we've heard them time and time again — but they were devastatingly predictable. I'm thrilled the BBC is making a statement with this line-up — that it won't bow down to the loud minority who complain week after week, pitchforks sharpened, that La Voix has no right to be on its biggest show. A show that is camp as Christmas and celebrates diversity more than any other. But I hate that it's still a statement at all. I'm so tired of the LGBTQ+ community — particularly the drag and trans community — being a statement simply by existing. More Trending I hate that the response to La Voix taking part in a dance contest was so predictable. Thank god she has the resilience of a warrior. Perhaps if Strictly Come Dancing had welcomed a drag queen to the stage sooner, there would be many viewers who haven't experienced the joy of drag that might have been won over by now. Six years behind its Australian counterpart feels like a long time, but at least it is time. The club has used an album cover from one of the local area's most-celebrated bands as the foundation for the design of the shirt. Dunfermline punk heroes Skids emerged from the city in 1979 with Scared to Dance, which spawned hit singles such as Into the Valley and The Saints Are Coming. To this day, Dunfermline Athletic run out to Into the Valley on matchday and the band is a firm favourite for many in the fanbase. To celebrate the club's connection with the rock group, the Championship side have unveiled a new kit based on the cover of Scared to Dance. It will act as the team's third kit, with a classic black and white striped number in use for the home strip and this season's away shirt a black and yellow striped affair. The top for the third kit takes on the blue marble flooring from the album cover, while the next features the iconic red logo of the band. Needless to say, the East End Park faithful are absolutely loving the new strip. One said: "Oh my god it is beautiful, an all timer. "Absolutely belting album as well." Another said: "A unique design and the club are to be applauded for creating a kit that is so strongly linked to the city and its music. Prefer this bold approach over some catalogue top with a Pars badge stuck on." But supporters from other clubs are approving of it too - even rival fans. Moment Aberdeen & Dunfermline fans join together to pay tribute to legendary former manager Jimmy Calderwood Scots novelist Ian Rankin - who supports Dunfermline's arch rivals, Raith Rovers - said: "As a Raith Rovers fan, even I think this is damned cool…" And a Cowdenbeath fan quipped: "I really want to hate this but it's a thing of beauty. B******." Some think the new top could start a trend... "Absolutely on board with kits based on album covers," said one fan. While this Rangers supporter said: "Every club should do this. Aberdeen with an Annie Lennox top, Queen of the South with a Calvin Harris inspired number." Another Gers fan called it "outstanding" while a Celtic supporter said it was "sensational". Before a Hearts fan said: "I actually really like that. Errea has done good work on that." While an Airdrie supporter commented: "I'm here as an Airdrie fan to say this is absolutely magnificent and I'm sorely tempted to buy one even though I'm an auld bloke who doesn't even wear fitba jerseys anymore." From further afield Bristol City supporter commented: "Absolute class. Well done Dunfermline Athletic!" And an Ipswich Town fan told their club "This is how you do a shirt!" A news article on the club's website read: "Dunfermline Athletic is delighted to reveal our third kit for season 2025/26. "The Pars, to this day, run out to 'Into The Valley' by the Skids, and our third kit pays the ultimate homage to one of the greatest bands to come out of Dunfermline. "Released in February 1979, the debut studio album from the punk rock band featured an iconic artwork featuring a blue marble flooring that has been transformed into the body of the new shirt. "Our club badge is colour-matched to the marble pattern behind for a sleek modern finish, with the Errea logo embroidered in dark blue. "The shirt is finished with Errea's usual high-quality finishes. Our collar trim carries the message 'Identity, Unity, Passion', taken from messaging in a Section North West banner. "The rear of the neck features the iconic red 'Skids' logo, and the inside of the neck features a copy of Skids frontman Richard Jobson's handwritten title. "A portion of the profits from each shirt sold will support the work of the White Ribbon Campaign in Dunfermline. The White Ribbon campaign in Dunfermline, and throughout Fife, is part of a global effort to end men's violence against women. The campaign encourages individuals, especially men and boys, to pledge to never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women. "Club partners continue as our front-of-shirt sponsor, with an all-white version of their logo to support the sleek look of the shirt. Our continued thanks go to the team at "As per the home and away shirts, KDM Group will feature on the junior editions of the shirts, and the mini kits will be sponsorless. "To go with the away shirt, we pair up dark blue with marble blue trim and matching dark blue socks. "From a technical point of view, the shirt is made with sublimation printing, a process that ensures high-quality and long-lasting graphics, and like all Erreà Sport products, the shirt is certified according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100, a certification that sets extremely stringent limitations on the use of substances that can be harmful to health. Susan Boyle sends message to Liam Gallagher after Oasis show
The Wonderwall hitmakers were performing in Edinburgh for three days, as part of their only Scottish shows on the Oasis Live '25 Tour. They performed in the capital on August 8, 9 and 12. During their performance on August 12, Liam Gallagher dedicated a song to the Britain's Got Talent star. Taking to Instagram, she said: "Thanks so much for the dedication, Liam Gallagher. You've made this old girl's day. "Hope to see you and the rest of Oasis at Wembley in September for a wee bit of Poznan. Big love to you all." Boyle, 63, posed for a photo to go along with the caption. In the picture, she donned an Oasis top as well as a bucket hat.
