Couple arrested for stealing fire hydrant nozzles in Semenyih
Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that investigations revealed the missing nozzles were taken from the fifth to the 17th floors of the building. 'A CCTV recording from a nearby house, which went viral on social media on July 23, helped police identify and arrest the suspects,' he said in a statement.
The suspects, aged 43 and 44, were detained at 10.30 pm yesterday. Initial investigations showed that the male suspect has seven prior narcotics-related records and one criminal record, while the female suspect has eight narcotics-related and five criminal records. Both also tested positive for methamphetamine.
The couple has been remanded for three days to assist in investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Karunagaran at 012-244 9414 or the nearest police station. - Bernama

KUALA TERENGGANU: Three local authority officers in Terengganu have been remanded for six days for allegedly accepting bribes totalling RM25,000 in exchange for facilitating the approval process of building plans. The remand order until Saturday (Aug 2) was issued by Magistrate Yuhanis Mohd Roslan after allowing an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). A source said on Monday (July 28) that the suspects, two men and a woman aged between 40 and 50, were detained at 2.30pm on Sunday (July 27) when they turned up to give their statements at the Terengganu MACC office. "Initial investigations found that the three suspects allegedly committed the offences between 2015 and 2019. "They are believed to have received bribes amounting to about RM25,000 through separate fund transfers into their respective personal bank accounts,' the source said, adding that the alleged bribes involved 14 projects. The source also said the arrests followed the detention of a government agency director in January over a bribery case involving some RM900,000. State MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrests when contacted, saying the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. Fake Datuk titles: Undang Luak Johol sounds legal warning
KUALA LUMPUR: The office of the Johol ruling chief (Balai Undang Luak Johol) said today that three individuals were found misusing false Datukship titles, supported by forged documents and fake palace membership cards. The administration confirmed that all credentials associated with them were fabricated and hold no legal standing. "The conferment of state honours, orders, and medals can only be granted by the Yang dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, during His Majesty's official birthday celebration at Istana Besar Seri Menanti," it said in a letter seen by NST. The office also said that state honours can only be conferred by Tuanku Muhriz during official ceremonies held at Istana Besar Seri Menanti. It said it would pursue legal action against those found misusing its name, emblems, or titles without consent. "Any event held outside the palace — be it in hotels or halls — is invalid," Datuk Lembaga Tiang Balai YM Datuk Raja Balang Hamzah Limin told reporters. He added that since the appointment of the 15th Undang Luak (chieftan), Datuk Muhammad Abdullah, in 2016, no titles have been issued by the office. "We do not issue terms like 'Putri' or 'royal adopted child' — even the Undang's own children do not use such titles," he said. The Council of Federal Datuks (MDPM) and the Council of Datuk Dato' Malaysia (MDDM) said the misuse of royal titles is on the rise and poses a serious threat to the credibility of Malaysia's honours system. MDDM legal advisor Datuk Rajpal Singh said the individuals violated multiple laws, including the Emblems and Names Act 1963, the Emblems and Uniforms Act 2017, and provisions of the Penal Code related to forgery. MDPM president Datuk Alvin Tee said more such cases are likely, while MDDM president Datuk Samson Maman urged the National Registration Department to investigate possible misuse of government-issued IDs.

MACC records statements of 32 individuals over e-waste smuggling racket
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded the statements of 32 individuals in its investigation into a scrap metal and e-waste smuggling syndicate following raids in five states recently. According to a source, the MACC is identifying several other individuals and conducting further investigations under Section 16 and Section 18 of the MACC Act. The MACC has also recorded a statement from a man with a "Datuk Seri" title linked to the smuggling syndicate, but no arrests have been made," he said when contacted on Monday (July 28). It was previously reported that the MACC had raided a scrap metal smuggling syndicate in five states that was believed to be paying bribes to enforcement authorities, causing the government to suffer losses in export tax amounting to more than RM950mil. – Bernama
