Perak One Of Malaysia's Top Durian-Producing States In 2024
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the achievement thus contributed to the country's agri-food economy and proved Perak's capability in the durian export market.
Saarani said Malaysia exported durians produced in Perak to over 41 countries between 2017 and 2023, with 73 per cent of the export value concentrated in China.
"In 2022, Malaysia's durian export value reached RM1.14 billion, including RM887 million to China, yet demand for varieties such as the Musang King, Black Thorn, D24, IOI and premium durian kampung from Perak continues to rise.
"In addition, Topone Solution Sdn Bhd (TSSB) successfully exported 30 containers of durians worth RM20 million in 2024, including five containers of durian kampung worth RM1 million, as well as 100 tonnes of durian kampung paste worth RM5.25 million,' he said.
Saarani said this when officiating the closing ceremony of the 2025 Perak state-level Durian Fest at Dataran Selama, near here, today.
He said Malaysia began exporting fresh durians to China on Aug 24, 2024, involving 413.61 tonnes (RM24.84 million), following the phytosanitary agreement between the two countries after official approval was obtained in June last year.
"Since then, Malaysian durians have penetrated 16 key provinces in China and received an overwhelming response as a premium exotic product, with the durian kampung from Perak also gaining global recognition.
"Malaysia's durian export value is expected to reach RM1.8 billion by 2030, with an annual growth rate of between 20 and 25 per cent, driven by advancements in logistics, frozen supply chain technology and downstream product innovation,' he said.

Appreciation package for Malaysians to be announced soon says PM Anwar
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that a special appreciation package for the people will be announced either tomorrow or Wednesday. The announcement follows discussions during the Unity Government retreat in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, where public concerns were reviewed. Anwar stated that additional time was needed to finalise the details of the package, ensuring it effectively addresses pressing issues. 'The retreat focused on explaining government policies while also listening to public concerns, which led me to consider certain changes and announcements to help ease these issues,' he said during the Prime Minister's Department monthly assembly. Earlier, on July 19 in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Anwar hinted that the package would include government measures to tackle the rising cost of living. He emphasised that careful review was necessary before making the official announcement. 'I mentioned that I would make an announcement within a day or two (whether in the form of additional measures or otherwise) but it requires some careful review,' he added. The upcoming package is expected to provide relief to Malaysians facing economic challenges, aligning with the government's commitment to addressing public welfare. - Bernama

Thai Citizens To Benefit From 20 Baht Train Fare Starting October
BANGKOK, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Thai government is on track to implement the imposition of a maximum fare for electric train travel in Greater Bangkok for its citizens. Starting Oct 1, a flat rate of 20 baht (US$0.62) will be implemented for Thai citizens. The scheme covers the entire eight lines comprising 13 routes within Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, spanning 276.84 kilometres and 194 stations. bootstrap slideshow Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, in a statement on Monday, expressed confidence that the public would significantly benefit from this initiative. Suriya confirmed that by August 2025, eligible Thai citizens would be able to register for the scheme via the government's Tang Rat mobile application. Expressing appreciation to Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt for a recent meeting to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation, Suriya said he has also tasked the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to implement a feeder bus system. Short-distance shuttle buses will be deployed along the electric train routes to enhance connectivity and convenience for commuters. He said the government is expediting the establishment of a fund to promote an integrated ticketing system by utilising the accumulated revenue of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) to compensate operators for fare revenue shortfalls. The plan to cap electric train fares in Greater Bangkok was approved by the Thai Cabinet earlier this month to reduce commuting costs and encourage motorists to switch to public transportation.
