South Lebanon Elections: Voters Reiterate Allegiance to Resistance Path with High Turnout Rates
In addition to the vast election wins by acclamation in 109 out of 271 towns and villages in South Lebanon and Nabatieh governorates, the voters whose candidates engage in the municipal and mayoral election contest have been flocking into the polling stations with high turnout rates.
Ministry of Interior and Municipalities released updated voter turnout rates across southern Lebanon. The figures are as follows:
Jezzine: 35.04% Hasbaya: 28.36% Marjeyoun: 24.92% Bint Jbeil: 21.82% Nabatieh: 32.20% Tyre: 29.03% Sidon: 33.02%
President Jospeh Aoun inspected the electoral process in South Lebanon, greeting the martyrs on the 25th anniversary of Liberation and calling on the voters to choose those who will contribute to the reconstruction of the town.
President Aoun cast his ballot at one of the polling stations in his hometown, Aisheyye.
Member of Loyalty to Resistance bloc Dr. Hasan Fadlallah, in turn, underscored the high voter turnout as an indicator of the southerners commitment to the resistance path, reiterating that the Lebanese government must carry out the project of reconstructing what has been destroyed by the Zionist war.
Sayyed Fadlallah pointed out that 400 thousand families have benefited from the financial compensations paid by Hezbollah, adding that any government reluctance in implementing the reconstruction project will not be tolerated.

Behind closed doors: UN envoy meets Hezbollah official to discuss Resolution 1701 and Israeli violations
Report by Wissam Nasrallah, English adaptation by Yasmine Jaroudi In a discreet meeting held at an undisclosed time and place, Hezbollah's Coordination and Liaison Unit chief, Wafiq Safa, met with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss key issues surrounding U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. According to Hezbollah, the primary focus of the meeting was the implementation of Resolution 1701, with Safa reiterating the group's commitment to the framework while presenting what he described as ongoing Israeli violations of the accord. The conversation reportedly expanded to include the upcoming renewal of the U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, which is scheduled for a vote at the end of August. Israel is said to be applying pressure to prevent the renewal or at least reduce the mission's mandate. The meeting also addressed concerns over potential escalation along the southern border and emphasized the need for all parties to adhere to Resolution 1701 to maintain regional stability strictly. While Hezbollah insisted the meeting was part of routine coordination and not intended for message delivery or backchannel negotiations, the involvement of Hennis-Plasschaert—who previously served as the Netherlands' first female defense minister and U.N. Special Representative for Iraq—adds weight to the encounter. Her presence suggests a deeper diplomatic interest, especially given the current tensions and Israeli pressure on both Hezbollah and the U.N. mission. No official statement has been issued from the U.N. envoy's office regarding the meeting or its contents. However, the mere occurrence of such a meeting is seen by some observers as potentially significant, raising questions about whether Plasschaert was seeking to convey specific international concerns or simply assessing Hezbollah's position amid mounting geopolitical pressure.

Hamas Submits Response to US Ceasefire Proposal Following National Consultations
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced on Saturday that it has delivered its official response to the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by US envoy Steve Weitkoff. The response was submitted to mediators after a round of internal consultations, which the movement described as part of its 'high sense of responsibility toward the Palestinian people and their suffering.' In a statement, Hamas said the proposal, as framed, must lead to a permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and an uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population in the besieged enclave. The group confirmed that, under the framework of the proposed agreement, ten Zionist captives held alive by the resistance would be released, along with the return of 18 bodies, in exchange for a negotiated number of Palestinian prisoners. 💢 Hamas submits its response to US envoy Steve Witkoff's Gaza ceasefire proposal via Egypt and Qatar, calling for a permanent ceasefire, full Israeli withdrawal, and steady humanitarian aid ▫️They offer to release 10 Israeli captives and 18 bodies in exchange for an agreed… — Anadolu English (@anadoluagency) May 31, 2025 Proposal Details and Israeli Reaction Israeli public broadcaster Kan reported earlier that the Zionist government had received the US proposal on Wednesday evening, citing an unnamed senior Israeli official. According to the report, the proposal includes the release of 10 live Zionist captives and the handover of 10 bodies in two stages in return for a 60-day temporary ceasefire. Previously, Hamas had confirmed it had received the updated Weitkoff proposal through Qatari and Egyptian mediators and was studying it carefully, emphasizing that any agreement must safeguard the interests of the Palestinian people and result in a lasting ceasefire. However, the Israeli Walla News quoted a senior Zionist official who said the latest proposal was 'more favorable to Israel' than previous ones and lacked firm US guarantees for a permanent ceasefire. The official noted that the proposal does not clearly state whether a ceasefire would continue beyond 60 days if negotiations remain unresolved. Early Saturday, Reuters quoted US President Donald Trump as saying he believes both Hamas and the Israeli occupation are looking for 'a way out of the chaos.' The remarks followed Trump's statement late Friday from the White House, in which he revealed that both parties were 'very close' to reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Hezbollah MP Slams Lebanese Ministers: Implementation of Gov't Obligations Can't Be Selective
Member of Hezbollah's Loyalty to Resistance MP Hasan Fadlallah slammed some ministers in the Lebanese government, noting that their remarks contradict with the ministerial statement. In an address during a local ceremony in the southern town of Zawtar Al-Sharqiya, MP Fadlallah said 'some positions we hear from members of the government aimed at evading the responsibilities they have committed to before the Lebanese people.' In this context, MP Fadlallah stressed that such responsibilities 'are the commitments on the basis of which the Lebanese government won the Parliament's confidence. 'Some of the government's members act as if the implementation of these obligations is a selective process based on what they desire, or on what is imposed on them by foreign powers' external dictates.' He explained that the ministerial statement stipulated that the Government is committed to reconstruction, defending the border and its people as well as taking all measures in order to liberate the land. 'Has the government implemented its commitments regarding reconstruction and the other two issues?' MP Fadlallah wondered. The Hezbollah lawmaker, meanwhile, called on these ministers to 'implement their commitments first.' 'We have nothing more to give, to anyone, in any way, whether in South Lebanon, or in any region. We have fulfilled our obligations at all levels.' 'The current government is obligated, according to the Constitution and legal text, to implement the provisions of the ministerial statement. We have nothing else to say. When they implement these provisions, we will talk about other matters.' Fadlallah remarks come as the Israeli enemy goes ahead with attacks on Lebanon, in violation of the ceasefire that ended the 66-day Israeli war. A Lebanese citizen was martyred at dawn on Saturday in an Israeli drone strike on his vehicle in the southern town of Deir Al-Zahrani.
