Punjab Kings' win in Ahmedabad was notable not only for the result but for the manner in which it was achieved. Chasing a target of 204 runs, PBKS reached their goal with six balls remaining at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket venue. This victory marks PBKS's second IPL final appearance, their first since 2014, and sets up a final against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Both teams are still seeking their maiden IPL championship in the tournament's 18th edition.
Shreyas Iyer's Captain's Knock Seals the Deal
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer led the chase with an unbeaten 87 runs off 41 balls, including five fours and eight sixes. His aggressive yet composed innings was crucial, especially his dominant hitting against England pacer Reece Topley, where he struck three consecutive sixes in the 13th and 14th overs. Iyer praised the pressure of big games, stating, 'I love such big occasions. I always remind myself and my teammates that the bigger the occasion, the calmer you should be to achieve great results.'
His partnership with Nehal Wadhera, who scored 48, helped shift momentum decisively in PBKS's favour.
Mumbai Indians batted first and posted 203 runs for six wickets despite losing key players early, including veteran opener Rohit Sharma. Notable performances came from Jonny Bairstow (38) and Tilak Varma (44), who built vital partnerships to set a challenging target. Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya acknowledged Iyer's excellent batting, saying, 'The way Shreyas batted, took his chances, and played some outstanding shots. They were really calm, put us under pressure, and we couldn't execute our plans as intended.'
Social Media Reacts to the Viral Tweet
Fans and followers of the IPL rejoiced in the viral comeback of Salman Khan's tweet. Many viewed it as a good luck charm for PBKS, sharing memes and urging the superstar to attend the final. Comments ranged from calls to 'Bring him to the final,' to expressions of awe at how well the tweet has aged. The PBKS social media team cleverly used the opportunity to connect past and present, adding to the tournament's vibrant atmosphere.
With PBKS and RCB both chasing their first IPL title, the upcoming final promises to be a historic encounter.

Kamal Haasan's 'Thug Life' falls short of 'Indian 2' premiere day advance bookings in the USA
Kamal Haasan's 'Thug Life,' directed by Mani Ratnam, is set for a strong U.S. debut, earning $454,000 in advance sales. However, it trails Haasan's 'Indian 2,' which has already grossed $580,431, becoming his biggest North American premiere. 'Thug Life' faces controversy in Karnataka, with its release postponed due to Haasan's remarks on Kannada's origin. Kamal Haasan 's much-anticipated gangster drama Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam , is poised for a solid debut in the United States, though it has fallen short of matching the premiere day advance booking numbers of Haasan's upcoming film Indian 2. Advance ticket sales for Thug Life's U.S. premiere have reached US $454,000 across 375 locations, covering over 1000 shows and selling more than 17,000 tickets. Industry analysts are projecting that the film's total North American premiere day earnings could go up to US $ 800,000 positioning it as Haasan's second-biggest premiere day opening in the region.. However, when compared to the advance sales of Indian 2, which is set to release last year, Thug Life trails notably. Indian 2 has already clocked $580,431 in advance sales across 484 locations, with 1,457 shows and 27,935 tickets sold for its U.S. premiere. This makes Indian 2 Haasan's biggest premiere day in North America so far — even before its 2 being a sequel to Kamal Haasan's 1996 hit film Indian- the buzz for the film was much more as compared to Thug Life. Thug Life marks a major reunion between Kamal Haasan and legendary director Mani Ratnam after their iconic 1987 collaboration Nayakan. The film features a stellar ensemble cast including Silambarasan TR , Trisha Krishnan , Joju George , and Ali Fazal , with music composed by A.R. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Are you 18-79 with no funeral insurance? Back home, however, Thug Life has run into controversy. The film's release in Karnataka has been postponed following backlash against Haasan's recent remarks claiming Kannada originated from Tamil. The statement drew sharp criticism from the Kannada-speaking community and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), which demanded an apology and threatened to block the film's release in the state. Haasan stood by his comments, refusing to apologize, asserting they were misinterpreted. Following escalating tensions, the decision was made to indefinitely postpone Thug Life's release in Karnataka. The Karnataka High Court also weighed in, advising Haasan to apologize to the Kannada community. Despite the controversy, Thug Life continues to generate substantial international interest. The film's strong U.S. advance bookings reaffirm Kamal Haasan's enduring global appeal, though it now has a new bar to beat with Indian 2 already setting an impressive record ahead of its premiere. Former RCB owner Mallya recalls picking Kohli, says IPL title is dream-come-true moment for him
New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru owner Vijay Mallya recalled picking a young Virat Kohli 18 seasons ago in the players auction and said it was remarkable to witness the maestro staying loyal to the franchise, which has finally won a long-awaited IPL trophy. RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in the IPL final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to end their long wait in the 18th edition of the tournament. "When I founded RCB it was my dream that the IPL trophy should come to Bengaluru. I had the privilege of picking the legendary King Kohli as a youngster and it is remarkable that he has stayed with RCB for 18 years," Mallya wrote in a post on 'X'. RCB, which was bought by Mallya for USD 111.6 million back in 2008, picked Kohli in the inaugural IPL auction in January 2008, and the batting superstar has only played for the Bengaluru-based franchise since then. The UK-based Mallya lost ownership of the franchise in 2016 after defaulting on bank loans. The team is now completely owned by United Spirits. Mallya is, however, credited with playing major a role in signing the cricketing giants like AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Jacques Kallis, and Anil Kumble among others for RCB. "I also had the honour of picking Chris Gayle the Universe Boss and Mr 360 AB DeVillers who remain an indelible part of RCB history. Finally, the IPL trophy arrives in Bengaluru. "Congratulations and thanks again to all who made my dream come true. RCB fans are the very best and they deserve the IPL trophy. Ee Sala Cup Bengaluru baruthe ! (This year, the cup is ours)," Mallya wrote. The liquor baron, who is accused of defaulting on loans worth several crores from Indian banks, including the State Bank of India (SBI), congratulated the entire RCB team management for the triumph. "RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations ! Ee sala cup namde !!"

Bangalore Girl Deepika Padukone Reacts To Virat Kohli's Post After RCB's Historic IPL Win
Last Updated: Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their first IPL title with a 6-run win over Punjab Kings in the 2025 final. After nearly two decades of unwavering commitment, Virat Kohli has finally lifted the IPL trophy — and with it, the weight of 18 long seasons. Royal Challengers Bengaluru etched their name in history with a thrilling 6-run win over Punjab Kings in the 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat Kohli, the face of RCB since its inception, played a pivotal role in the victory, contributing 43 runs off 35 balls. The triumph was sealed by stellar bowling performances from Krunal Pandya, who was named Player of the Match for his 2/17 spell, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who took 2/38. Celebrations erupted both on and off the field with the star player celebrating with franchise legends AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. Virat Kohli also shared photos from the jubilant moments, including lifting the trophy alongside teammates. The post has also raked in millions of likes, with Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, a Bangalore native, among those who liked and reacted to the photos. Actress Athiya Shetty, wife of cricketer KL Rahul, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and wife Anushka Sharma also joined in, expressing their admiration for the team's achievement. Deepika Padukone, infact, has a deep connection to Bangalore. Though born in Denmark, she grew up in Bangalore, studied at Sophia High School and Mount Carmel College, and often shares fond memories of the city — from playing badminton in the mornings to enjoying dosas at local spots. She has also supported Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL. In the early years, especially around 2010, she was often seen at matches cheering. While she hasn't attended games recently, looks like she still quietly supports the team. Meanwhile, after leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a historic IPL 2025 title, Virat Kohli gave a heartfelt tribute to his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, in a post-match interaction that has now gone viral. The win marks the end of RCB's 18-year-long wait for the coveted IPL trophy, and Kohli made sure to acknowledge the emotional and personal support he's received over the years from Anushka. 'She's been coming here and supporting RCB since 2014, so it's been 11 years for her as well," Virat said, visibly emotional. 'She's been there relentlessly — coming to the games, watching the tough ones, watching us just miss out. What your life partner does for you to be able to play, the sacrifices, the commitment, and just backing you through thick and thin — it's something you can't really explain in words."
