Amazon Prime finally adds 'best horror movie of 2024' that's 'masterclass in suspense'

The lead performance was praised by critics and fans
Amazon Prime has finally added what has been dubbed by fans as the 'best horror movie of 2024' and described as a 'masterclass in suspense'.
After appearing in the platform's coming soon list more than a month ago, Heretic, has finally been included in the streamer's library. It is now available to stream at no additional cost to Prime subscribers from today (June 1).

The film caused quite a stir when it was released in cinemas last year, as it stars iconic British actor Hugh Grant in a very different role. His performance would eventually earn him a BAFTA nomination for Best Leading Actor.

Its story follows two young missionaries who become ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse when they knock on the door of the diabolical Mr. Reed (Grant). Trapped in his home, they must turn to their faith if they want to make it out alive.
The film was written and directed by filmmaking duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The pair are well known for penning the original A Quiet Place together. Their recent project was just as well received critically, earning a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

One verified reviewer saying it 'messes with your mind'. Fans are still singing its praises just as much with several claiming that it is the 'hands down, best horror movie of 2024.'
Another said: "Thought-provoking. Somewhere between Saw, Cube, and 10 Cloverfield Lane, wrapped in a 'crisis of faith' theme. Come for the psychological thriller, stay for the philosophical killer. Excellent performances/directing. Much like the titular antagonist, the film manages to hold a microscope up to religion while giving us challenging choices to make."

Singing Grant's praises in particular, one viewer states: "Heretic is an absolute masterclass in suspense and psychological horror, and Hugh Grant delivers one of the most chilling performances of his career."
They continue: "Stepping away from his usual charming roles, Grant embodies pure menace with eerie precision, proving once again why he's one of the most versatile actors in the industry."
One fan praised the studio behind the release, A24, stating they 'knocked it out the park again', while another claimed 'Hollywood has done a disservice to Hugh Grant.'
They said: "Based on this performance, he clearly should have been given more antagonist roles. He chews up dialogue like Denzel in Training Day and easily layers on tension and malice. Fantastic." Someone else claimed that their immediate reaction after seeing the film was: "This movie is simply PERFECT. Like Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" perfect."

EastEnders Bernie star supported by cast as she breaks silence on show axe

EastEnders actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in the soap, has broken her silence after it was revealed she'd been axed by the BBC soap Actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in EastEnders, has spoken out weeks after it was revealed she had been axed from the BBC soap after eight years. Clair, 27, joined her fellow castmates at this weekend's British Soap Awards, in which the soap won an incredible 8 awards. It included wins for Best British Soap, Best Single Episode and Scene of the Year for Angie Watts' surprise return. ‌ The cast and crew were out in full force celebrating, as Clair addressed her exit for the first time in a post from the night - calling it an "amazing end". ‌ Taking to her Instagram to post a picture of herself all glammed up in a teal dress on the night, Clair penned: "My last @thebritishsoapawards with my EE family. We [broom emoji] up last night, 8 awards & I couldn't be prouder to be apart of this team! What a way to end this amazing journey, head held high & beaming from ear to ear." Clair was supported by both fans as colleagues in her post, with James Farrar, who plays Zack Hudson writing: "Head held HIGH," along with a number of red heart emojis. Emma Barton who plays Honey Mitchell echoed: "Love you," as Elijah Holloway who plays Harry Mitchell gushed: "We looked lovely didn't we." Clair also posted pictures with co-star Matthew James Morrison, who has also been axed from the soap after playing the role of Felix Baker since 2022. ‌ Bernie arrived in Walford in 2017 alongside mum Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and brother Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters). However, she's the last one of her family members left on the Square with her mum Karen leaving EastEnders in 2023, shortly followed by the murder of her brother Keanu on Christmas Day. According to The Sun, Bernie's exit storyline didn't come as a surprise to star Clair. A source told the publication: "Every time a soap gets a new boss they want to make their own changes – it's nothing personal. "The writing has been on the wall for Bernie for some time so it wasn't really a surprise to Clair." "She was the last Taylor standing and it's time to close the chapter on them and let Clair go on to do other things." EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
