Akbarpur bus stand renamed as Shravan Dham bus stand: CM
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced the renaming of the Akbarpur bus stand in Ambedkar Nagar to 'Shravan Dham bus stand', pointing out that the move is a 'tribute to the cultural and mythological legacy of Shravan Kumar from the Ramayana'.
Adityanath made the announcement during his visit to the district, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 194 development projects worth Rs 1,184 crore. The event marked the inauguration of 102 projects and laying of the foundation stone for 92 schemes.
The CM also said that the Tanda bus stand would now be known as 'Jairam Verma bus stand,' in honour of the late Jairam Verma.
He emphasised the government's commitment to developing Shravan Dham as a religious and cultural tourism destination, highlighting its ancient legacy. He also reiterated the state's focus on promoting tourism in Shiv Baba Dham, where he offered prayers for the happiness and prosperity of the people before the public event. He noted that several development works in Shiv Baba Dham have been completed, with the remaining progressing rapidly.
During the programme, the CM said Rs 561.86 crore has been disbursed to 11,690 farmer families across the state under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana, including 431 families from Ambedkar Nagar alone. The scheme extends benefits to farmers, sharecroppers, agricultural labourers, and their families. He added that financial assistance ranging between Rs 500 crore to Rs 1,050 crore has been allocated for this initiative from the 2020–21 financial year to 2025–26.
'There is no dearth of funds,' the Chief Minister said, 'and we are conducting camps in every tehsil to ensure that disaster-affected farmer families receive prompt relief.'
The 194 projects included departments, including 14 projects of the Public Works Department, 72 under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 4 by the Electricity Department, 6 related to law and order/security, and 13 tube well projects.
Appointment letters were also distributed on the occasion to the newly recruited doctors, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, ANMs and other personnel.
Adityanath hit out at those indulging in 'family-centric' politics. He accused them of exploiting caste for personal political gain, using divisive tactics and attempting to dampen the public's enthusiasm.
The CM remarked that Uttar Pradesh has shed its earlier tag of a 'Bimaru' state and emerged as one of India's leading economies. He highlighted the transformative development taking place in Ambedkar Nagar — such as the construction of a medical college, polytechnic, and tourism infrastructure — which is helping redefine the district's identity.
Expressing gratitude to the people of the Katehari Assembly constituency where bypolls were held recently, Adityanath said that by electing Dharmaraj Nishad as their MLA, they have made a significant contribution to the region's development. He added that markets with populations between 20,000 and 25,000 can be upgraded to Nagar Panchayats if they meet the required criteria.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurates Ayushman Arogya Mandirs
After the BJP came to power in Delhi, its government signed an MoU with the Centre earlier this month to as she inaugurated an Ayushman Arogya Mandir here to deliver comprehensive primary health care Press Trust of India New Delhi Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday asserted that her government wants to make the national capital best in terms of health infrastructure as she inaugurated an Ayushman Arogya Mandir here to deliver comprehensive primary health care. At the inauguration event at Tis Hazari, Gupta also hit out at the previous AAP dispensation and alleged that mohalla clinics run by them were "corruption hubs". "Corruption was committed in the name of outsourcing of tests. There was corruption in taking space for the clinics on rent," she charged. Gupta said the Centre had allocated Rs 2,400 crore to the previous government for opening of over 1,100 Ayushman Mandirs but those funds were not utilised. "Those funds will lapse by March. The previous government did not use the funds. We have to build these Ayushman Mandirs by March next year so that the funds do not get lapsed. The work that should have been done in five years, we will have to do it in much less time," she added. The chief minister said the government is working towards making Delhi the best in terms of health infrastructure. "We want to ensure that no one should lose their life because of lack of proper treatment," she added. According the the standards set by the World Health Organisation, there should be two beds per 1,000 people. "There are 0.42 beds in Delhi for 1,000 people. It means that there is not even one bed available for 1,000 people. We are working on a target of having three beds for 1,000 people," she added. Thirty-three Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras were inaugurated across the national capital by ministers here. Ayushman Arogya Mandirs is a component of the Union government's Ayushman Bharat initiative. After the BJP came to power in Delhi, its government signed an MoU with the Centre earlier this month to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the city, fulfilling a major poll promise of the party. At the event, the chief minister also urged lawyers not to deface walls with posters. "Posters are seen pasted around courts. I request you to not deface the walls. Please remove these posters," she said. Cong accuses Modi Govt of delaying caste census, calls it political diversion
New Delhi, June 17 (UNI) The Congress on Tuesday slammed the Modi government for what it called a deliberate 'delay in conducting a caste census', accusing it of politicising the issue to divert public attention — much like the women's reservation bill. Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot, while addressing a press conference here, said that the demand for a caste census, led prominently by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, has long been a priority for the Congress, and the government has only "yielded to this pressure in principle, not in action". "The Modi government is simply managing headlines, not genuinely addressing the issue," Pilot said, adding that the formal notification lacks any mention of a 'caste-based enumeration'. 'The government has claimed that the caste census will begin in 2027, but concerns are growing due to the glaring budgetary shortfall. Only Rs 574 crore has been allocated, whereas such a massive exercise requires at least Rs 8,000 to 10,000 crore,' Pilot alleged. Accusing the central government of lacking both intent and commitment, Pilot said, "The objective is not just to collect data on an individual's caste but to understand the living conditions of these families and create policies to substantially improve their livelihoods." Without tangible data, no state or central government can implement targeted interventions, which is what we aimed to achieve." 'Initially, they labelled us "Urban Naxals" and refused to accept these demands. Now, sensing the country's mood, they have accepted the proposal in principle. However, there seems to be considerable confusion and dissatisfaction regarding it,' Pilot said. He again urged the Centre to emulate the 'Telangana model' at the national level, claiming that the state had successfully conducted a comprehensive caste survey using NGOs and technical experts instead of overburdened government staff. Pilot also demanded a clear roadmap, sufficient funding, and transparency in the execution of the census. UNI RBE ARN

Defence stocks rally up to 3% amid Iran-Israel tensions, investors eye sectoral boost, geopolitics fuel long-term export optimism
Defence and aerospace stocks saw renewed momentum in Tuesday's intraday trading session as intensifying geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and expectations of a higher defence allocation in the upcoming budget spurred investor interest. Leading the gains was Data Patterns (India) Ltd, which surged 3% to a day's high of Rs 3,049.50. Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) followed closely with a 2.8% rise to Rs 1,940.70. BEML shares rose 2.2% to Rs 4,473.00, while Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) climbed 1.6% to touch Rs 5,130.50, according to an ET report. The surge comes amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, pushing investors toward sectors considered resilient during geopolitical crises. Market watchers believe the current situation may also accelerate government defence spending plans. Sankhanath Bandyopadhyay, Economist at Infomerics Valuation and Ratings, noted, 'Defence stocks look promising due to the ongoing geopolitical tussle between Iran and Israel. Moreover, the Indian government is likely to enhance defence spending from the current 2% of GDP to 3–4% over the next decade.' He added that the Centre's aim to achieve Rs 25,000 crore in defence exports by FY26 provides further support to stocks with export-oriented operations. The heightened global uncertainty has strengthened the outlook for companies catering to military and aerospace demand, analysts said. Cautioning investors, Bandyopadhyay said, 'In the current scenario, geopolitical tensions will likely be lingering between different countries, especially as being reflected in rising tensions in the Middle East. Investors should carefully assess the financials and outlook of such stocks before investing, and there should be a judicious mix so that a healthy dividend can also be earned.' The rally also reflects growing confidence in India's indigenous defence manufacturing sector, which has been prioritized under the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
