PM to flag off Vande Bharat train on Patliputra-Gorakhpur route

Gorakhpur
via videoconferencing from Siwan during his visit on June 20.
The much-awaited semi-high-speed train is expected to improve connectivity in north Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, much to the relief of residents in both states.
Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary said preparations were underway for the launch of the new Vande Bharat Express. "The function will be held on platform number 1 at Patliputra Junction. Other details are still awaited," he said, adding that the Danapur division is already operating Vande Bharat trains on the Patna-Ranchi, Patna-Howrah, Patna-New Jalpaiguri, Patna-Tatanagar and Patna-Lucknow routes.
According to sources, the new train will have eight modern coaches and cover the 234-km distance in just about five hours, almost half the time taken by conventional passenger trains, which usually take up to nine hours. The train will offer 1,130 seats with each coach featuring four emergency windows for passenger safety.
A railway official from the Danapur division said the new Vande Bharat Express would run via Bettiah, Bapudham Motihari and Muzaffarpur with scheduled halts at eight stations between Patliputra Junction and Gorakhpur.
Preparations for the inaugural run, including track inspections, station readiness and security arrangements, are already in progress.
The addition of this new train is seen as a major step toward improving intra-state travel in Bihar and improving connectivity with eastern Uttar Pradesh. Sources said the train's advanced features, such as reduced travel time, modern amenities and enhanced safety, are expected to draw a substantial number of passengers on the Patna-Gorakhpur route. Fare details and the final list of stoppages are currently being finalised by the Railway Board.

Buses coming from Alluri Sitharama Raju district should reach Vepagunta – Hanumanthawaka and arrive at Maddilapalem. Parking was allotted at Pithapuram Colony, he said. He said that VIPs should use the AIR Circle route to reach APIIC grounds to park their vehicles. He said that every ward secretariat was given designated parking location to reach. Heavy vehicles will be diverted as restrictions were set to enforced in the city from June 20 to June 21 evening, he said. Mr. Bagchi said that they have 11 drones and have asked for a few more for policing. He also said that each compartment will be deployed with around five to 10 policeman, based on the number of participants, with a Sub-Inspector rank officer to monitor. He also added that exclusive Command and Control Rooms are being set up to monitor the traffic and VIP movements.

Nicosia [Cyprus], June 17 (ANI): India's High Commissioner to Cyprus, Manish, on Tuesday emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of world peace and development, rooted in ancient Indian philosophy, citing the geopolitical conflict going on around the region. Speaking on PM Modi's recent statement, Manish highlighted India's consistent stance on promoting peaceful coexistence and dialogue. 'We believe this is not an era of war,' he said. 'The PM has a great vision about world peace and world development, and this stems from his belief in our ancient philosophy, and this is not the first time the PM has articulated his position; but speaking from here becomes relevant because there is a lot of geopolitical conflict going on around the region,' Manish told ANI. 'So, India has always believed in peaceful coexistence and dialogue. So, I think in that sense, PM's statement will reinforce India's position on peaceful settlement of any dispute through dialogue,' he added. Further, Manish highlighted Cyprus's strong support for India's fight against international and cross-border terrorism. This comes after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which Cyprus condemned strongly, with Cyprus' President Nikos Christodoulides sending a personal message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing solidarity. 'After the attack in Pahalgam on 22nd April, when I saw various leaders condemning it, Cyprus was one of the first countries which condemned the incident and there was a personal message from President to our PM in a letter, where he expressed and the two Foreign Ministers also spoke on this issue,' he said. 'Cyprus has always condemned cross-border and international terrorism, but this time they have come out very strongly, condemning all forms of terrorism. They also unequivocally condemned the Pahalgam attack. They are very supportive that the perpetrators of any form of terrorism should be called out and brought to justice,' he added. Cyprus has 'strongly supported India's fight' against international terrorism and cross-border terrorism, the High Commissioner affirmed. 'I must say that this will lead to further engagement in defence and security aspect and if you see the statement of two leaders - cybersecurity, maritime cooperation, maritime awareness domain, defence production related aspects will be high on agenda in the coming days and overall I must say that this is a new beginning in the defence and security cooperation and both sides will take it forward in days to come,' he added. According to the release, Prime Minister Modi's visit--the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in over two decades--was described as a 'historic milestone' that 'reaffirms the deep and enduring friendship between the two nations.' The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) accused the Congress and its allies of promoting their own families and creating divisions between castes in an attempt to generate electoral gains. 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved a nationwide census, which will, for the first time in independent India, include both a socio-economic survey and caste enumeration,' BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference. He said the Modi government's objective was to ensure recognition, respect, and the upliftment of all castes, especially those at the farthest margins. 'The BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government in Bihar set an example by conducting a caste-based survey in 2022. Ironically, it was the Congress that stopped caste-based enumeration in 1951. It also sidelined the Kaka Kalelkar Committee report and failed to implement the Mandal Commission recommendations. Now, the same party raises questions on these issues while ignoring facts clearly stated in official documents,' he said. The BJP leader alleged that the Congress and its allies 'want to dedicate all loyalty only to their own families, and incite conflict among all sections for that purpose'. 'After having been in power for so long, the Congress should at least understand technical matters. The notification for a caste census is issued by the Centre. States cannot conduct a caste census, so which State's notification are they referring to? States can only conduct surveys. The process of conducting a survey is different and has no statutory procedure,' Mr. Trivedi said. He said the West Bengal government had included a large number of people from the Muslim community in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, for which the Backward Classes Commission had duly sought an answer from the State government. 'Of the total 179 backward class castes included in the State list of West Bengal, 118 castes are Muslim. Before 2011, the total number of backward castes was 108, of which 53 were Muslim. After 2011, 71 backward castes were included, of which 65 are Muslims,' the BJP leader said, alleging that this was due to 'vote bank politics'.
