‘He looks odd': Akshay Kumar's role as Lord Shiva in Kannappa trailer slammed, fans say Telugu dubbing is jarring
Kannappa trailer: Akshay Kumar's portrayal of Lord Shiva (in his Telugu debut) in the recently released Kannappa trailer has sparked debate across social media. Although the film has attracted attention for its mythological storyline and ensemble cast, Akshay's look and performance have received a divided response. A number of viewers were unimpressed, describing his appearance as 'odd' and finding the Telugu dubbing off-putting and unnatural.
Kannappa trailer
The trailer of Kannappa, featuring Vishnu Manchu and Akshay Kumar, was released on social media recently. The film is inspired by the legendary story of Kannappa, a devoted worshipper of Lord Shiva. With Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, the movie portrays the powerful journey of a fearless devotee, set against a visually stunning and emotionally charged backdrop. Akshay Kumar appears as Lord Shiva, sharing the screen with Telugu superstars Mohanlal and Prabhas.
Reacting to the trailer, some people called it 'not bad' and others felt Akshay didn't look the best for this role. Some even mentioned how they know Akshay can't speak Telugu and the AI dub sounds jarring.
One wrote, 'Sorry, just bad. They should shot the movie in India instead. The characters does not look like medieval Hindus who lived in Kannapa time. More like Amazon tribes. Akki and Kajal looks odd as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.'
Another added, 'Looks like AI dubbing is the new norm now. We know Akshay and Lal cannot speak telugu, so it's just jarring.'
A third went on to add, 'Despite all the other issues, one thing that irks me the most is the costumes. It looks extremely cheap and unauthentic. Some of the scenes/shots look stupid simply because of their outfits tbh.'
Kannappa release date
Helmed by director Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa also features Kajal Aggarwal and Preity Mukhundhan in key roles. The film is set to release in theatres on June 27.

Kannappa: Ram Gopal Varma Praises Vishnu Manchu, Says He'll Buy Ticket To Watch Him, Not Prabhas
Last Updated: Ram Gopal Varma praised Vishnu Manchu's performance in Kannappa, saying it left him "speechless" and promising to buy a ticket just to watch him. The buzz surrounding Kannappa shows no signs of slowing down. The recently released Telugu mythological drama, which hit theatres on June 27, has not only earned impressive opening numbers—grossing ₹11 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on day one—but also sparked conversations thanks to its dazzling star cameos by Prabhas, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, and more. Adding to the excitement, actor-producer Vishnu Manchu—who also plays the central role of Thinnadu—shared a heartwarming and unexpected message he received from filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma. Known for his often contrarian takes and skepticism toward religious themes in cinema, RGV surprised many with his reaction to Kannappa. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Vishnu Manchu posted a screenshot of Ram Gopal Varma's message. In it, the filmmaker candidly admitted, 'I am not a believer in Gods or devotees. So, I normally wouldn't watch films dealing with such themes." However, he added that Kannappa had defied his expectations entirely. This text message is like a dream come true for the actor in me. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 — Vishnu Manchu (@iVishnuManchu) June 28, 2025 In a glowing compliment to Vishnu's performance, RGV wrote, 'As Thinnadu, you didn't just act but you embodied a temple of faith like a high priest wielding a ferocity that left me speechless." Even though fans are flocking to see Prabhas in his fiery cameo as Rudra, Varma made it clear that his motivation to watch the film wasn't based on star power. 'All in all people might be coming into the theater for Prabhas, but now I am going to buy a ticket in the theater to see you," he wrote, signing off with admiration and support. The film, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, continues to ride high on word of mouth and fan anticipation. While celebrity cameos might have drawn audiences in, it's the performances—especially Vishnu's—and the spiritual storytelling that appear to be leaving a lasting impression. First Published:

(Photo by Marco BERTORELLO / AFP)(AFP) When the top personalities like Oprah Winfrey and Khloe Kardashian arrived on the private island wearing glitzy dresses and tuxedos, they astounded bystanders. However, Nicola Hickling, the Daily Mail's skilled lip reader, deciphered their coded whispers, revealing how, in certain respects, the glitzy elite are no different from us. Hickling claimed that as Oprah stepped into the water taxi that would transport her to the opulent event, she seemed worried that she might fall since Tommy Hilfiger stumbled a little when he boarded the ship. According to Hickling, Hilfiger, 74, told the man behind him, 'You can go after me.' However, he stumbled as he turned around. Kardashian family's strange boat moment Khloe Kardashian, who was there at the wedding on her birthday, was afraid she could 'tumble' as she and her sister Kim aboard one of the boats. The founder of the cosmetics company, as per the lip leader, asked her elder sister if they could 'go together' before tripping, suggesting that their younger sisters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, were also having difficulties. 'Let's hold hands and go together,' Kylie suggested, turning to face Kendall. The model responds, 'Want me to go?' Kylie moves aside to give her space. Kylie staggered a little when she got onto the taxi boat and then cried out, 'Uh oh!' Before boarding, Kris remarked, 'Tell them I said thanks,' and used the porter's paper towel to wipe away any water that could splash at her.
