Chappell Roan says she doesn't know any happy parents — is she wrong?
Chappell Roan says having kids is hellish — and not all parents are upset about it.
'All of my friends who have kids are in hell,' the 'Hot to Go!' singer shared on a March 26 episode of the podcast 'Call Her Daddy.'
'I actually don't know anyone who is like, happy and has children at this age,' said Roan, 27, adding, 'I have literally not met anyone who is happy, anyone who has light in their eyes, anyone who has slept.'
'This is not looking too good,' responded Alex Cooper, the host of 'Call Her Daddy.'
Many exhausted moms with flickering light in their eyes supported Roan.
'Mothers are so tired! It's true.'
'YESSS. Finally someone speaking my language.'
'49-year-mom of grown children. You are not wrong, girl. Being a mom in this country is ... rough.'
'I felt this in my soul.'
'I love my child with my entire heart but everything she said was absolutely true for me.'
'She is speaking the truth. Being a parent is hell.'
'You have to understand: In the midwest, a lot of people get married and have kids out of obligation, not because they actually want kids. I know a lot of people like that and they're miserable.'
Happy, well-rested and bright-eyed parents disagreed.
'Having children = greatest honor of my life.'
'Happy mother of three here!'
'It's so much more nuanced than 'Motherhood is the best/worst.' It is hard and she just showed that she's not the person for her friends to vent to about the hard parts because she's judging.'
'It's valid, but I personally don't know anyone who lost their spark after having kids. All of them love it.'
'As tired as I've ever been, nothing has filled my cup more than the snuggles, the giggles, and growth of my kiddos. Helping them become good and kind humans is the honor of my life and I'm a happy working mom.'
'Completely tone deaf.'
Who is happier — parents or non-parents?
As Jennifer Glass, a sociology professor at the University of Texas at Austin, told CNBC, feeling 'satisfied' with the decision to have children does not necessarily equal 'happiness.'
'It's not the same thing as financial well-being, good physical health or good emotional health,' Glass told CNBC.
Research shows parents experience a'happiness bump' right after a baby is born. But that tends to dissipate over the course of a year, Glass says — as it sets in that parenting is more than just cooing at a baby.
Glass noted in a 2017 study co-authored by Glass that parenting is harder in the U.S. compared to other countries, given our lack of parental leave and other benefits for moms and dads.
While the research was published nearly 10 years ago, it's still true in 2025: Parents in the U.S. aren't gauranteed paid parental leave and the cost of childcare is 'untenable' for many, according to the United States Census Bureau.
Although Roan told 'Call Her Daddy' that she and her 'awesome' mom friends have 'such different lives,' they still party — even if they have to hire babysitters.
'They're mothers, they're f------ busy and they have jobs and lives,' said Roan, joking, 'When I go home, I love reminiscing about destroying public property with them and doing some illegal s---,' she joked.

GameStop investigating customer claims that some Nintendo Switch 2 screens were damaged
Video game retailer GameStop said Thursday that it is investigating claims made by some customers that they received damaged Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. In multiple social media posts across X and Reddit, some consumers reported an issue where it appeared a GameStop in New York had stapled receipts to their Switch 2 packages and punctured the console screens. 'GameStop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box, FML,' wrote X user Oadhan Lynch, sharing a series of pictures of the product after it had been opened. 'Genuinely insane now I'm gonna have to wait 3 months for the restock. And yes we were there for the midnight release so I bet everyone in this line is gonna have this same issue.' GameStop is 'investigating this as we speak and will make the customers whole,' a spokesperson for the retailer said in an email to NBC News. By Thursday afternoon, Lynch, who did not respond to a request for comment, shared an update on X that the store had 'made things right' by sourcing 'around NY and NJ to provide replacements to everyone who this happened to.' NBC News has reached out to others who made similar claims on social media. The consumer reports, which appear to be regionally isolated, come as gamers continue to rush to get their hands on the coveted Nintendo console, which was released Thursday. The base device sells for $449.99, or gamers can shell out $499 for the console and the new Mario Kart World. Prices didn't deter fans and gamers who waited in long lines at stores across the country. The original Switch was released eight years ago, and the hype for a new console has continued to grow in recent years. But some vying to get the Switch 2 may have a longer wait than expected, with some shortages already being reported just hours after the console's official release. 'We've been working really closely with our retail partners to ensure there's ample supply for not only the launch weekend, but well beyond,' Nintendo President and COO Doug Bowser told CNBC at the midnight launch party for the product at Nintendo's store in New York's Rockefeller Center. Others online said their Walmart orders were canceled just hours before they were due to be delivered. Some said Target was still 'preparing to ship' their orders. At the launch event, Bowser told CNBC that he encourages those who weren't able to snag a Switch 2 during the preorder period to contact their local retailer, adding that the company is continuing to work with the stores 'to replenish through that launch period and all the way into the holiday period.' In its sales forecast last month, Nintendo said that it expects to sell 15 million units of the Switch 2 console in the fiscal year ending March 2026, CNBC reported. Those who were lucky enough to get the product on Day 1 of its launch appear enthusiastic about the new updates, which include a larger, crisper screen and Joy-Cons (controllers) that snap into the side of the screen.

Chappell Roan's 'actually normal' bikini body revealed: see what the star looks like stripped down
Chappell Roan took to Instagram on Sunday night to share scantily clad photos with her 7.1 million followers. The 27-year-old pop star — who was recently mistaken for Anna Delvey — posed in a black bikini, showing off her stunning figure. One snapshot showed The Giver hitmaker giving fans an eyeful as she posed with her plump bottom on display in high-cut tie-string bikini bottoms. She captioned the carousel post, 'I am actually normal.' But Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, looked anything but ordinary as she showed off her striking beauty. Chappell looked typically gorgeous with her flaming-red curly locks falling around her. The images have so far collected 1.3 million likes from the singer's devoted online audience. It comes after earlier this year the entertainer ignited a generational divide when she said in an interview: 'I don't know a single person who is happy and has children at this age.' Recognized for her drag aesthetic and punchy feminist lyrics, Chappell identifies as a lesbian. While appearing on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, she was asked by the host if she would ever have children. She answered unequivocally: 'All of my friends who have kids are in hell. I don't know anyone who's happy and has children at this age.' The star reiterated, 'I have not met anyone who is happy, anyone who has light in their eyes, anyone who has slept [who has a child under five].' The remarks prompted a fiery debate online. Some moms insisted it 'was not an accurate or healthy message to peddle, particularly when the birth rate is down.' One person wrote: 'Chappell Roan going on Call Her Daddy saying none of her friends with kids are happy, is a prime example of why you cannot just vent to anyone.' Someone else wished, 'May the friendship of narcissistic childless women with no sense of loyalty ever find me.' Meanwhile, others related to Chappell's statements, with one person weighing in: 'The people who have made me most scared to become a mother are mothers. 'What Chappell said is all I see because lots of mothers I see are like, "This is miserable" and mothers can also be the most competitive, nasty and judgmental people.'
