Ai-CHA sets record with 300 new outlets in one year

The Sun19-06-2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesia-based ice cream and tea brand, Ai-CHA, created history when it received two recognitions from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for 'Most Ice Cream Shop Chains Opened in a Year' and 'Most Beverage Shop Chains Opened in a Year'.
To date, 300 Ai-CHA branches have opened in Malaysia over the past 12 months, with an average of almost one new branch every day.
Ai-CHA also received the 2025/2026 Consumer Choice Award from the National Consumer Action Council (MTPN) presented by the council's deputy president, Prof Jericho Tang Kit Wai.
Ai-CHA global deputy general manager Danny Tahardi said the recognition proves its commitment to excellence in the highly competitive food and beverage (F&B) industry.
'This success is a catalyst for us to continue to strive to maintain our position as a trusted brand in the local and international markets,' he said during the MBR and MTPN recognition ceremony today.
Meanwhile, Ai-CHA Malaysia director Vincent Ong said the extraordinary success was the result of the strong support of the local people as well as the effectiveness of Ai-CHA's investor-friendly franchise model.
'Ai-CHA has successfully expanded to various locations from major cities to areas that are less covered by international brands.
'These recognitions have further reinforced Ai-CHA's commitment to quality and rapid growth driven by an investor-friendly franchise model, where the initial investment is less than RM100,000,' he said.
Having reached 300 branches, Ai-CHA now plans to expand its operations to suburban and rural areas, particularly in East Malaysia where consumer demand is high but competition is low.
Ai-CHA, which currently operates in nine countries, also plans to introduce snacks such as fried chicken and french fries at selected branches, to open up new space for the brand as a preferred destination for casual snacks.

HLIB sees Sunway as prime domestic growth proxy, retains 'Buy' with RM5.90 target

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) is doubling down on Sunway Bhd's growth prospects, reiterating its BUY call with a sum-of-parts (SOP) target price of RM5.90, underpinned by rising exposure to Malaysia's accelerating economic upcycle. The investment bank's bullish stance cements Sunway as a key proxy for Malaysia's growth story heading into 2026. HLIB said Sunway is well-positioned to capitalise on domestic momentum, with multiple catalysts on the horizon – from stronger-than-expected construction order book wins and a potential conversion of its Medini land to freehold status to the planned healthcare arm listing in early 2026, which could unlock substantial shareholder value. Over the longer term, HLIB expects Sunway's property segment to stay resilient, supported by healthy take-up from phased launches, strategic landbank expansion, and leverage to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), alongside steady progress in its Singapore-based projects. HLIB said the technical outlook for Sunway remains bullish. It noted that Sunway's share price has rebounded sharply from a double-bottom at RM4.00 (January 17) and RM3.93 (April 7), breaking above its 200-day moving average (RM4.65) to hit an all-time high of RM5.16 on July 18, before closing at RM4.74 on Monday. The investment bank sees the stockholding firm above the RM4.64 support level, with upside potential towards RM4.84, RM5.00, RM5.15, and RM5.32.

Agrobank President and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin said a total of 20 participants comprising the B40 group and military veterans received a grant of RM5,000 each to support the purchase of additional equipment for cultivating a five-acre plot of land rented from Felda Global Ventures (FGV). 'This project is part of the collaboration between Agrobank and Aqina Fruits Sdn Bhd, which also involves the implementation of pineapple cultivation projects in several other locations, namely in Beaufort and Pekoti. bootstrap slideshow 'For the projects in Chuping and Beaufort, the total allocations are RM6 million each, while the project in Pekoti received the highest allocation of RM12 million,' he said in a statement. Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah said that overall, the collaboration between Agrobank and Aqina Fruits through the contract farming project under the B40 model received a total funding allocation of RM24 million. He said Agrobank, as a development financial institution, provides financing facilities of up to RM280,000 for each participant of the pineapple planting project to cover initial capital. He added that the MD2 pineapple cultivation project is among Agrobank's continuous efforts to strengthen the socio-economic development of the people, particularly among the lower-income group. 'In addition, it also serves to stimulate the growth of the agricultural sector and increase the production of pineapples in the country to meet domestic market needs as well as the export potential abroad,' he said.
