Meghalaya honeymoon murder: What Raja Raghuvanshi's mother asked Govind about Sonam during his visit?
Raja Raghuvanshi's mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, has spoken out following a meeting between her daughter-in-law Sonam's brother, Govind, and Sonam herself. Uma revealed that Govind expressed his anguish over the murder of Raja and was unequivocal in his condemnation of Sonam. 'Govind said that Sonam should be hanged. He is pained for Raja, not Sonam,' she said, emphasising that her son's brother is not at fault for the tragic events.
Uma also recounted her conversation with Govind about his brief encounter with Sonam. 'I asked Govind if he met Sonam. He said that he met her for three minutes. I asked him why he did not hit her. He said that he did not get a chance as there was media and police present,' she stated.
The brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of plotting the murder of her Indore-based husband Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, on Wednesday said he is "100 per cent" sure his sister orchestrated the crime and asserted she should be hanged if found guilty.
A distraught Govind Raghuvanshi, brother of Sonam, declared his family has snapped all ties with his sister and expressed solidarity with Raja's grieving family members and vowed to help them in their fight for justice in a case which has shocked the nation.
A court in Meghalaya's capital Shillong, on Wednesday, sent Sonam Raghuvanshi and her four aides arrested for the murder last month to eight-day police custody.
The special investigation team probing the sensational case sought police custody of the accused to reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra (also known as Cherrapunji), where the body was recovered on June 2.
Brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi, Govind, mourns with the Mother of Raja Raghuvanshi, Uma Raghuvanshi, in Indore on Wednesday
In Indore, Govind Raghuvanshi visited Raja's house to console the latter's family members. Sharing the family's grief, he hugged Raja's mother Uma and broke down.
Raja (29) and Sonam (24) got married on May 11 and went "missing" during their honeymoon trip to the north-eastern state on May 23. Sonam surfaced in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur on Sunday night where she surrendered after her accomplices and suspected contract killers, Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Anand Kurmi, were arrested for their alleged role in conspiring and killing Raja, a businessman.
Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), an alleged conspirator romantically linked to Sonam, was arrested later.
"We have received information that Sonam came to Indore from Meghalaya (after Raja's murder) and stayed in a rented flat in the city's Dewas Naka area between May 25 and 27," police officials said.
A police official associated with the investigations said in Shillong that Raja Raghuvanshi was told by his wife Sonam that she would let him consummate the marriage only after making an offering at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.
Accordingly, Raja planned their trip to Guwahati and adjacent Meghalaya for the honeymoon, while his wife and her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha allegedly plotted to kill him in the jungles of the north-eastern state, considering its perceived remoteness, he said.
"Sonam coerced her husband to take her to the deep jungles of Nongriat with the belief that the hitmen she hired would have a better chance of killing him somewhere on the route, considering it is secluded. But, since there were too many tourists trekking to Nongriat on May 22 and May 23, they couldn't kill him there," the officer said.
"They finally killed him near Weisawdong Falls, and dumped his body into a deep gorge," he said.
East Khasi Hills SP Syiem, overseeing the investigation, said the contract killers arrived in Guwahati on May 21, a day after the couple reached the Northeast.
The killers procured a machete from outside their hotel in Guwahati, and then travelled by road to Shillong, he said.

Steel businessman, wife, daughter & driver killed in car crash on Jhansi-Kanpur highway
Lucknow: Four people, a steel businessman, his wife, their daughter, and the driver, were killed in a high-speed car crash on the Jhansi-Kanpur highway near Khilli village late Wednesday. The businessman's father and three children were seriously injured in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment. The accident occurred when an XUV700 vehicle, travelling at an estimated speed of 80–90 km/h, lost control and rammed into a divider before overturning. The family was returning to Maharashtra after celebrating Bakrid in their hometown Siddharthnagar. The deceased have been identified as Ubaidur Rahman (43), a Maharashtra-based steel businessman, his wife Ashma (40), their daughter Usna Parveen (15), and their driver Amir (45). According to eyewitnesses, the impact was so severe that the vehicle was crushed, leaving all eight occupants trapped inside. Local residents, alerted by the cries for help, rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue the family. Driver Amir was found critically wedged between the steering wheel and bonnet. Despite frantic efforts and the arrival of a JCB machine to break open the car, Amir succumbed after nearly an hour of being trapped. Meanwhile, the injured — Ubaidur's father Shahbuddin (70), sons Abdullah Bahadur Rahman (10) and Aneedur Rahman (8), and daughter Eshya (6) — were rushed to a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC). Their condition is stated to be serious but stable. The bodies of the deceased were kept at the hospital morgue awaiting the arrival of family members. SP, Jhansi, BBGTS Murthy, said that preliminary investigations suggest the accident may have been caused by driver's fatigue. Ubaidur's friend Mahbulla, who was travelling in a separate vehicle towards Mumbai, said, "I was ahead of them in my car. I suspect the driver might have dozed off. I've informed the family — they're on their way." Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Sonam made 30 calls to lover in week leading up to husband's killing
Lucknow: Investigations into the murder of Indore's Raja Raghuvanshi have revealed that his wife Sonam was in regular touch with her lover Raj Kushwaha on phone till her husband's murder on May 23. In all, Sonam made 30 calls between May 16 and 23 to Raj Kushwaha, some lasting barely 30 seconds while some of a minute's duration. The calls were made at odd hours and the two exchanged messages through WhatsApp and other app-based messaging facilities almost round the clock. Call detail records (CDRs) accessed by the investigators confirm a pattern of frequent, strategic communication. Police are currently analysing message backups, app data, and location histories to establish the full extent of the conspiracy and premeditation behind the murder plot. Sources said the digital trail confirms that Sonam began coordinating with Raj on May 15, the same day the two allegedly met at a café near her home in Nandbagh, Indore—just four days after her wedding to Raja. Investigators believe this sustained digital contact was not mere communication but a carefully planned conspiracy. Police allege that Sonam paid ₹50,000 to Raj Kushwaha to fund the travel of three men—Vishal, Akash, and Anand—tasked with following the newlywed couple to Shillong. The accused trio reportedly left Indore between May 17 and 18, travelling first to Delhi by train and then boarding the Rajdhani Express to Guwahati. Meanwhile, Sonam and Raja boarded a flight from Indore to Shillong on May 20. During this time, Sonam allegedly kept Kushwaha updated with live location sharing, enabling the accused to track the couple in real-time. Police suspect that this coordination ultimately led to the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi on or around May 23. Investigators are now examining message backups, app data, GPS logs, and deleted files to reconstruct the events leading to the crime and establish the extent of premeditation and criminal conspiracy. Police sources indicate more arrests may follow as the digital footprint of the accused continues to unravel. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
