EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing star Rose Ayling-Ellis receives honorary doctorate from the University for Creative Arts

Daily Mail14-07-2025
EastEnders ' star Rose Ayling-Ellis was all smiles as she received an honorary doctorate from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in London on Monday.
The actress, 30, was recognised for her outstanding achievements both in acting and for raising awareness of the deaf community.
Rose previously graduated from the institution herself back in 2016 with a first-class BA honours degree in Fashion Design.
She went on to find fame on EastEnders and Casualty before winning Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 - and was notably the first deaf contestant to do so.
Rose said in her acceptance speech: 'I really am very honoured to receive this, especially from the very University that I graduated from.
'Work hard and enjoy the ride. Congratulations to all of us.'
As well as her acting achievements, Rose has recently fulfilled her dream of becoming a children's author, publishing her first sign language children's books earlier this year.
News of Rose's honorary degree comes after she wrote an emotional message to her fans after ITV confirmed the future of the hit crime drama she stars in, Code Of Silence.
The show, which stars the former EastEnders actress, burst onto screens earlier this year to much fanfare.
It saw Rose play deaf worker Alison Woods, who works in both a police canteen and a local bar while caring for her deaf mother to make ends meet.
Woods then becomes key to a police investigation when she translates a criminal gang's conversations as she finds herself drawn to one of the main suspects.
Kieron Moore, Charlotte Ritchie, Andrew Buchan, Nathan Armarkwei Laryea, Joe Absolom, and Fifi Garfield also starred in the first series.
Following a nail-biting finale, ITV has confirmed that Code of Silence will return for a second series.
The broadcaster also revealed a whopping 7.5 million viewers tuning into the first episode alone on TV, while over 20 million streams have been recorded across the full box set on ITVX.
In an emotional statement to fans, Rose confirmed she will reprise her role, writing: 'I'm so proud that Code of Silence has been recommissioned.
'The response to the first series has been incredible, and it means so much to be part of a drama that not only keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, but also puts a Deaf character at the heart of the story.
'I'm really excited to see where Alison's journey goes next and to be working again with the wonderful cast, crew and creative team behind the show.'
Development on the second series has kicked off, with ITV planning to begin filming next year, meaning fans will have a lengthy wait before they can enjoy new episodes.
ITV's drama commissioner, Callum Dziedzic, said: 'We are unbelievably proud of Code of Silence, and it's been a joy seeing audiences embrace it - especially their love for the skilful, headstrong, and effortlessly loveable Alison.
'Rose brings her to life with real charm and depth, and Catherine's brilliant concept gave her the perfect world to step into. We can't wait to share another gripping case, with Alison's talents and perspective delivering a thriller that's pulse-pounding, distinctive, and like nothing else on TV.'

The scales fall from Lisa's eyes in Corrie as she makes discovery about Kit

Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) has had a lot on her mind recently on Coronation Street as the recent death of a colleague brought up a lot of feelings for her about her late wife, Becky. Becky was also a police officer and she was killed while chasing a suspect. She was run over and killed by a getaway car in a tragic incident that has haunted Lisa ever since as it was veiled in a certain amount of mystery. Becky had been under investigation for corruption at the time of her death, something which meant that she and Lisa had argued on the morning she died. It also meant that Becky was denied the kind of funeral that would have seen her honoured by her fellow officers. There's also the possibility that her death might not have been an accident at all, but could have been a deliberate act arising from whatever she was involved in. Lisa has never been able to get answers to her many questions concerning Becky's death as a wall of silence seems to block all her attempts to get to the truth. In upcoming episodes she's feeling the pain of her grief even more acutely because it's the eve of her and Becky's anniversary. She skips her therapy session and goes to visit Becky's grave instead. On the anniversary itself, Carla (Alison King) and Betsy (Sydney Martin) are worried about how Lisa's coping. She insists she's fine and goes off to her therapy session. Finally she allows herself to open up to the therapist and talk about her wife. She says that she's sure there was more to Becky's death than she was ever told and worries that it was something to do with the corruption investigation. Meanwhile Carla has secretly been visiting Logan Radcliffe (Harry Lowbridge) in prison, trying to find out more about what happened to Becky. He and his brother Matty (Seamus McGoff) were involved in the incident that led to Becky's death. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? After her therapy session Lisa decides to do some digging herself and she sneaks into her boss Costello (Daon Broni)'s office, searching his email to see if there's any mention of Becky. More Trending She's disturbed to see something else, though – a request on the computer asking for access to Becky's file. It's from DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). Lisa is puzzled about why Kit would do such a thing and why he's apparently delving into Becky's background behind her back. She tells Carla that she no longer trusts Kit and she can't work with him any more. What is Kit up to? And will Lisa ever uncover the truth about what happened to her wife? Vogue readers furious after spotting 'disturbing' AI models in an ad in the prestigious magazine

It looks like fashion label Guess is not shying away from using artificial intelligence in its ad campaigns - after the brand ran a two-page spread in this month's August edition of Vogue that was 'produced' by an AI marketing company. The advertisements appeared about halfway through Vogue's August print issue, showing a woman with bouncy, long blonde hair modeling two different outfits on separate pages. The images were not part of Vogue editorial, but instead, presumably paid advertisements for the Guess brand that appeared in the famous fashion bible. In one ad, the model sat at a café table with a cup of coffee, wearing a light blue romper covered in mesh floral detailing, as well as a gold watch and necklace from the brand. The other photo depicted the same AI model in a black-and-white chevron print dress, carrying a matching Guess handbag in front of a 'shop' filled with hats in their window. In the fine print on the side of the ad, it read that the campaign was produced by 'Seraphinne Vallora on AI.' Seraphinne Vallora is an agency that designs 'editorial level AI-driven marketing campaigns and cinematic videos,' its campaigns featured not only in Vogue but also in Elle and Harper's Bazaar. On its website, London-based founders Valentina and Andreea stated that they wanted to use AI to brands' advantage. 'We want to harness the incredible power of AI to revolutionize marketing images. We realized that AI offered a cost-effective, hassle-free path to design brilliance,' the website reads. 'No more expensive travel or complicated arrangements, We wanted to make it all accessible, to companies of all sizes. 'An easy solution to market their companies without the stress and complications.' Daily Mail reached out to Guess for comment. But the advertisement didn't seem to slip past eagle-eyed fashion fans, as it went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning. Popular account Pop Crave posted a TikTok made by user @lala4an, which showed the ad. However, Pop Crave incorrectly claimed that Vogue was using the AI models - when it was in fact Guess. But even so, it looks like many fashion fans weren't happy with the choice, as they furiously responded to the Pop Crave post. 'This is kinda sad. There's so many people who would love to be on the magazine just for them to be giving these opportunities to AI…' one user wrote. Another agreed, 'That's disturbing. This is the direction AI should not be going in... wow.' 'AI is not even sparing the fashion industry,' someone else typed. One X user pointed out, 'Great. The new beauty standard will be, literally, unobtainable because it's not real.' Others, however, thought that it was a great sign for the future. 'The future is here. Takes less time and much cheaper to make,' someone shared. Another agreed, 'Well, it's cheaper.' The advertisement comes just one year after OpenAI and Vogue's publishing parent, Condé Nast, announced a partnership together, per BBC. The deal involved allowing ChatGPT and its search engine, SearchGPT, to display content from Vogue and its other publications like GQ. The deal was reported to be multi-year.

Major Emmerdale couple ‘set to reunite' as Lewis works his magic

Having just managed to turn around the fortunes of the café with his Midas touch, Emmerdale's Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) is about to go into Cupid mode as well. There is nothing this kid can't do, from growing medicinal weed to making the villagers Shakshuka eggs, now he's about to solve his brother's love woes to boot. Lewis learns about Ross Barton (Mike Parr) failed relationship with Steph (Georgia Jay) and resolves to do something about it. Ross and Steph had an unexpected relationship that flourished for a while but quickly became doomed when she learned that she was the product of sexual abuse and that her grandfather was really her father. Something like that can really put a dampener on a fledgling relationship, and for her and Ross it was too much. Steph was distraught to learn of what happened to her mother and became fixated on her looks, claiming that every glance in a mirror she saw Anthony looking back at her. After several failed attempts at plastic surgery, Steph finally broke down and despite all his support, dumped Ross to focus on herself. She told him she couldn't be the person he needed, and she was setting him free. Steph hasn't been seen much since then, but she's back. More Trending Lewis digs into Ross' relationship and finds himself intrigued by the story with Steph. It doesn't seem to have had a proper ending; it was more like bad timing.
