JAIS denies approving controversial marriage motivation programme in 2022
Its director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said on Nov 15, 2022, a JAIS-appointed clarification panel had obtained an explanation from the organiser following participants' complaints alleging that there were activities that violated Islamic teachings.
He said during the clarification session, the panel was presented with a video used by the organiser, which included a 'self-pleasure' technique for women, allegedly to strengthen marital intimacy.
Following this, the panel recommended that several aspects and approaches in the programme be revised or removed if they conflicted with Islamic law. The company was also advised to consult religious authorities or experts to ensure full compliance with Islamic law throughout its programmes.
"The organiser was also instructed to include a disclaimer stating that the video (which the panel had instructed to be revised) was intended for use by married couples only," he said.
"This advice was given to the organiser as a preventive measure against the inclusion of any content that contravenes Islamic law," he said in a statement on Monday (July 21).
Mohd Shahzihan clarified that the disclaimer suggested by the panel did not imply that the programme's entire content or modules had been approved, as the company never submitted the complete module to JAIS following the panel's recommendations to this day.
"JAIS is confident that had the company adhered to the recommendations made by the panel in 2022, the alleged incident during the programme held at the IDCC Shah Alam (Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam) would not have occurred," he said.
In line with the decision of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), he said JAIS has been tasked with reviewing and improving guidelines for organising Islamic religious and spiritual programmes by considering various incidents, including this case, that have drawn public criticism.
The revised guidelines aim to provide a more comprehensive reference for organisers wishing to hold programmes with spiritual or religious elements in Selangor.
"JAIS urges the Muslim community in Selangor to continue playing an active role by providing information and reporting any religious or spiritual programmes with suspicious content to the department.
"Accurate information from the public is crucial to help JAIS safeguard the principles and implementation of authentic Islamic teachings in line with the understanding of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah in Selangor," he added.
Previously, the company in question issued a statement claiming that its 2022 programme had received JAIS' approval after submitting clarifications to the state's religious authority.
On July 12, Mohd Shahzihan confirmed in a statement that JAIS had summoned the organiser of the marriage motivation programme in 2022 following a complaint from a former participant, who alleged that the module used in the programme was inappropriate and unsuitable. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) is organising the Al-Quran Di Mana-Mana: Tilawah dan Tadabbur programme as part of its efforts to promote daily Quran reading among Muslims. Jakim director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the campaign is being held in conjunction with the 65th International Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA), scheduled to take place at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from Aug 2 to 9. 'This campaign highlights tilawah (proper recitation) and tadabbur (contemplation) al-Quran, conveying the profound message that reading and reflecting on the Quran should not be confined to formal events alone, but can be embraced as a daily practice anywhere, on public transport, in the office, at recreational parks, or in public spaces, as part of the Islamic way of life,' he said here today. He spoke to reporters at the flag-off ceremony for participants of the Al-Quran Di Mana-Mana 2.0: Kuala Lumpur-Hatyai (Thailand) programme at the KL Sentral Electric Train Service (ETS) station. Sirajuddin said the campaign is not aimed at gaining popularity, but is a sincere call for society to return to the Quran as a lifelong companion, which is to be understood, felt, and reflected upon. He said the first segment of the campaign runs from July 29 to 31 in collaboration with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), utilising the ETS service from KL Sentral to Padang Besar, before continuing the journey to Hat Yai via the State Railway of Thailand. He said that throughout the trip, participants will engage in Quran tilawah, tadabbur and ibrah (wisdom) sessions, adding that these activities will continue at Islamic centres, mosques, surau, and community spaces in designated border areas, to enable participants to experience the message of the Quran in a deeper, more personal, and reflective manner. He added that various social and community service activities will also be carried out throughout the journey, including the distribution of aid to local communities and the waqf (endowment) of Quran copies to educational institutions, mosques, surau, and tahfiz centres. He said the second segment of the programme consists of a special Al-Quran Everywhere initiative in Bukit Bintang on July 31, carrying the message that the Quran should be upheld as a close and accessible guide for life, regardless of time or place.

Fahmi offers condolences on passing of journalist Nurulanuar
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family and friends of former Utusan Malaysia journalist Nurulanuar Mansor, who passed away yesterday. Fahmi expressed sadness over the passing of Nurulanuar, a member of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Journalists Club (KLS), whom he described as an immensely talented individual in the arts. 'He drew a caricature which he presented to me during the Malaysian Media Clubs Alliance dinner last month. 'My condolences to all of the late Nurulanuar's family members and friends. I pray they are granted patience, resilience, and strength in facing this loss,' he posted on Facebook. Biggest foundation batch starts at UM

This marks the highest number of enrolments the varsity's foundation programmes have ever recorded. The students are enrolled in the Foundation in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Islamic Studies, and Islamic Studies and Science (APIDS) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. Twin brothers Wan Muhammad Nasril and Wan Muhammad Nasrul Wan Roslan, 17, from Kuala Nerang, Kedah, expressed their joy at finally entering their dream university. 'This is the first time my twin brother and I will be living apart because we're staying in different residential colleges. It's a bit sad since we've never been separated since birth, but seeing the campus atmosphere here makes me excited to start this new chapter,' said Wan Muhammad Nasril, who aspires to become an engineer.
