Aamir Khan Says ‘Trolling' Isn't Why Laal Singh Chaddha Failed: ‘It Didn't Connect…'
Aamir Khan believes that even with the same level of trolling, films like 3 Idiots or Dangal would have still succeeded at the box office.
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has often addressed the box office failure of his film Laal Singh Chaddha, co-starring Kareena Kapoor. Recently, he talked about the heavy trolling and boycott calls that the film faced, saying that while the negativity was intense, it wasn't the reason the film failed. He explained that he believes the film failed to connect with the audience. Further, he added that even with the same level of trolling, a film like '3 Idiots' or 'Dangal' would still have performed well at the box office. He stated that no troll can stop a good film.
While speaking at Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit, Aamir Khan said, 'The trolls will only say 'boycott this' and 'boycott that'. Only negative things get put on the list. Most of them haven't even watched the trailer. I'm not just saying this for my films—this applies to everyone's work. A lot of people in society—not just actors, but across all professions—are being attacked for no reason at all. What surprises me is, why are people reacting to it? Because it's a troll who's saying it. If a sensible person had said it, then I would be concerned."
Aamir Khan Says Laal Singh Chaddha Faced Massive Trolling
He further said that when Laal Singh Chaddha released in 2022, it faced 'massive trolling'. Weeks after the release of the film, the team sat together to understand and decode what went wrong. 'We went through that post-mortem, and I remember there were some 30 of us in the room from different departments- creative, distribution, marketing, exhibition. Each one gave their reason. And if I remember correctly, everyone said that the film got a very raw deal because it was trolled so badly. That's why the film didn't do well. I disagreed with all of them."
Aamir Khan Reveals Why Laal Singh Chaddha Flopped
Further stating the reason, Aamir Khan said, 'According to me, the film did not do well because it did not connect with people. And everyone disagreed with me. They said, 'There was so much trolling, we've never seen this level of negativity for any film.' I said, yes, that's true. I'm not saying there wasn't excessive trolling. There definitely was. But imagine this- on the same day, instead of Laal Singh Chaddha, 3 Idiots released, with the same level of trolling. Would the trolling have worked? No chance! In 2–3 days, the entire tsunami would have reversed. And then all of them agreed with me. Had Dangal released that day with the same amount of trolling, would it have worked against it? No."
Directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh. It released in theatres on 11th August 2022.

Saif Ali Khan On Being Dropped From Shah Rukh Khan's Devdas: 'I Didn't Ask For Obscene Money'
Last Updated: Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor reveal why they never worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after they were dropped from Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai's Devdas. Back in the early 2000s, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had big plans for his epic romance Devdas, based on the Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel of the same name. He initially eyed Shah Rukh Khan as the main lead and considered Saif Ali Khan for the role of Chunilal. But the casting didn't go as planned, and Jackie Shroff ultimately stepped in. Contrary to popular belief, Saif never turned down the part. 'Though Sanjay Bhansali thinks I'm silly, let me make it very clear that I didn't turn him down. There was a miscommunication between us on the price. Also, let me clarify that I didn't ask for an obscene sum of money. Without getting back to me and discussing the price, Sanjay closed the chapter. Nobody even told me that the negotiations were off till I called back to find out what was happening," he explained in a 2001 interview with journalist Nilufer Qureshi. Even if he had been cast, Saif felt he wouldn't have fit the role. 'I felt I'd be hopelessly miscast as Chunilal. I didn't think the role suited Motilal either in Bimal Roy's Devdas. But at least, Motilal and Chunilal rhyme," he added. Interestingly, Kareena Kapoor, now Saif's wife, faced a similar situation with Bhansali. She revealed that she underwent a screen test for Devdas, only for the role to go to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In a candid Filmfare interview, she had said, 'He screen-tested me for Devdas, gave me a signing amount, then took someone else. That was wrong, it hurt especially because I was at the start of my career. It's okay, because the day he dropped me, I signed Yaadein. Sanjay hurt me. Even if I have no work, I'll never work with him." Sanjay Leela Bhansali, however, reacted to the claims by clarifying that taking a screen test doesn't guarantee casting Kareena Kapoor Says Her Bond With Sanjay Leela Bhansali Is 'Love And War' In a candid chat with Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor recently said, 'Of course, he is the Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Love and War is actually me and Sanjay. You can tell him that. He will understand. We have love and war." Caught off-guard, Vicky asked, 'What is it now? Love or war?" Kareena said, 'We are always fluctuating." Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2002, is a lavish adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit, the film was praised for its grand sets, music, and performances. It won multiple awards and was India's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, cementing its place as one of Bollywood's most iconic cinematic adaptations.
