Egypt has firmly secured its position as the world's leading exporter of frozen strawberries for the second consecutive year, shipping over 353,000 metric tons in 2024 and generating $383 million in export revenue, according to the Export Council for Food Industries.
The country captured an impressive 27% share of the global market, topping more than 100 international destinations, reflecting Egypt's rising prominence in global agri-food supply chains and the enduring trust in the quality, safety, and competitiveness of its produce.
Double-Digit Growth in Demand and Revenue
Egypt's frozen strawberry exports have grown at an average annual rate of 26% in value and 24% in volume from 2020 to 2024. The most recent export cycle (2023–2024) witnessed a 14% year-on-year increase in export value, signaling a sharp uptick in global demand for the Egyptian product.
'This sustained growth is no accident—it's the result of a coordinated effort between public and private stakeholders to enhance product quality and meet stringent international food safety standards,' the Council said in a statement.
Top Markets: China Leads the Way
The five largest importers of Egyptian frozen strawberries in 2024 were:
China – $41.9 million (11% of Egypt's total exports)
Germany – $41.8 million
Russia – $31.1 million
United States – $30.9 million
Poland – $30.5 million
Together, these five markets accounted for 46% of Egypt's total frozen strawberry exports, highlighting the product's appeal across Asia, Europe, and North America.
A Case Study in Agro-Export Success
Industry experts say Egypt's dominance in the frozen strawberry market reflects several strategic advantages:
A long harvest season enabling extended processing windows
Competitive labor and logistics costs
Government support for export certification, traceability, and food safety systems
Modern cold chain infrastructure and packing facilities
The Export Council emphasized that Egypt's success in this category should be leveraged to expand into new markets, particularly in Asia and Latin America, while also investing in value-added agricultural processing and product diversification.
'There is a real opportunity to build on this momentum,' the Council stated. 'We must continue enhancing Egypt's global export brand by adding more processed food lines, penetrating emerging markets, and increasing market share in strategic regions.'
Global Recognition and National Impact
Frozen strawberries are now among Egypt's top-performing agricultural exports, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings and employment in the Delta region, where much of the strawberry cultivation and processing is based.
Economic analysts see the sector as a blueprint for how Egypt can scale agricultural exports, attract foreign investment, and improve rural development—all while gaining soft power through trusted food products.
With global demand for affordable, high-quality frozen fruit rising, Egypt's strawberry industry appears well-positioned for sustained growth in the years ahead.

FM holds meetings with African counterparts in Malabo

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty held a series of bilateral meetings with his African counterparts as well as senior officials of the African Union (AU). The meetings involved the foreign ministers of Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania, Djibouti, Somalia, Angola, Burundi, Gabon, and Mauritania, alongside AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Bankole Adeoye, Director-General of the AU Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Space Agency (AfSA) Tidiane Ouattara, and Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Wamkele Mene. These discussions were held on the sidelines of his participation in the 47th ordinary session of the AU's Executive Council in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khallaf stated that the minister underscored Egypt's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with African countries. The meetings focused on mechanisms to activate bilateral cooperation and strengthen trade, investment, and economic relations. The talks also covered Egypt's potential contributions to major development projects in the continent, leveraging the extensive expertise and capabilities of leading Egyptian companies in key sectors, such as energy, construction, healthcare, and infrastructure. The talks also included an exchange of views on regional developments, stressing the importance of coordinating positions within African and international fora, and intensifying joint efforts to advance regional integration and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the continent. Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's ongoing efforts to support development in Africa, particularly through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has, over the years, contributed to building the capacities of thousands of African professionals and implementing development projects in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, water, and energy. He affirmed Egypt's aspiration to broaden the reach of EAPD's programs and initiatives to benefit a greater number of African states, as part of its enduring commitment to supporting its African partners and promoting sustainable development across the continent. Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt's steadfast commitment, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and in his capacity as Chair of the Steering Committee of Heads of State and Government of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), to deepening South-South cooperation and advancing continental integration, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), in line with Egypt's strategic orientation toward strengthening economic partnerships in the continent. He further stressed the importance of strengthening joint African action and fostering unity in the face of mounting challenges, reaffirming Egypt's continued commitment to playing its pivotal role in supporting efforts to achieve development, peace, and stability across the continent. He reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering commitment to supporting the priorities of the African continent and the AU's Agenda 2063, as well as to advancing regional integration and sustainable development. He underlined the importance of supporting specialized African institutions, most notably the AfSA, noting Egypt's full backing for the Agency and its readiness to strengthen its capabilities, particularly in light of Cairo serving as its host city. He expressed his appreciation for the African support extended to Egypt's candidate Khaled al-Anany for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), noting that such support exemplifies the spirit of African solidarity. He stressed the importance of preserving a unified African voice in international forums, as a means to advance the continent's legitimate aspirations and strengthen its position within multilateral organizations.

Egyptians abroad require more than just mere remittances: Official

The Coordinator of the Specialized Council for Economic Development affiliated with the Egyptian Presidency, Hussein Eissa, said that Egyptians abroad are always concerned about their homeland, and their interest in it goes beyond mere remittances despite the importance of them. Expatriates are always eager to buy apartments or villas in Egypt, he noted, and as they enjoy clean and well-maintained restaurants, cafes or gardens they have a vested interest towards any developments in the national infrastructure. Eissa continued that in addition to meeting their desires, all that must be done is encourage them to invest further. Certain economic entities must approach them directly, he added, offering them forms of participation in new or existing companies alongside explaining to them opportunities to diversify their investment portfolios to capitalize on the current investment momentum and simultaneously enhance their contribution to the country's development. The new tax reforms could encourage Egyptians abroad to invest more, especially as they see the appreciation for local investors, he said. Eissa explained that Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk told him that a second, third, and fourth package of tax reforms would be forthcoming, and that the goal was for financiers to be partners, not enemies. He added that the Finance Minister also emphasized that he was not concerned with the outcome, as these would come later after building up trust and proper partnerships. Kouchouk revealed that the package of facilities was not a top-down idea, Eissa said, adding that the minister would eventually leave his post, but the employees would remain. Therefore, he personally sought to convince them and gain their support for the new approach. Eissa said that tax evasion is primarily due to bureaucratic complications. He estimates that these complications are responsible for 70 percent of Egypt's tax problem and the weak revenue as a percentage of GDP. He also notes that the other 30 percent is due to deviant or improper behavior, taking into account that the more bureaucratic complications there are, the worse human behavior is, and vice versa.
