Zawya23-04-2025

The Department of Tourism and its entity, South African Tourism (SAT), appeared before the Portfolio Committee on Tourism yesterday to present their annual performance plans for the 2025/26 financial year and their strategic plans for 2025–2030, which aim to situate South Africa as a preferred and competitive tourism destination regionally, continentally and globally.
The department assured the committee that, unlike before, its strategy is aligned to the government's Medium-Term Development Plan and will have the capacity to deliver the strategy as planned.
The department said it provides small, medium and micro enterprises in the sector with financial and non-financial capabilities required for them to become financially literate. It also helps these enterprises to develop business plans, market their products and run their businesses profitably while using digital technology to bring about transformation, inclusivity and beneficiation of youth, women and people living with disabilities in the tourism sector.
The committee Chairperson, Ms Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe, told the department to brief the committee on the partnership model it has with critical stakeholders and how it intends to use its marketing budget to leverage these partnerships and synergies to enhance its tourism assets, products and services. The briefing must also include a timeline on when it intends to implement its digital transformation strategy.
Ms Mnganga-Gcabashe also urged the department to set clear guidelines and milestones on when it intends to present the Tourism Amendment Act before the committee and when it will be introduced as an act of law.
In its presentation, SAT stated that its 2025–2030 strategic mission is to enhance South Africa's profile as leading regional, continental and global tourism destination. This it will achieve by ensuring that its platforms provide a high quality and inclusive visitor experience, while ensuring organisational excellence and a high-performance culture along with knowledge-driven marketing and quality assurance strategies.
Ms Mnganga-Gcabashe reiterated that digital marketing should be at the core of SAT's marketing strategy given its unparallel reach in disseminating tourism products and assets regionally, continentally and globally.

According to the Philippines' Department of Tourism (DoT), in a consequent email interview, initiatives such as overseas presence of the tropical country as a prime medical and wellness tourism destination shall continue. For the first time, it was in April 2024, when the DoT led a public-private delegation, consisting of hospital-dental-wellness facilities and health tourism facilitator for the 'health sales mission' to the UAE (Abu Dhabi and Dubai) and Saudi Arabia (Riyadh). DoT-Office of Product and Market Development director Dr Paulo Benito Tugbang, physician/nurse/midwife, who used to be responsible for the Department of Health-Medical Travel and Wellness Tourism Programme as well as former Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases member, then said that the purpose was to encourage Middle East travel trade professionals consider the medical and wellness offerings of the Philippines, inasmuch as Filipino healthcare workers have been admired for their dedication and commitment. Again, with the purpose of capturing the Arab Market, known for their 'culture of medical travel,' DoT partnered with the Dubai-based Agora Group management firm for the Philippine participation at the June 2023 '1st International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress in Dusseldorf, Germany. This was followed by the October 2024 Philippine-hosting of the second edition of the international event in Taguig City, Metro Manila. Moreover, DoT signed a five-year deal with Thailand, internationally recognised for its medical tourism portfolio in January 2025, covering the areas of tourism cooperation, exchange of best practices, and human resources development. It participated in the May 2024 International Wellness Tourism Expo in Tokyo, Japan. It also had embarked on other 'strategic activities' in Singapore and Malaysia 'with potential industry partners' so that the Philippines would be in 'the radar of regional and international community.' These, as encapsulated in the National Tourism Development Plan 2022-2028 of the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Administration, shall be the continuous enhancement of healthcare accessibility, promotion of sustainable tourism practices, and delivery of world-class experiences, for the locals and foreign visitors alike. It was a fortnight back when Gulf Today received a press release concerning 'The Global Wellness Economy: The Philippines.' The assessment revealed that 'the country's wellness market' with 11 sectors responsible for the delivery of products and services for one's health and wellness had expanded 21 per cent from $35.8 billion to $43.3 billion between 2019 and 2023. The press release quoted chairperson and chief executive officer Susie Ellis, of the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), into the awareness and education campaign for the necessary lifestyle changes against non-communicable diseases prevalent worldwide: 'The Philippines has a thriving wellness economy, and we are thrilled that its DoT has continued their partnership with us for this deep dive into the data that really showcase where the growth and potential lies.' 'Blessed with natural wonders, the Philippines is an ideal destination for nature-based wellness and relaxation, and the authentic Filipino wellness offerings mean that the country has something truly unique to share with the world,' Ellis also said. In the country assessment and compared with 217 countries and territories, GWI had quantified, that from 2022 to 2023 alone, six of 11 health and wellness economy sectors in the Philippines posted double digit annual growth rates relative to the global market size served. Areal Chain Announces Launch of Layer 1 Blockchain at Crypto Expo Dubai 2025

Crypto Expo Dubai 2025, capturing the attention of global investors, fintech leaders, and institutional players. Built with a clear purpose — to tokenize real-world assets — Areal Chain is introducing a secure and scalable solution that presents a secure and scalable approach to aligning blockchain with the physical economy Tokenizing real, income-producing assets such as real estate, oil, and hospitality infrastructure, Areal Chain's Layer 1 protocol shifts the narrative from hype-driven crypto projects to practical blockchain networks regulated by law and utility-based. The solution enables high-throughput smart contract execution and asset-backed coin issuance as the foundational piece for real-world economic products. ADVERTISEMENT Areal Chain's architecture is designed to link on-chain product innovations to off-chain assets. By utilizing a smart contract framework, developers and institutions are able to create tokenized investment products with a higher level of transparency, compliance, and payment potential. 'Real blockchain impact is only achieved through the intersection of trust and tech,' said Sripriya Kalyanasundaram, CEO of Areal Chain. 'We built something secure enough for the enterprise level and steady enough for the long-term investors.' What differentiates Areal Chain is its unique staking model, where yields are not determined by inflationary tokenomics but instead by actual income coming from the tokenized assets. This introduces an alternative model for on-chain rewards tied to real-world asset performance tied to real business activities involving rental income, energy products, or hospitality earnings. There was a strong interest from venture funds and asset managers at the Dubai Crypto Expo 2025, with partnerships in place and discussions already taking place with institutional partners focused on regulated asset tokenization and enterprise blockchain implementations across the GCC and Singapore. 'Our Layer 1 is more than just a blockchain — it is the bridge to the future of regulated, asset-backed digital finance,' Mohammad Khan, Brand Leader and Board Member, Areal Chain, added. 'We are here to start a change.' The Areal Chain is launching into the market with a working system, integrations with real assets, a forward-thinking regulatory strategy, and global staking programs, token sales, and B2B onboarding planned for Q3 and Q4 2025.
