In a significant escalation in counter-terrorism efforts, three terrorists were killed, and one soldier was injured in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district as 'Operation Akhal' stretched into its third day on Sunday (August 3).
The operation, which has already resulted in the death of six terrorists, has put the spotlight on the relentless efforts of security forces to curb militancy in the region.
Operation based on precise intelligence inputs
The operation began on Friday when security forces, acting on precise intelligence inputs, launched a cordon and search operation in the dense Akhal forest area of south Kashmir.
The situation quickly escalated when a group of terrorists, concealed by the forest cover, opened fire on the joint team comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

An initial exchange of fire ensued, but operations were paused on Friday night due to challenging conditions.
On Saturday, the operation resumed with renewed intensity, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists.
According to reports, these individuals were affiliated with the Resistance Front (TRF), a splinter group of Pakistan-based outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The TRF had previously claimed responsibility for the devastating Pahalgam terror attack, which tragically claimed the lives of '26 civilians.'
As the operation entered its third day, the Akhal forest area reverberated with the sounds of 'blasts and firing' throughout the night.
High-tech surveillance systems and elite paramilitary units have been deployed to neutralise the remaining threats. The operation is being closely overseen by the Director General of Police (DGP) and the 15 Corps Commander.
This operation follows a series of successful counter-terrorism missions in the region. Just days earlier, security forces neutralised Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam massacre in ' Operation Mahadev' near Srinagar's Dachigam area. On July 29, another operation, dubbed 'Shiv Shakti,' resulted in the killing of two additional terrorists by the Indian Army.
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
Since the April 22 attack, security forces have made significant progress, eliminating approximately '20 high-profile terrorists' in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a first ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor, Pakistan Army indulge in ‘unprovoked' firing in Poonch

In the first ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor in May, Pakistan army on Tuesday (August 5,. 2025) evening indulged in "unprovoked" firing on forward Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said. The Indian Army strongly retaliated and the exchange of small arms firing between the two sides continued for nearly 15 minutes in the Mankote sector, they said. There was no immediate report of any casualty, the officials said, adding security forces have been put on high alert all along the border in view of the ceasefire violation that coincided with the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile State of J&K, and its bifurcation into two Union territories. The sources said that the firing from across the border started at 7.40 PM on forward posts and the Indian troops retaliated befittingly. Indian and Pakistani militaries engaged in intense clashes between May 7 and 10 after India launched missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The border clashes, however, died down after the two countries reached an understanding. At least 28 persons were killed in Pakistani shelling, missile and drone attacks along the LoC in J&K with 13 of these deaths reported in Poonch district alone.

Pakistan-Iran Nuclear Nexus Triggers Alarm Bells in US, Big Trade Pact Raises Eyebrows In India In a move with deep geopolitical implications, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has openly supported Iran's right to develop nuclear capability for peaceful purposes, just weeks after Israel and the United States jointly bombed Iranian nuclear sites. This bold endorsement comes during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's two-day state visit to Islamabad, where both nations signed major bilateral trade deals and pledged cooperation on anti-terrorism. The development has triggered strategic alarm in both New Delhi and Washington. India, a key player in the Indo-Pacific, is watching this growing Iran-Pakistan nexus with concern amid rising regional instability. Meanwhile, the US may impose sanctions or retaliatory moves, especially under Trump's aggressive foreign policy doctrine. Has a new axis of defiance emerged in South Asia? And what could it mean for India, Israel, and the global balance of power?#iranpakistan #irannuclearprogram #shehbazsharif #masoudpezeshkian #iranisraelconflict #pakistanforeignpolicy #nucleardiplomacy #usiranrelations #trumpiran #middleeastgeopolitics #iranrightsnuclear #israeliranwar #breakingnews #iranpaktraderelations #uncharternuclear #india #breakingnews #trending #bharat #toi #toibharat #indianews 14.5K views | 1 day ago
