Punters go wild over ‘insane' headliners for Aussie music festival

News.com.au01-05-2025
Finally an Australian music festival story that isn't bad news.
Amid what feels like a never-ending slew of Aussie music festival cancellations, Spilt Milk festival this morning announced their 2025 line-up – and organisers have pulled off quite the coup, with two of the biggest rappers in the world as headliners.
This year's Super Bowl halftime performer Kendrick Lamar and Doechii, who scored a recent Aussie number one with her hit Anxiety, will headline Spilt Milk across four festival dates in December.
Both rappers have had huge years: Lamar swept the Grammys with his brutal Drake diss track Not Like Us, while Doechii's debut mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal has turned her from critical darling to top-charting rap star.
Also on the line-up are Dominic Fike and ScHoolboy Q, d4vd, Nessa Barrett, Sofia Isella, Skin On Skin, sombr, Club Angel, The Rions, South Summit and more.
The initial reaction from Aussie punters – starved of a good line-up announcement amid all those cancellations – has been overwhelmingly positive.
'spilt milk line-up is actually insane,' one fan raved on X. Another agreed: 'spilt milk getting kendrick, doechii & dominic fike is kinda insane.'
'SPILT MILK LINE UP ATE OMFG,' was another all-caps rave.
'how tf did spilt milk afford kendrick lamar?' another asked.
Another wondered how the Grammy winner would enjoy the festival's most rural date: 'No way Kendrick is gonna be strolling around Ballarat …'
It's quite the comeback after Spilt Milk organisers announced in July last year that the 2024 edition of the festival would not go ahead. 'We couldn't get you the Spilt Milk you deserve this year,' they explained, amid reports that it had been difficult to attract international headliners.
They joined the ranks of Aussie festivals who'd announced cancellations, among them Splendour in the Grass, Groovin the Moo, You & Me and Harvest Rock. Even Byron Bay's iconic Bluesfest will soon be no more, with organisers announcing that this year's festival would be the last.
Spilt Milk festival dates

Saturday 13 December 2025 – Exhibition Park, Canberra | Ngunnawal

‘Little prick to the ego': Poll shows most Aussies unaware of Labor's economic roundtable

Sky News host Paul Murray discusses how Australian politicians all think they are 'rockstars' and winners of popularity polls. 'Jim Chalmers and the week he is due to have at the economic reform roundtable, now remember when this was supposed to be about productivity, but productivity puts people to sleep but economic reform is a big general term… that also puts people to sleep,' Mr Murray said. 'You know what I love? I love when politicians and, basically all bar a few … they all think they're rockstars.'

Costeen Hatzi gives ‘behind the scenes' details on relationship with ex, Nick Kyrgios

Costeen Hatzi has opened up on life after love with a global tennis star following her recent split with Aussie champ, Nick Kyrgios. Neither Kyrgios or the popular influencer, 26, have revealed the reason their romance came to an end, but Hatzi has now said she will never bad mouth her former partner, regardless of what has gone on between them. 'Friends and family have given me great advice to just focus on myself and be the classier person when it comes to the break-up,' she told Stellar magazine in her first interview since the split. 'I've really taken that on board, because I don't want to ruin his name. 'Sometimes my emotions get the better of me, but then I remember that it's not in my nature to say anything bad about him. We still had a beautiful relationship, even though things didn't turn out the way [I'd hoped]. I've found peace within myself, and I hope he's happy. I don't wish bad upon him at all.' The pair went public with their relationship in January 2022, after meeting by chance a few months earlier when Hatzi was selling a mirror on Instagram. But in March of this year, rumours began swirling the pair had called time on their relationship, fuelled by a string of cryptic social media posts including one where Hatzi appeared to say that she was 'divorced'. The pair have since completely erased each other from their social media accounts. Hatzi, who was regularly seen courtside supporting her now ex, said the break-up has left her with a lot of time on her hands as she'd previously supported the tennis champ's gruelling sporting schedule. 'I was fully supportive of him. I went to all the tournaments. I was doing everything behind the scenes – his washing, his cooking … everything,' she told the publication. 'And I was happy to do that, because I loved him and we had a great relationship at the time. So I don't regret anything that I've done. 'It's different now. I have all this time for myself. I'm in a really reflective but motivated place. It's definitely been a bit of an adjustment, but I mentally prepared myself for that; it wasn't a shock. This year has been like a transition period.' She added that while there are days where she's 'not 100 per cent happy', she's confident that the split with Kyrgios – who is often labelled the 'bad boy of tennis' due to his controversial on-court behaviour – was the right decision and she's focused on the future. 'Going through a break-up is not going to tear me down or upset me too much. I just need to look forward and throw myself into work, throw myself into fitness and that's what I've been doing, really.' Indeed, a quick scroll of her social media feed shows she's certainly putting the relationship in the past, with snaps showing Hatzi currently travelling through Europe, visiting Spain and Italy. On one bikini photo, fans were quick to pour praise on the influencer, labelling her pink two-piece 'a vibe'. 'It's giving Barbie on holiday,' one commented. 'Forever obsessed with you,' said another. As someone else declared: 'Wow I'm speechless you are 100 per cent the queen.' Meanwhile one cheekily jibed, 'Nick who?'.

‘Real and right': Why Lynne McGranger wanted Irene's Home and Away exit to matter

It's fair to say there is a tendency in soap land to ensure that every high-profile departure has a high-octane exit to match. Throughout the years, shows such as Home and Away and Neighbours have delivered all sorts of memorable farewells involving earthquakes, explosions, cult kidnappings and, of course, that time Toadie drove his new wife off a cliff on their wedding day. The dramatic goodbye has become a staple of the genre, but when Lynne McGranger decided to call time on her 33-year stint as the loveable Irene on Home and Away, she was determined to do the opposite. 'In Summer Bay, we get abducted, we get blown up in hospitals, we end up in a cult, or we get hit by a bus outside the diner,' says McGranger, who announced her departure in February. 'But I didn't want that for Irene, it had to feel real and right.' For McGranger – whose portrayal of Irene recently earned her the Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television – leaving the show presented an opportunity to do something 'educational and age-appropriate'. 'I sat down with Jessica Redmayne, who is one of our beautiful young actresses on the show, she plays Harper,' explains McGranger. 'In 2023, Jess' mum Tina died of Alzheimer's, and that planted the seed in my head.' Dementia is the second leading cause of death among all Australians, and the leading cause of death for Australian women. It's also most prevalent in those aged 65 and over, a fact not lost on the 72-year-old McGranger. 'There are millions of people who watch this show every week, and if Irene's battle could encourage even a few people to seek help if they need it, then it would all be worth it,' says McGranger. After speaking with Redmayne, McGranger approached the show's head writer, Louise Bowes, with a proposal; Irene, one of Home and Away's most loved characters, should exit the series after being diagnosed with dementia.
