Phil's joy in EastEnders as Nigel returns to the Square - and a decision is made

Metro21-07-2025
Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) was left concerned in EastEnders tonight when he learnt that Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) had gone missing.
Nigel moved back to Scotland with wife Julie Bates (Karen Henthorn) last week, after Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) contacted her with Nigel's whereabouts.
Julie had no idea that Nigel had left because he'd been diagnosed with young-onset dementia, and had taken to social media to try and track him down.
In tonight's episode, a confused Nigel made his way back to London, where Phil learnt that Julie had no idea where he was.
Thankfully, Callum Highway (Tony Clay) and Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) managed to track him down and bring him home.
With Nigel safe, Phil and Julie soon began to row about where Nigel should stay, before Nigel interrupted, insisting that it should be his decision.
To Phil's joy and relief, Nigel decided that he wanted to stay in Walford with him.
This was difficult for Julie to accept, but after some thinking she accepted that London was where Nigel felt most comfortable, and decided to set him free.
Meanwhile, Phil was also struggling, with his brain and heart having two different ideas about how best to deal with Nigel's sitaution.
Fortunately, Yolande was on hand to offer some solid advice when Phil pointed out that while Nigel didn't want to leave, he also didn't want to hurt Julie.
As Phil argued that Julie wasn't equipped to care for Nigel, Yolande suggested that she needed someone to guide her, which gave Phil an idea. More Trending
Following Julie's decision to leave Nigel with Phil, he revealed that she didn't have to go, and offered her the spare room so that she could stay with Nigel.
It was clear that Nigel was thrilled by this, as he immediately took her bags upstairs.

Suki and Eve's marriage implodes in early EastEnders BBC iPlayer release

Eve and Suki's marriage is on the line (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) This article contains spoilers for tonight's episode of EastEnders, which airs at 7.30pm on BBC One or can be streamed now on iPlayer. Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal) and wife Eve (Heather Peace) have come to blows over a plan to take custody of Avani Nandra-Hart's (Aaliyah James) unborn child. As viewers know, Avani confided in best mate Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) that she thought she could be pregnant with twisted Joel Marshall's (Max Murray) baby. Her worst fears were realised when a test gave a positive result. Adamant that she wanted an abortion, Suki dropped a huge bombshell and proposed raise the child as her own. This was without addressing the situation with Eve first. When the idea was raised, Eve remained insistent that she never wanted children of her own, partly down to her mother's homophobic comments in her youth that made her believe that she wouldn't be a good mother. Suki urged her to put those concerns to one side, and just as she warmed to the idea, Avani burst in and assumed she'd agreed. Avani discovered she was pregnant (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) Suki overstepped, telling Eve she reminded her of wicked ex-husband Nish (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) In today's instalment, Eve was under the belief that Avani had purposely got pregnant in order to provide a child for Suki. She was furious at the thought of being deceived, and struggled to find a way to explain it. As tensions began to rise, she branded the behaviour as abuse. Suki was incredulous to see her wife escalating the row, comparing her attitude to wicked ex-husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry). With no resolution being found, Suki boldly announced that she would raise the baby on her own. After all, Avani was her family, not Eve's. A devastated Eve then headed to the pub to drown her sorrows, and a heart to heart with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner). At one point, she considered telling Avani's parents Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) and Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) about the unfolding situation, but decided instead to go home and face Suki. Avani staged an intervention, with Suki offering a heartfelt apology. But what will Eve do next? You'll have to tune in tonight to find out, or stream now on iPlayer! The timeless, spectacular action combined with a simple yet poignant story makes this one of the prime examples of a blockbuster film at its best." With Gladiator's departure from BBC iPlayer looming at midnight on August 2, UK viewers have mere days left to enjoy this widely acclaimed cinematic masterpiece from the comfort of their homes.

Supernatural thriller fans insist 'give it a chance' after BBC drops 16 episodes

The mega fans of Interview with the Vampire might already be well acquainted with another series of occult novels from the author Anne Rice. The trilogy Mayfair Witches has been adapted into two eight-part seasons of TV, starring The White Lotus's Alexandra Daddario, and the BBC has just added the second season to iPlayer. Daddario plays the preternaturally gifted surgeon Rowan Fielding, an adoptee aching to connect with her birth family, who learns she can hurt people with the power of her mind. Here comes the lore, because in Rowan's mission to learn more about herself, she discovers she is heir to a lineage of numerous such powerful women. But there's a dark legacy attached to her family tree, as she comes to discover in a saga of sex, death and magic across the years. Rowan is joined along the way by Lasher, a shapeshifter that has been bound to the family for generations, and is cryptically played in its most common form by Jack Huston. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'Things don't end well for the women in this family,' Rowan is told during her quest for answers. And we start to get a sense why, with a smattering of flashbacks from the present New Orleans setting to a 17th-century Scottish village. There, we see a past generation of Mayfairs grapple with being women with witchy reputations and the stigma attached in the eyes of religious authorities. In amongst the secrets, murders and various dances, there are also gestures to Mayfairs even further back. There might be some ropey Scottish accents along the way, but a strong contingent of fans have urged viewers not to judge the show against the books, given it's not a wholly faithful adaptation of Rice's trilogy. Those existing outside the Mayfair book universe have praised the show as a spooky watch that's worth giving a go, in spite of a fairly low Rotten Tomatoes rating (59%). Taking to Google reviews, Leia Sadinsky wrote: 'From the first episode, I was hooked—the storytelling unfolds in such an intriguing way, keeping me captivated as each new piece of the mystery falls into place. More Trending 'If you're on the fence about watching because of the reviews—give it a chance. You might just find yourself just as enchanted as I am.' 'As someone who hasn't read the novels & loves fantasy that takes hints from real life – I recommend it to all those who might have enjoyed series like Sabrina on Netflix,' echoed Maha Zainab Ishtiaq. Stephanie Lily added: 'So many bad reviews from those who read the book, I guess I'm happy I didn't because I am really captured by the story! I highly recommend!'
