Arsenal loanee set for month off after elimination
Cruzeiro had topped Group C in the group stage, finishing with a record of three wins, two draws and three defeats. But after a 1-1 draw with America-MG in their subsequent semi-final first leg, Cruzeiro knew they had to win away from home to reach the final.
Despite starting five of his team's eight group games, Marquinhos dropped to the bench for the semi-final tie, playing five minutes of the first leg and 25 minutes of the second leg.
The two teams drew 1-1 again, sending the tie to penalties, and America-MG won the shootout 4-2. Marquinhos didn't take one.
America-MG will face Atletico Mineiro in a two-legged final, whilst Cruzeiro have a break from competitive matches until the Brazilian Serie A kicks off on March 29th.
Cruzeiro will also be taking part in the Copa Sudamericana this season, but they've already qualified for the group stage, which begins on April 1st.
The Brazilian side also don't enter the Copa do Brasil until the third round, with only lower-ranked teams contesting the first two rounds of competition – similar to the FA Cup in England.
In the meantime, Marquinhos will get a bit of a break from match action with his loan club. He's played 10 games so far, earning 551 minutes on the pitch, scoring once, and assisting once.

Florida football center Jake Slaughter is a USA TODAY Sports 2025 preseason All-American
USA TODAY Sports released its preseason All-America teams ahead of the 2025 campaign and included one Florida Gator among the three-team deep roster. Redshirt senior center Jake Slaughter was the lone member of the Orange and Blue to get the call, but the good news is that he made the prestigious first-team list, placing him among the best of the best offensively in college football this fall. "Slaughter is odds-on favorite to capture the Rimington Trophy as the nation's top center," Paul Myerberg notes in reference to the highly heralded Gator. The 6-foot-5-inch, 303-pound offensive lineman has already put together an impressive preseason resume, being named to the Lombardi Trophy watch list, as well as the Rimington Trophy and Outland Trophy watch lists, while also being named to the Sporting News' and ESPN's preseason All-America First Teams — not to mention a first-teamer on the coaches' All-SEC team. Jake Slaughter's 2024 stats Slaughter started all 13 games in 2024, amassing a mountain of awards, including the AP All-SEC First-Team, ESPN All-American, PFF All-American First-Team, 247Sports/CBS All-American Second-Team, CFN All-American Second-Team, Phil Steel All-American Fourth-Team and USA TODAY Sports All-SEC First-Team. He was ranked fifth nationally among centers last year with an offense grade of 81.1, while ranking seventh in the country with a run block grade of 79.0. He also led the team in PFF offense, pass-block and run-block grades, as well as the offensive line as a whole in 800 snaps played. Report – Udinese Center-Back Becomes Inter Milan Top Defensive Target
Inter Milan will reportedly focus on signing Udinese center-back Oumar Solet in the final days of the transfer window. According to Foot Mercato via FCInterNews, the Frenchman has become Inter's top target after dropping interest in Ademola Lookman. Signing a new central defender has become a priority for the Nerazzurri, with Benjamin Pavard expected to leave soon. Even if the Frenchman stays, Cristian Chivu's men will try to lure Oumar Solet away from Udinese. (Photo by) Solet's versatility and ability to play in different defensive set-ups have caught Inter's eye. Furthermore, they are ready to overlook rape allegations and give Solet the benefit of the doubt. However, the 25-year-old won't come cheap, with Udinese slapping a €30 million price tag on their in-demand defender. After missing out on Loic Bade and Renato Veiga, Inter are pushing hard to sign Solet before the transfer window closes. Pavard's sale would likely facilitate Solet's arrival, but Inter are still negotiating with foreign suitors. Nonetheless, they will continue pursuing Solet aggressively.

Time to pay: Corinthians owe Memphis Depay 1.7 million euros
Corinthians reportedly owe Memphis Depay 1.7 million euros, according to Brazilian media outlet Lance. The Brazilian giants are currently facing major financial difficulties and still have a significant outstanding debt with Memphis. These are bonuses that were agreed upon when the Dutch national team's all-time top scorer signed in Brazil a year ago. Corinthians must transfer the entire sum to Memphis by the end of today, although the Brazilian club are trying to postpone the deadline. It is unclear whether Memphis is willing to agree with this. When Memphis arrived, Corinthians had to secure sponsors to finalise the deal for the 31-year-old striker. However, this financial arrangement didn't include bonuses. Even after selling Kauê Furquim to Bahia for over two million euros, Timão continues to struggle with cash flow problems. Memphis hasn't trained in recent days due to an injury and after reportedly being home with a virus. Earlier this summer, he also issued Corinthians an ultimatum regarding outstanding payments. This caused quite a stir among club management and supporters. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield
