Best Vs. Worst Movie Parents

Best Vs. Worst Movie Parents

Buzz Feed2 days ago
Movie parents can truly make or break a character's journey — or sometimes even the entire plot. Whether they're supporting their children every step of the way, or failing them so horrifically that it deserves a sentence, movie parents have a serious impact.
So today I'm breaking down the good, the bad, and the ugly. We're talking about movie parents that are so great, you want to crawl into the screen and ask them to become adopted. BUT, we're also talking about the parents that are so awful, they deserve to go to jail. Or at the very least, movie jail.
Let's start with the best movie parents:
Dill and Rosemary Penderghast from Easy A make parenting look easy. These two are cool parents that are actually cool. They support Olive in her times of need, without ever stepping too far. They're the ultimate movie parents.
Molly and Arthur Weasley from Harry Potter are the magical duo that we all love and deserve. They raised 7 kids, welcomed Harry like he was their own, and somehow still made time to knit sweaters.
Elastigirl from The Incredibles protected her kids (including a newborn), helped save the world, and literally stretched herself thin. We love a multitasking queen.
Tess Coleman from Freaky Friday may have had a mother-daughter fight that let to a body swap...But ultimately it was out of love. She's a rockstar and plus, she's Jamie Lee Curtis, what can we say?
Mel Horowitz from Clueless was tough on the outside, but a total softie on the inside. His iconic line, "You divorce wives, not children," sums up his dedication to Cher. He shows up and always looks out for her.
Mac and Brenda MacGuff from Juno handled teenage pregnancy like bosses. They support Juno throughout her journey, all while being funny too.
Tom and Kate Baker from Cheaper by the Dozen somehow had the patience to have 12 children, and raised them with patience and love. Their family dynamic was very chaotic and a little messy, but they always figured things out in the end.
Donna Sheridan from Mamma Mia raised her daughter on her own while running a hotel in Greece. Sure, keeping the father's identity a secret was complicated, but Donna's main goal was always keeping her daughter safe!
Morticia and Gomez Addams from The Addams Family were glamorous and fiercely family-oriented. Honestly for a family that's "creepy and kooky," this parenting duo is pretty wholesome.
Daniel Hillard from Mrs. Doubtfire may have done a bit much to see his children, but his heart was in the right place. Did he need to dress up as a nanny? Perhaps not, but he just really loved his kids, okay?
Edna and Wilbur from Hairspray believed in Tracy from the very start — their unwavering support helped her blossom into a confident, successful dancer.
And now, the bad...Forget everything you just read, because these parents are the complete opposite. When I say most of them should be behind bars, I mean it.
Harry and Zinnia Wormwood from Matilda were neglectful, hostile, and downright cruel. Matilda was lucky she was able to escape from these two nasties.
Mr. Perry from Dead Poets Society pushed his son to his breaking point just for the sake of control and prestige. His relentless pressure had many consequences that will forever break our hearts.
Margaret White from Carrie in both the original AND the reboot deserve serious jail time. Shaming her daughter for her period? Locking her in a closet for hours at a time? Literally attempting to kill her? Absolutely unforgivable.
Kate and Peter McCallister from Home Alone are the final boss of neglectful parents. They forgot their son at home for a family vacation not once, but twice. That's no whoopsie, that's criminal negligence right there.
Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon from The Virgin Suicides controlled and isolated their daughters to devastating levels. Their choices had some, well let's just say upsetting consequences.
Mother Gothel from Tangled wasn't even Rapunzel's real mom, but she raised her like one...in the most twisted way possible. She locked her in a tower, all so she could use Rapunzel's magic hair for eternal youth. She's a classic gaslighting narcissist.
Some movie parents are absolute legends, while others just don't have what it takes 💔💔 Let us know your fav or most hated movie parents in the comments!

Alicia Silverstone Teases Upcoming 'Clueless' Sequel 30 Years After the Original

Alicia Silverstone Teases Upcoming 'Clueless' Sequel 30 Years After the Original originally appeared on Parade. Hard as it is to believe, it's been just over 30 years since audiences last saw Alicia Silverstone's charismatic Cher strutting across the big screen. For as many years as audiences have clambered to see a follow-up to 1995's cult favorite Clueless, numerous attempts to create a long-awaited sequel to the film have been met with failure or significant delays. But if some recent remarks from the 48-year-old Silverstone are any indication, it seems like Clueless' long-delayed follow-up is finally picking up steam. After almost six years of development, a Clueless TV series is currently in development at Peacock, with Silverstone herself set to reprise her role as the kind-natured Valley Girl, Cher Horowitz. Making a recent appearance on TODAY this past Thursday, the show's hosts asked what information she could tease about the upcoming series. "Not much," the Batman & Robin actress said with a laugh. Fortunately, Silverstone did provide some promising updates on Peacock's streaming series, specifically stating a key factor they're taking into consideration for the sequel is to honor the original Clueless every way they can. 'I'm really excited about it,' Silverstone said. 'I think we're going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher.' As fans of the original movie likely know, 1995's Clueless followed Silverstone's fashionable high school teenager navigating love and friendship in her California high school. Striving to use her popularity to help others, Cher attempts to play the role of matchmaker for several teachers, students and close friends, all the while confronting her own feelings for her former stepbrother (Paul Rudd). While Silverstone admitted the series is still fairly early in its development phase, she also told TODAY's hosts that the show will weave in some "fresh" components to help differentiate it from the film. "We want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it,' Silverstone said. 'I'm confident that we'll be able to do that, but we're in baby stages right now.' Alicia Silverstone Says ‘Clueless' Sequel Will ‘Honor' the Original Film

Alicia Silverstone is confident that the upcoming Clueless sequel will 'honor' the original. Speaking on Today, the actress said she's 'really excited' about the project, which she is also executive producing. 'I think we're going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher,' Silverstone said. 'So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. I'm confident that we'll be able to do that, but we're in baby stages right now.' More from Rolling Stone Happy Birthday, 'Clueless': 30 Years of Rollin' with the Homies 'Clueless' Sequel Series in Development With Alicia Silverstone Returning Alicia Silverstone Confirms She's Not Dead After Eating Mildly Toxic Plant From Stranger's Garden Earlier this year, it was reported that Silverstone would be reprising her role as Cher Horowitz in a sequel series at Peacock. No plot details were revealed about the series in the reporting, but Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage — the creative team behind Gossip Girl and The OC — are set to write the show with Jordan Weiss, who's behind Freakier Friday. All three of them will executive produce the series under Fake Empire, with Silverstone also joining as an exec producer, alongside Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original film, and Robert Lawrence, who produced it. The original Clueless was released in 1995 and was loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel, Emma. Following the film's success, a television spin-off premiered the following year and ran for three seasons with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher Horowitz in Silverstone's place. The actress spoke to Vogue about her iconic character in 2020, noting that 'I think people identify with Cher's heart and her willingness to change and grow because of how silly she was. She was trying hard to evolve because of her sweet Josh.' She added, 'I don't know how to explain why or what made Clueless what it was, but I know it happened and I know that people continue to love it. And it never gets old, so that's the good news.' Silverstone last reprised her role as Cher in a 2023 Super Bowl ad for Rakuten. She is currently starring in Irish Blood, a crime series that debuts on Aug. 11. Michelle Gomez responds to backlash over 'Harry Potter' casting: 'I understand why this is painful'

"I now understand more clearly how deeply complicated and hurtful this association can feel," the Scottish actor adds. The news of another Harry Potter project has earned ire on social media. Michelle Gomez, who was recently announced as a cast member of Pottermore Publishing and Audible's upcoming audio series of J.K. Rowling's original seven books, is responding to the public backlash the cast has received for accepting their new roles amid ongoing controversy surrounding Rowling's continued anti-trans rhetoric. On Wednesday, Gomez posted a message to her Instagram Stories directed to "my LGBTQ+ fans, and especially the trans community." "I want to speak directly to the concerns that have been raised about my involvement in this project," she wrote. "I hear you, and I understand why this is painful for many. I want to be clear that I stand with trans people, and I support trans rights — fully and without hesitation. She continued, "When I accepted this role, I did so as someone who has always loved the stories and what they meant to so many — especially those who found comfort and identity in that world. I now understand more clearly how deeply complicated and hurtful this association can feel, and I take that seriously." Gomez concluded her message saying, "Being an ally means listening even when it's uncomfortable and taking accountability where it's needed. I'm committed to doing both." The Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions was announced on Tuesday. The cast includes the Doctor Who alum voicing Professor McGonagall, along with House alum Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Succession alum Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, Sound of Metal star Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape, and The Good Wife alum Cush Jumbo as the narrator. Meanwhile, two groups of young actors will portray the main trio of wizards across the seven audiobooks: Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively, in the first three, while Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis will take over the roles of older Harry, Ron, and Hermione respectively beginning in the fourth through to the seventh and final audiobook. The audiobooks feature over 200 actors; additional cast members will be announced at a later date. The first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, debuts on Nov. 4, with the following books releasing monthly. If Stanton's name sounds familiar, that's because she will also play Hermione in the upcoming HBO TV series. Stanton will be seen onscreen alongside Dominic McLaughlin as Harry and Alastair Stout as Ron, as well as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore. The stars of the TV series have similarly received backlash for their involvement in the expansion of Rowling's franchise because of the author's controversial politics. Some have responded with indifference; in April, Lithgow told U.K.'s Sunday Times that Rowling was not the factor holding him back from joining the production. "It was a big decision because it's probably the last major role I'll play," the actor, 79, shared. "It's an eight-year commitment, so I was just thinking about mortality and that this is a very good winding-down role." But following the announcement, he received a text from "a very good friend who is the mother of a trans child," linking him to a Book Riot op-ed entitled, An Open Letter to John Lithgow: Please Walk Away from Harry Potter. The actor said that he has been surprised by the rage that Rowling's name and involvement evokes. "I thought, 'Why is this a factor at all?' I wonder how J.K. Rowling has absorbed it. I suppose at a certain point I'll meet her, and I'm curious to talk to her," he said. As for whether the criticism has soured the role for him, Lithgow replied, "Oh, heavens no." Others, such as Nick Frost, who will play gentle giant and Hogwarts gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid, have spoken out to establish their opposing views. In a June interview with The Observer, the Shaun of the Dead star declared, "She's allowed her opinion and I'm allowed mine, they just don't align in any way, shape or form." When asked if he fears the debate over Rowling could overshadow the series, Frost responded, "I don't know... But maybe it shouldn't blow over? We shouldn't just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves."In the years since Rowling began espousing anti-trans rhetoric, several Harry Potter stars — including franchise leads Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson — have spoken out against her, in support of the trans community. Meanwhile, HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys has claimed that the Harry Potter TV show hasn't "felt any impact" from Rowling's anti-transgender views, insisting, "It hasn't affected the casting or hiring of writers or production staff or anything."
