On May 20 it was reported by Newsweek that former MLB outfielder Jason Conti had passed away following a severe brain injury. This report referenced an Instagram post from Kevin Kramer, a teammate of Conti at the University of Pittsburgh where the two played college baseball.

"Today I share the worst news imaginable - my friend, my Pitt teammate and @mlb @dbacks World Series champion Jason Conti suffered a severe brain injury and is on life support," Kramer wrote. "Unfortunately, he is not going to survive past the weekend. I'm devastated - as a team we are devastated. Rest in peace my friend."
Kramer continued, writing, "@pearljam is playing in your hometown of Pittsburgh tomorrow night for you on your last night. Lots of kids grow up dreaming of becoming a @mlb player. Jason lived that dream. My thoughts are with the entire Conti family."
On Monday, the Arizona Diamondbacks posted a message on X in response to Conti's passing.

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of former outfielder Jason Conti," the team wrote. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Jason's family and friends at this time."
Conti played parts of five seasons in Major League Baseball, spending two of those in Arizona. He appeared in five games during the 2001 season that ended in a World Series championship for the Diamondbacks.
His career also included stops with the Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers. A left-handed hitting outfielder, Conti was selected by the Diamondbacks in the 32nd round of the 1996 MLB Draft. He debuted in 2000.

Jessie J, who was diagnosed with Ménière's disease in 2020, said she 'selfishly' decided to share her diagnosis with fans in part because she needed 'their love and support.' 'It breaks my heart that other people are going through so much similar, and worse. That's the bit that kills me,' she said. The 'Domino' singer did not go into detail about treatment or therapies but confirmed she would undergo surgery sometime after her appearance at the Capital Summertime Ball at London's Wembley Stadium on June 15. She indicated that at least part of her breast may be removed, remarking that she would get to 'keep my nipples.' 'It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job,' she joked. The 37-year-old British singer took to Instagram on June 3 to reveal that she was diagnosed with early breast cancer prior to dropping her new song, 'No Secrets,' which was released on April 25. Her newest single, 'Living My Best Life,' was released three weeks later on May 16. In her announcement, Jessie J made sure to emphasize the term 'early.' 'Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding onto the word 'early,'' she said in the clip, adding that she's been 'in and out of tests' for the past few weeks and will be undergoing surgery soon. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer treatments are 'more effective and are better tolerated when started early.' In an attempt to keep the announcement light, Jessie J joked that she is 'getting to keep (her) nipples' and described her upcoming surgery as a 'very dramatic way to get a boob job.' CINCINNATI — Just minutes before a scheduled MRI, the Cincinnati Reds placed starter Hunter Greene on the injured list with a right groin strain. Greene said he felt discomfort on his last two pitches in the fifth inning of Tuesday's victory over the Milwaukee Brewers and left the game. Tuesday was his third start back from the IL, which was one of the reasons the team returned him to the IL. 'Since it happened once and this is twice, we've got to figure this out. And then his lower back was starting to (affect him) and we're trying to figure out if it's related. We've got to get him healthy. It was kind of an easy decision even without seeing the MRI.' The Reds signed veteran left-hander Wade Miley to fill Greene's spot in the rotation and transferred right-hander Rhett Lowder to the 60-day injured list. Sunday, Miley exercised the opt-out of his minor-league deal and became a free agent. The 38-year-old is coming back from a hybrid ulnar collateral ligament surgery, which combines traditional Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, that he underwent last May while with the Brewers. Miley made seven minor-league starts this year, including a five-inning, two-run performance last Friday for the Triple-A Louisville Bats. Because he wouldn't be ready to pitch again until Wednesday, Miley said Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall told him he'd have a place in the team's bullpen, but wanted to let Miley explore an opportunity to start elsewhere. Miley said he talked to a couple of other teams, but was happy to return to the Reds. Miley's family is in Cincinnati for the season, so he spent the time 'being dad' and coaching baseball games and practice for his son Jeb. Miley was already expected to be in the Reds' bullpen on Wednesday, but Greene's injury created an opening for him in the rotation. Francona said Miley would be available to pitch out of the bullpen Wednesday, but if he didn't, he'd start Monday in Cleveland. In 2021, Miley threw a no-hitter for the Reds against then-Cleveland manager Francona's Guardians at Progressive Field.
