Promising Giants rookie Abdul Carter brought crashing back down to earth with brutal hits by Jets rivals

Daily Mail11 hours ago
There's been a ton of hype surrounding Giants rookie pass-rusher Abdul Carter, but the former Penn State standout was humbled on one play against the Jets on Saturday.
The No. 3 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft has impressed in camp and turned heads in his preseason debut last week when he generated two pressures against Buffalo's All-Pro offensive lineman Dion Dawkins.
But he was manhandled in one sequence against the Giants' New York rivals as he was knocked to the ground twice in quick succession.
As Carter attempted to get to the quarterback, he was shoulder-checked to the ground by tight end Stone Smartt.
He then tried to get to his feet but was quickly knocked down again by tackle Chukwuma Okorafor.
Ultimately, he ended the game with just one assisted tackle as Big Blue notched an emphatic 31-12 win.

Carter's teammates - including receiver Malik Nabers - have been effusive in their praise of the linebacker this offseason.
'That dude is a animal,' Nabers told Kay Adams on her 'Up & Adams' show.
'When you watch the explosiveness, the ability for him to turn his body, spin his body. I can't wait for people to actually see him... he's got an arsenal, and I can't wait for him to unleash it.'
Offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor, who has been going up against Carter in practice, also had some extremely kind words for the rookie.
'He has traits that you can't teach. Certain things that – everyone has talent because you're in the NFL, everyone has hard work and determination – but there's a little thing that God just blessed you with that he has that I can count on one hand that guys in the NFL have,' he said, via NorthJersey.com.
'That's not to put any unrealistic expectations on his shoulders, but the sky is the limit for that kid – even higher than the sky.'
On Saturday, the Giants moved to 2-0 in the preseason with a 31-12 win over the Jets, as rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart impressed once again.
The first-round pick completed 14 of 16 passes for 137 yards and another touchdown after tallying his first passing score against Buffalo.
The Giants will play the Patriots in their final preseason test next week before traveling to the Commanders for Week 1 on September 7.

Paul Goldschmidt shines in St. Louis return as Yankees complete sweep of Cardinals

August 17 - In his first start back in St. Louis, former Cardinals star Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI to lead the New York Yankees to an 8-4 victory Sunday afternoon. The Yankees completed a three-game sweep while winning for the fifth time in six games. Meanwhile, the Cardinals' losing streak reached five games. New York starter Will Warren allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one. Reliever Luke Weaver (3-3) earned the victory. Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas allowed three runs on four hits and five walks in five innings. He struck out one. JoJo Romero (4-5) took the loss. Third base umpire Vic Carapazza ejected Yankees catching coach Tanner Swanson in the fourth inning for protesting ball-and-strike calls. Home plate umpires Nic Lentz gave Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol the gate in the seventh inning for the same reason. Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar left after seven innings due to cramping. New York took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. walked, went to third on Goldschmidt's double, and scored on Jasson Dominguez's infield single. Ryan McMahon and Jose Caballero followed with RBI singles. The Cardinals cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning. Ivan Herrera reached on an error, Jordan Walker walked and Thomas Saggese hit a two-run double. Nootbaar hit an infield single in the fifth inning, took second on an error, and scored on Alec Burleson's game-tying single. Yohel Pozo's sixth-inning homer put the Cardinals up 4-3. The Yankees tied the game in the seventh inning when Trent Grisham walked, went to third on Aaron Judge's single and scored on Cody Bellinger's sacrifice fly. Caballero reached on a two-base error leading off the ninth inning and he moved up on a passed ball. Pinch-hitter Giancarlo Stanton walked, then Judge got an intentional pass. Bellinger's ground ball through the right side of the infield -- ruled an error -- scored two runs. Chisholm's grounder produced another run, then Goldschmidt's RBI double made it 8-4. --Field Level Media

Fans are convinced 2026 Super Bowl teams have already been decided... so has your team made it?

One of the biggest prevailing theories as to which NFL teams will make the Super Bowl has returned, with the logo color theory, meaning the colors of the official game logo will take the field. The two predominant colors in the Super Bowl LX logo are light blue and purple, reminiscent of the main colors of the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens. Of course, both of those teams are among the top teams in each conference, with that matchup not hard to imagine more than five months away from the championship clash. Both the Lions and Ravens lost in the Divisional round last year respectively to the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills. Two of the last three years, the logo has correctly identified the participants. The green and red in the 2025 Super Bowl logo design represented the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. Two seasons ago was a miss, with a purple-and-red logo, leading NFL theorists to believe it would be a Super Bowl between the Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. The NFC pick was correct, but the Chiefs dynasty was not disrupted. The Super Bowl logo from 2023 was also green and red, with the Chiefs and Eagles meeting in that game. There are also minor colors of green, yellow, and red in the Super Bowl 60 logo, which could point to a few others. Not only could the 49ers, Eagles, and Chiefs return to the NFL's championship game, but the Commanders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Rams, and Los Angeles Chargers could all make the case. The Super Bowl 60 logo has more colors in it than most championship-game designs in recent memory, giving more cover to those that believe the theory. The Lions have never appeared in a Super Bowl, while the Ravens have not played in one since they won it in 2012.

College football star arrested days before start of the season as embarrassed coach admits: 'We're thankful nobody was hurt'

Clemson tight end Ian Schieffelin was arrested over the weekend on a suspicion of driving under the influence, days before the start of the Tigers ' season. Details of Schieffelin's arrest were not immediately available, nor how long he will be removed from competition. Schieffelin is in his first season on the Tiger football team after using his final year of collegiate eligibility to try his hand at the gridiron after four seasons with Clemson's men's basketball team. Schieffelin switched teams, playing for Clemson on the hardwood as recently as this year's NCAA Tournament. Now, his new head coach, Dabo Swinney, has released a statement on the arrest. 'We are aware of Ian Schieffelin's arrest on suspicion of DUI,' Swinney said. 'Clemson Athletics has a clear policy by which we will abide, so Ian will miss some competition to start this season as a consequence.' 'We're obviously very disappointed by the situation, but we are very thankful no others were involved and no one was hurt.' Swinney first made his interest in adding Schieffelin to the football roster last fall, with a spot opening up on this year's roster. Originally, Schieffelin entered the transfer portal, to find another school for his fifth year for basketball alone. He then had a change of heart and accepted Swinney's offer. Swinney wanted Schieffelin on his roster due to a lack of depth at tight end, leaving a void for however long he will be out of action. The Tigers now only have three tight ends with a collegiate catch on their roster. It is unclear the last time Schieffelin played organized football, as he focused on basketball in high school and college. Even with Schieffelin's absence, Clemson is expected to be a national-title contender and win the Atlantic Coast Conference.
