The Emmy-winning animated series Rick and Morty is back for its eighth season. The irreverent series about a mad scientist and his grandson's adventures across the universe premiered in May on Adult Swim. New episodes are dropping weekly through July 27. The series, which stars Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer will also be airing in over 170 countries, so whether you're in the U.S. or abroad, here's everything you need to know about how to watch Rick and Morty Season 8, including where to stream it and how to watch it with the help of a VPN if you don't have cable. Season 8 of Rick and Morty premiered on Sunday, May 25. The series won't land on streaming in the U.S. until after the entire season wraps up — so if you're used to watching Rick and Morty on HBO Max, heads up that you'll have to wait until Sept. 1 to catch Season 8. Rick and Morty airs on Adult Swim. After an entire season is finished airing, it will eventually stream on HBO Max. It is however already available to stream on HBO Max in Australia... There are several ways you can watch Rick and Morty without cable. Adult Swim is available on several platforms, including DirecTV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV. Warner Bros. Discovery has also confirmed that episodes will be available to stream in the U.S. on Max, but not until Sept. 1. While the new season of Rick and Mortys won't be immediately available on Max (you'll have to wait until it arrives on Sept. 1), you can catch the past seven seasons on demand on the platform now. If you don't have cable but still want to stream Season 8 of Rick and Morty as new episodes are released, all it takes is a VPN. By using a VPN, you can access new episodes of Rick and Morty when they air in other countries and stream them on demand after they premiere. Just note that the premiere dates may vary. For example, it's scheduled to debut June 1 in the U.K. on Channel 4's My4, and May 26 on the Australian version of HBO Max (though you'll still need your US HBO subscription to watch it). Just set your VPN location to the U.K. or Australia, respectively. A VPN (virtual private network) helps protect your data, can mask your IP address and is perhaps most popular for being especially useful in the age of streaming. Whether you're looking to watch Friends on Netflix (which left the U.S. version of the streamer back in 2019) or tune in to overseas broadcasts, a VPN can help you out. Looking to try a VPN for the first time? This guide breaks down the best VPN options for every kind of user.

Paramount to slash 3.5% of US staff in latest round of cuts: ‘Hard, but necessary'

Paramount Global is laying off 3.5% of its US workforce in the latest round of cuts as the media giant struggles with steep declines in cable TV subscribers, the company said Monday. The move follows a 15% reduction last year as part of a $500 million cost cutting plan. The company ended 2024 with 18,600 employees worldwide. Paramount Global's current leadership: Chris McCarthy, George Cheeks, Shari Redstone and Brian Robbins. Getty Images for Paramount Pictures Co-Chief Executive Officers George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins wrote in a staff memo that the cuts come as the company 'navigates the continued industry-wide linear declines' while 'prioritizing' its streaming business. 'We are taking the hard, but necessary steps to further streamline our organization starting this week,' the executives said in the memo. 'These changes are necessary to address the environment we are operating in and best position Paramount for success,' they added. The execs said the layoffs will impact the US but it could also stretch to the workforce outside the US overtime. Paramount, which is home to Paramount Pictures, CBS News, MTV and Showtime, is awaiting its $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media to get the greenlight from regulators. The deal is currently in limbo as Paramount lawyers are in mediation talks to settle President Trump's $20 billion lawsuit. CBS has claimed no wrongdoing. The Federal Communications Commission — which will ultimately decide if the Skydance deal goes through — is also probing the matter. Paramount owner Shari Redstone has pressed for the company to resolve the matter with Trump.

Paramount lays off several hundred employees amid linear TV declines and 'dynamic macro-environment'

Paramount Global will lay off 3.5% of its domestic workforce, which amounts to several hundred jobs, as the media and entertainment company continues to navigate a difficult industrywide decline in linear television. The majority of the affected employees were notified Tuesday, according to a letter sent Tuesday morning to employees that was obtained by The Times. In addition to the decline in linear TV, the company also cited a "dynamic macro-economic environment" and the continued priority of streaming business investments as the backdrop to these layoffs. The affected departments were not disclosed. "We recognize how difficult this is and are very thankful for everyone's hard work and contributions," Paramount co-chief executives George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins wrote in the letter. "These changes are necessary to address the environment we are operating in and best position Paramount for success." The layoffs come just one day after Paramount said its chief financial officer, Naveen Chopra, would be resigning at the end of the month. The company said in a regulatory filing that Chopra's resignation was not the result of disagreement with the company or its board of directors. Paramount is just one of several studios across Hollywood that are downsizing. Last week, Walt Disney Co. announced layoffs for several hundred employees in the U.S. and abroad, citing the decline in linear TV. The layoffs largely affected the film and television marketing teams, television publicity, casting and development as well as corporate financial operations. The move came just three months after the company cut 200 workers, including at ABC News and Disney-owned entertainment networks. Warner Bros. Discovery also laid off employees from its cable TV channels last week, cutting several dozen positions. On Monday, the media and entertainment company said it would split into two separate firms — one entity that includes the film studio, television production, HBO and HBO Max and DC Studios and the other with cable channels such as CNN and TNT as well as its European over-the-air networks.
