CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel Head Men's Basketball Coach Ed Conroy is pleased to announce the hiring of Andrew Glover and Brady Schuck as assistant coaches. Conroy, entering the fourth season of this second stint with the Bulldogs, welcomes these two accomplished coaches to the staff, bringing a variety of experiences, local ties and a passion for student-athlete development.
'We feel fortunate that we were able to attract and hire Andrew and Brady as they will be terrific coaches to our staff,' said Conroy. 'I have known them both for a long time and watched them progress throughout their careers. Andrew and Brady are the perfect additions to help us keep building our program to the level we all want for The Citadel basketball.'
Glover, a Charleston native and Wando High School alumnus, joins The Citadel after spending the past season as the head coach at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., where he led his squad to a conference championship and Elite Eight finish while earning Conference Coach of the Year honors. Prior to Myers Park, Glover spent four years as the inaugural Head Boy's Basketball Coach at Lucy Beckham High School, leading the team to the Elite Eight in 2022-23 and Sweet Sixteen in 2023-24, earning Coach of the Year honors along the way. A captain of Wando's 2014 State Championship team, he has a proven track record of success and deep roots in the Lowcountry.
Glover's coaching journey includes experience at both the college and high school levels. He spent two seasons as an assistant coach at USC Aiken, contributing to player development and game strategy. Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach on state championship teams in 2018 and 2019 at Grey Collegiate Academy. As a player, Glover competed at USC Aiken, Spartanburg Methodist and Hargrave Military Academy.
'I'm honored and grateful for the opportunity to join The Citadel basketball program,' said Glover. 'As a Charleston native, it means the world to me to be able to represent my hometown and be a part of a program built on discipline, tradition and respect. I want to sincerely thank Coach Conroy for trusting me and welcoming me to his staff. I'm excited to get to work with our student-athletes and our staff, helping to build something special.'
Schuck, another Charleston native, brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and leadership to The Citadel. He spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Flagler College, being a part of two winning seasons with the Saints, including a 20-win campaign in 2023-24 that culminated in trip to the Peach Belt Conference Championship game. He broke into the collegiate coaching ranks after two successful seasons as the head coach at James Island Charter School, leading the Trojans to the Sweet Sixteen in 2023 and Region Championship in 2024, earning Region Coach of the Year honors in the process.
Schuck played four seasons at Furman University and was a member of the Paladins 2016-17 SoCon Championship team.
'I'm grateful and excited for the opportunity to become an assistant coach at such a prestigious institution as The Citadel,' said Schuck. 'I'm excited to work with a great group of student-athletes and learn from Coach Conroy, someone I have a profound respect for. Getting the chance to do all of this while coaching college basketball in my hometown of Charleston makes it even more special.'

Miami Springs' Fanshawe and Mater Academy's Bencomo are Dade Baseball Coaches of the Year
The list is probably a short one. Coaches who have won a state baseball championship as a head coach, assistant coach and a player. It's one that David Fanshawe joined a few weeks ago when he watched his Miami Springs team complete a dream season. The Golden Hawks went 20-3 during the regular season, rolled to six straight regional playoff wins in Class 3A and then upset both Fort Myers Bishop Verot and Santa Rosa Beach South Walton to win not only the program's first state title, but the first state championship for the school in any sport in nearly four decades. For that, Fanshawe is the Miami Herald's Class 4A-1A Dade Baseball Coach of the Year. Fanshawe, who just completed his ninth season at Springs came over from Brito Miami Private in 2016 where he won back-to-back state titles as an assistant under Pedro Guerra in 2014-15. It was also the same place he won it as a player when he was on the mound as the winning pitcher in the 2006 championship game when Brito edged Jacksonville Eagle's View 4-3. 'The sport of baseball has been awfully good to me,' Fanshawe said. 'I've had some great experiences at a couple of great programs. I guess maybe I'm one to add to that list if there is one. The nicest thing about what we just did is that I got to watch those kids get to experience what I experienced as a player in high school.' Speaking of short lists, with Fanshawe's two players, Kevin Roque and Magdiel Estevez nailing down Pitcher and Player of the Year honors, respectively, Springs completed the Herald's triple sweep with him getting Coach of the Year. 'It's an honor to be recognized but obviously if it weren't for these kids and what they accomplished, there would be no coach of the year award for me,' Fanshawe said. 'They played their hearts out for me and the coaching staff and in order to have this success, you need to have great assistants as well which I was lucky to have.' For Humberto Bencomo, Mater Academy's state title in Class 5A was the program's second, but his first, as a head coach, assistant or player. For that accomplishment, Bencomo is the Herald's 7A-5A Coach of the Year. 'I'm truly humbled and honored to be recognized like this,' Bencomo said. 'This recognition is not just about me, it's a testament to the incredible heart and dedication of my players and coaches, the unwavering support from our administrators and the constant encouragement from our parents. Without all of that, none of this happens.' The Lions, who won their first championship in 2014, overcame a 1-5 start to the season, rolled to six straight regional playoff wins and then upended Fort Myers 8-5 in the state semifinal (battling back from an early 5-0 deficit) before defeating Wesley Chapel 6-1 for the title. 'In baseball you have to be willing to do whatever it takes,' Bencomo said. 'Whether it's a clutch hit, a perfect bunt, or a diving catch. That's what makes a championship team and that's exactly what we showed this past season.'

Canandaigua, Penn Yan punch tickets to state finals
Class B Canandaigua 17, CBA-Syracuse 11 The Grey Wolves scored six in the first and six in the second on their way to a dominating state semifinal win at SUNY Cortland Wednesday afternoon. Canandaigua improves to 19-2 and advances to the Class B final Saturday at Hobart where they will face Garden City from Long Island. The first faceoff is set for 5:30pm. Class C Penn Yan 17, Ogdensburg Free Academy 10 Penn Yan finished the game on a 10-1 run to flip a second half deficit into a comfortable state semifinal victory. Freshman faceoff specialist Greyson Hathway entered the game ten faceoff wins short of the New York state record for wins in a season and easily blew by that number. The Mustangs are now 20-2 after their sixth straight win. They will play for the Class C state title Saturday at Hobart against Chenango Forks from Binghamton's Section IV. Faceoff is scheduled for 12:30pm. Class A West Genesee 16, Penfield 6 Harrison Easton got the first goal of the game for Penfield, but West Genny reeled off the next ten and held the Patriots scoreless for 25 minutes to make the second half of this state semifinal academic. The Wildcats proved convincingly why they are one win away from a perfect season. Penfield still put together an impressive turnaround from an 0-5 start with a state final four appearance and a 13-8 record. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. North using 'grit' as motivation ahead of Semi-State
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The North Huskies, one of the most dominant teams in the Tri-State this season, believe they have what it takes to wear the crown in 4-a. 'We play a lot of grit,' junior Brooks Carroll said. 'We play tough. Our pitching does a lot for us. And we scrape enough runs to win ball games.' 'Yeah, we're a gritty ballclub,' head coach Jeremy Jones said. 'You know we're not pretty. You know we but we do a lot of little things. Correct. Whether it's bunting or slashing, hit and run, that type of stuff.' This tight knit group has the makings of a state championship team. After years of fighting to get out of the sectional just to come up short to Castle North is bound for the semi-state bringing with it loads of excitement. 'Obviously there's pressure, but I feel like with us it's just we're kind of going in there with house money,' Carroll said. 'You know, being in a spot where we haven't been before, it's, you know, screw it. Why not just go play with our head on fire and play hard and maybe scratch out a couple of wins, get us a gas field.' All year long the Huskies have sparked a new formula for winning dominant pitching. When scoring four or more runs this season north is a remarkable 20-0. But what matters the most is a key factor that doesn't pop up on the stat sheet. 'Their heart you know, and their ability to come together and be around each other and just find a way with two outs to get a hit,' said Jones. 'We had a situation on Saturday Braden Perry comes in second or third no outs, two one ball game, it was strike out, strike out flyball. And you know he came in to do a job, and thats been the story this season for us. We asl guys to perform at their best and hopefully well have more of the same on Saturday.'
