Wins all round for Taunton Deane
The theme of the Saturday evening captains' reports was about run scorers.
The 5th XI scored a very good win with Jack Monsey scoring his 122 in just 89 balls as, with Ashton Adams, Freddie Jarrett and Harry Matthews all getting into the 40s, Wembdon were asked to chase an improbable 291.The 4ths had a much tighter win over Stoke St Gregory with Shivam Shirke once again top scoring with 66.
At the Convent Field the Deane Seconds had two centurions as they posted a massive 326-4. Bhuvanesh Jayaraman (122) scored his second hundred in two weeks while Josh Cobb rattled along to score his 105 from just 69 balls.
Jack Blackwell's four wickets for just 8 runs were key to Wedmore achieving a final total of just 100.

The fragile Deane First XI top order batting was on display again at the Parks against a predictably strong Bridgwater side led by the evergreen Chris Skidmore.
At 30 for five, it looked like another early finish. Deane supporters had their spirits lifted by a succession of useful partnerships – 84 for the 6th wicket, 63 for the 7th and 73 for the 8th. Ed Mellor, Jim Brehaut and Sunil Lachit all made twenties in support of the one Deane player who made batting look easy.
Sam Burgess was out with the score on 250 having scored his first league hundred and counting 26 boundaries in his total of 136. The Deane final score of 290 looked a good but not unachievable target.
Sam's innings was, as expected, the difference between the teams and, despite a good start and a late flurry from Seth Locke (56), Bridgwater fell 10 runs short. Just for good measure, Sam also bagged 3 wickets.
It was a good day for Sam and, indeed, for all the Deane teams.
Next Saturday Deane Fist XI welcome old rivals Wellington as we continue to chase that one precious promotion place. As a rehearsal, we also face Wellington on Thursday in the County Cup.

This preseason Howell is 12 for 18 for 118 yards and 1 mindnumbing INT. Brett Rypien Rypien has spent some time with the Broncos in the Rams. He started 4 games with a 2-2 record. This preseason he is 7 for 11 with 83 yards, playing the 2nd quarter of the New England game. He was better than Howell, but that was a low bar. KOC appreciated the way he ran the offense. Rypien might be a good selection as the emergency QB. Max Brosmer The undrafted rookie out of The University of Minnesota is an immediate fan favorite. He's only increased that love with his play. He's 20 for 35 for 203 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Coaches are raving about Brosmer's work ethic and his anticipation. He's in serious contention for the QB2 spot with Howell playing poorly in Game 2. The door is open for Brosmer to make an impact.

With kickoff fast approaching, we're looking at seven players on the roster bubble to watch on Saturday. The Eagles and Browns are set for their third meeting of the week, this time a more formal preseason game with starters for both teams sitting out. Philadelphia has one of the best rosters in the NFL, and not many holes for a bubble player to exploit. Saturday afternoon offers another chance for players on the roster bubble and under-the-radar performers to carve out a role on a Super Bowl-contending team with very few holes or available opportunities at key positions. With kickoff fast approaching, we're looking at seven players on the roster bubble to watch on Saturday. OL Darian Kinnard Kinnard has played tackle and guard, but played exclusively on the right side of the line until the Dickerson injury. A versatile player to watch, Kinnard can cement a roster spot on Saturday. DT Jacob Sykes Sykes (6-3, 282) offers a unique ability as a pass rusher, and Saturday offers a chance to lock down a practice squad spot. OLB Azeez Ojulari The veteran edge rusher had a quiet training camp and will look to keep pace with Josh Uche and ahead of Ogbo Okoronkwo. OLB Ogbo Okoronkwo The 30-year-old pass rusher is the oldest edge rusher on the Eagles roster and will look to keep his name in the competition. DB Andre Sam Sam spent the season on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. Sam (5-11, 191 pounds) jumped from FCS after starting his career in 2017 at McNeese State, where he was selected First Team All-Southland Conference twice. Sam transferred to Marshall for the 2022 season before spending his final season at LSU. Overall, he played 58 games in college, registering 144 tackles, ten pass defenses, and nine interceptions. Sam has spent the past two off-seasons training with C.J. Gardner-Johnson and could prepare to carve out a key role in year three. RB ShunDerrick Powell The ability to explode for extra yards or play with burst is essential in the NFL, and undrafted rookie running back ShunDerrick Powell has made enough plays through Week 1 of Eagles training camp to leave Saquon Barkley impressed. Powell had a record-setting collegiate career at North Alabama and Central Arkansas, and we'll look to state his case. WR Elijah Cooks Through the first few weeks of training camp practices, Cooks had been the fourth-best wideout and took advantage of players losing reps due to injury. Cooks suffered an injury in the Bengals' win and needs a strong performance.

Dan Quinn singles out these two Commanders' offensive linemen
An offensive line has to work together so much. There is timing, knowledge, and communication that are all needed. Washington Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi has not yet been able to work back with the first-team unit, as he recovers from a torn ACL in the playoff win at Detroit in January. But also, left guard Brandon Coleman has been missing time. The second-year player out of TCU started most of 2024 at left tackle, and this year is being asked to transition inside to left guard. Last season, during training camp, he injured a pectoral muscle that set him back a couple of weeks. Later, during the regular season, Coleman suffered a nagging injury to his knee that slowed him some, but he was able to continue in the starting lineup. Two weeks ago, during a Saturday practice, Coleman limped off the field with an apparent foot injury. He has missed time, yet head coach Dan Quinn has said he does not believe Coleman's injury is severe. Quinn was asked if he was concerned Coleman had missed valuable reps with Laremy Tunsil, the new left tackle on the Commanders' line. "Yes, you always want that to happen (reps together as a unit) 100 percent, no doubt about it," Quinn said. "It was nice to see him participating today in our early morning walk-through. So, to see him getting closer, I'm pleased about that because no one wants anyone to miss. I know it happens, and I try to think about the things I can control and not worry about the things I can't control. We just try to do the best we can in that space." Quinn then offered that Nick Allegretti, filling in for Cosmi at right guard, has a great attitude and is thus a leader on the offensive line and also on the team. Quinn assured the press that Allegretti has always been that way, displaying a willingness to move and play wherever he is needed on the line to help the team.
