Driffield teen Chloe Barber took her own life, coroner concludes
Following the inquest into Miss Barber's death, Prof Marks described the family's experience as "very harrowing".He said that he believed "nationwide there is not a clear path for transition from Children and Mental Health Services (CAHMS) and adult psychiatric services".Miss Barber had first attempted to self-harm in 2017 when she was in Year 9 and experienced bullying at school, the inquest heard.Following this incident, she had contact with CAMHS. A further attempt at self harm was made in 2018.Miss Barber went on to have several stays in psychiatric units, including in Hull, before being transferred to Cygnet Hospital in Sheffield in 2021 after being sectioned under the Mental Health Act.She came home after she managed to successfully appeal detention via a mental health tribunal and no major incidents initially occurred, the inquest heard.On 3 November 2021, Miss Barber was found unconscious at her home.A family member tried to resuscitate her and called 999 but Miss Barber was declared dead by paramedics a short time later.
'Did have capacity'
Prof Marks said Miss Barber had an "evolvingly unstable personality disorder" which was characterised by "difficulties on how an individual feels about themselves and is associated with impulsive behaviour".He added that Miss Barber, on the balance of probabilities, "did have capacity in refusing to engage with adult psychiatric services".Concerns were raised about Miss Barber's aftercare, care programme approach, capacity assessment and risk management processes around vulnerable adults.However, Prof Marks said while "many matters were true or partially true, no causation flows from them"."The unpredictably of impulsive behaviour with evolving emotional personality disorder coupled with services offered makes it probable there was no realistic opportunity to prevent her death," he concluded.
After the hearing, Chloe's family said in a statement issued through Hudgell Solicitors: "It's difficult to put into words the kind of person Chloe was. She was amazing, bright, brilliant, beautiful, caring and stubborn. A truly wonderful young lady. "She loved all kinds of music and was always wearing headphones. She was always dancing around wherever she was to the song Pocketful of Sunshine."She was a gifted artist and loved drawing, and we always proudly displayed her artwork on the walls of our family home. She loved to shop, spending all her money in Primark and loved animals, especially her pets and her dog, Chester."Need help? Dorset NHS staff march against subsidiary jobs transfer
About 100 healthcare workers have marched in protest against plans by Dorset NHS trusts to move them into a private trusts want to create a subsidiary company for more than 1,700 members of staff, including cleaners, porters and security staff, Unison of those at the march in Dorchester said the plans made them feel like "second class citizens" and voiced concern about what it would mean for their NHS terms and conditions, including a joint statement, Dorset County Hospital and University Hospital Dorset NHS foundation trusts said staff working in estates, facilities and procurement were "highly valued" and would retain their NHS terms and conditions. Jessica Best, a housekeeper at Dorset County Hospital, said the move would be bad for staff at a time when morale was already "very low"."We're very proud to work for the NHS," she said, adding: "It feels like that's being taken away."Frank Goodwin, a security officer at the hospital, agreed."It's making me feel like we're second class citizens," said the 39-year-old."You'd never take the nurses or the doctors out and try to fund them separately, and find a way to make them not part of the NHS."I'm part of the NHS because I care, I want to work in a sector where I'm bringing something to society. I don't want to be just some contractor."Ms Best said there were also fears over what it would mean for their contracts. "We're very concerned about our terms and conditions," said the 47-year-old. Lynne Hubbard, from Unison Dorset Health, said it amounted to "back door privatisation"."We consider that in the NHS we're one team, and that cleaners are just as important as doctors," she said. "We should all be on the same terms and conditions."Unison said it was conducting a ballot for strike action among its spokesperson for the trust said any subsidiary company would be "100% owned by Dorset County Hospital, Dorset HealthCare and University Hospitals Dorset"."Very importantly colleagues would retain their NHS terms and conditions and their NHS pension," they added. Refurb starts at Mulcaster House on Overdale hospital site
Refurbishment work at a building which forms part of the new hospital site in Jersey has government said construction work at Mulcaster House had begun as part of the scheme to build the £710m Overdale Acute Hospital in St said, once the renovation was completed, the building would initially serve as a site office during the construction of Overdale before becoming the Health and Care Jersey Facilities Management team's government added that access to Mulcaster House would be restricted during the refurbishment work but overflow parking facilities for the neighbouring crematorium would remain in place on the road leading up to the building.

How attacks on Sandie Peggie's family are taking their toll
The public gallery has become populated by a familiar roll-call of faces. Every day at the Sandie Peggie tribunal, the seating area of the small room in the Dundee tribunal hearing centre is full of committed attendees. Those who are not early or quick enough are relegated to an overflow room to watch proceedings on the small screen. One face has become more recognisable than most — certainly more than she ever expected to be. Nicole Peggie, Sandie's daughter, has been forced by circumstance to defend her mother in an employment tribunal that the nurse brought against her employer NHS Fife and the transgender doctor Beth Upton. The case stems from an incident on Christmas Eve 2023, when Peggie objected to sharing a women's changing room at Victoria Hospital with Upton. This led to a heated exchange, after which Upton reported Peggie to senior management. As a result, Peggie was suspended for alleged gross misconduct.
